Raven 54 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I have been playing Skyrim since release and I just noticed this... The hangars for the security bar are on the wrong side of the doors, right where any attackers can remove the bar that is suppose to help keep the doors shut! Why would Bethesda hang the Gates on Helgen backwards?! Even with all the updates and jacking around with the game they still have not fixed it. Spoiler 1
Gukahn Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 You both are getting it wrong. The gate is not to keep people out. It's to keep them in when the slaughter begins 🤔 5
Monoman1 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 It's probably more that the gates would clip through the floor if placed the other way around... Compromise etc. 2
KoolHndLuke Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Beth likes the idea of being penetrated and easy access? Whatever, they sure like fucking us. 1
MadMansGun Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 does not matter, the gate is so high off the ground you can just crouch under it. 5
Raven 54 Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) I just thought that with the gates hung the right way, to swing in, the safety bar would be inside as it should. With all the overpaid programmers they have why/how could they miss this. Edited October 4, 2024 by Raven 54 1
Programmers are not architects or civil engineers - how else would you come up with the idea of putting a gate with "swinging wings" on such a sloping street... O.M.G. Apart from that - no horse-drawn cart can get up this steep street either - so please don't ask about realism in this fantasy game. Helgen is the only town with a wall AND town gates anyway - where "the interior" is not a separate entity... the whole concept of this place seems strange in relation to the other "towns" and "settlements". My wife always says -> "What do you expect - it's Skyrim and who did it? ... Exactly!" If you are looking for a realistic medieval city (in Europe) ... then I recommend another computer game: "kingdom come deliverance" The second part is coming out soon and you can see in the trailers what such a city looked like. The city of "Kuttenberg" in the game still exists today - it is in the "Czech Republic" and is called "Kutná Hora" in the local language

We all have our own things that bother us and drive us round the bend....If I had hung them backwards, I would have removed the hangars so it would not have been noticeable, that's all.

It's called "MVP": Minimum viable product. I'm not looking in CK, so my guess is Beth probs didn't bother to create a version that swings the other way (clips inside, swing out), or designed terrain before adding furniture. Not compromise for anything but cost-effectiveness. Removing the "hangers" would necessitate a whole other model only to be used once - pretty wasteful and inefficient. You're likely to see this effect more often now that you've spotted the issue with these doors. Edited October 4, 2024 by Nuascura 2

Imagine beign a designer in Bethesda's office, suffering constipation, and Todd is on the other side looking at you and discussing ideas. "Can you make me a gate for that starting town that gets burned down by a dragon? "Uh... yeah... mhh.. sure. Something particular you have... yhh... in mind?" "I might have an idea. See that door?" "Yeah..." "It'll just work."
Raven 54 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 See, I think you guys are missing the hilarity of the fact that overpaid programmers didn't notice or care that the Gates were backwards and released Todd's Baby with a turd in it's Diaper!
Omnishade Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Bandits got bored and wanted to mess with adventurers.
