kpinn Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) Never played a FO game, saw that it was on sale on steam for 16 bucks. Saw that some of the other FO games didn't seem to have aged too well in terms of mechanics and was wondering if FO4 was worth playing almost 9 years post release. https://vlc.onl/ Edited August 19, 2024 by kpinn

Some of which are on this website. My advice would be to get the GOG version oer the steam version as you can get the GOG game as previous game verion. we recenly had an update that according to many added fanfic content that broke the balance. My recommendation is to run the .163 game version. or if you insist on the latest at least get these 2 mods: to delay and or delete the latest Creation Club addtions: This way the game interface will not spam you with all these extra quests right at agme beginning that make little or no sense, for a character that is starting out. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/82311 https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/82345 1

Any Bethesda game new or old is worth buying regardless of when. Install mods and you might just find yourself hooked.
Grey Cloud Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Why not just watch some YT LPs to see if it is the kind of game you may like?

Ueli_123 Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) So, is it useable with mods? I only want to give Micky Mouse (Bathesda) any more money if the great mods posted here work... THX you modders for all your work, you keep old games alive in a far more modern way than the up to date games out there. I recently read a lot of Steam comments, witch say it doesn't work anymore with mods. Edited August 11, 2024 by Ueli_123
Simpossible_xx Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) It really depends on your preferences, but if you enjoy survival games that involve collecting, building, customizing, and exploring expansive worlds for countless hours, then I definitely recommend buying it. If you're not in a hurry, consider waiting for an Autumn Sale to buy a GOTY edition and save a few extra bucks. I personally enjoyed the base game a lot, but it pales in comparison to the modded game. There are just so many incredible immersive mods that can make you feel like you're actually living in the Wasteland. And don't even get me started on the adult mods, they are just like a cherry on the top! Mmm... cherry... Edited August 11, 2024 by Simpossible_xx

I recently read a lot of Steam comments, witch say it doesn't work anymore with mods. You can still use mods, those comments were about the next gen patch, dedicated to the Fallout TV series, which broke most of the script mods. Those mods need to be updated to work again. Some have been updated, but others haven't yet. 1
Einige wurden aktualisiert, andere jedoch noch nicht. many mods will never be updated - because they have been abandoned by their authors ... but are in a usable state for us mod users -> for the "old" Fallout 4 version! 1

It is the new updated version that has issues with many mods. The .163 version which I, and nearly everyone lese on here, am on and have bloked steam updates on, works fine with almost unlimited mods. BUT you cna downgrade to .163 version even afetr Stema install, there are even utilities for that on Nexus. Ooor, just go with GOG game where you can get a fresh .163 install off the website if you use GOG galaxy installer , you get to pick your version. Most of the salacious mods here on Loverslab do not currently work with the new version, but in the future they might. 1
Echo389 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 It's a game that works with a bit of effort, much like any bethesda game. The real appeal yo FO4 is it's a modding playground, since you're here asking about it you can see the wonderful debauchery that's quickly available, Nexus is generally more public facing acceptable levels of mods. First I'd recommend just general bug fixing mods and patches for a full vanilla playthrough and then mod to your heart's content.
Swiftstep Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 It's Skyrim with lasers. You like Skyrim? You like lasers? You like Fallout. Plus, Fallout has a sense of humor. And that 50s flair. And gore. Yeah, that sums it up.
South8028 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 This is a game with relatively good graphics and a bs connect point construction system that allows you to build large interiors in the game. Nextgen has greatly ruined the modding atmosphere, so it is recommended to find 1.10.163. Technically... With a good video card, the renderer can process ~300 million polygons per scene. Considering that ce has a mechanic that combines duplicate meshes, the scene weight can reach 1 billion polygons within uGridsToLoad. This is very cool for a 9 year old game.
steveklaasen Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 yes/no. Fallout games are amazing. But I like them because of the post apocalyptic atmosphere. If you don't like that. You won't like Fallout. The game mechanic is very good. I like VATS. It's a nice middle ground between "stupid" FPS and RPGs. So if you are not a huge fan of high blood pressure shooting everything down...the game is good. You can also completely ignore VATS. The graphics are ooold today. Probably that's why they made the next gen update. But...one of the biggest strength of Fallout is modding. You double or tripple the gametime and increase the fun. The game itself is already quite good. But the graphics...well. You have to know if you want to go that way. If you have an older PC and newest graphics are not playable for you, you wouldn't really notice and have tons of fun. But you need something else. You need to like solving problems. From time to time you might head into annoying game bugs. Easiest way is fixing it yourself with an console command. That's good and bad. Good as you can solve a lot of problems yourself. Bad as there sometimes can be problems. Usually they are caused by the engine and loading an older save is also solving it. But...open world and older save when it comes to a wrong saved quest can mean hours of gameplay are lost. So...it's good you can solve things yourself sometimes.
