I did an experiment on this site

Hello,

about a week ago I did an experiment here.

I was upset the amount of downloads of mods and games for non-Sim4 games is super-low compared to the tons of download and interest for every Sim4 whatever character.

I posted months ago here that I think this site is just a dump for Sims characters, and I still think it is true.

So, what the experiment was?

I created a fake mod for sims. A Sim character.

But the mod was a complete fake.

The image is done by grabbing a sim character image (posted 5 years ago, I tried to be sure was not recent) and slightly manipulated it (changed the background color and added cartoon effects just to make it difficult to find on internet.)

The mod itself was just look like a sim mod. I downloaded a mod from a guy here, checked what are the files and folders inside, and created a fake 7zip archive of just random data that was showing (when opened) a very similar files and folders structure.

It was just random data, so impossible to unzip. Was only possible to see the file names inside, everything else was not a real zip/7zip file.

So, what happened?

I got 33 downloads in 4 days. That are about 10 times the downloads I do usually with my mods.

And, fun fact, the mod was liked by 6 people (for no reasons, was not an usable mod.)

And some people also congratulated for it.

A couple of people (good persons) posted that the mod was not working. I personally "likes" their answers (but I did not answered in the support thread just to continue the experiment.)

Now I deleted the mod.

And I will find another adult gaming site to continue posting my items.

Here are some screenshots of my experiment:

image.png.97ce74022db313ef25a32c8d75229f5e.png

Not bad as first sim? Was not even working...

For sure I will not ask for help from you.

These 2 guys were the only 2 good guys I saw in the experiment, thanks @EdfNightmare_TMZN0V4 and @shorty943.

Good bye.

"Good guys"? You must not do a lot of modding or you'd know that folks sometimes download a TON of mods at one time and probably don't have the time to go through them all to check and install them. I've done this on numerous occasions. Just being nice to the new MA to encourage them to keep uploading content probably. That and there's no reminder on this site to go back and give mods downloaded a like so people do it in 'good faith' so they don't forget.

That being said, the site could definitely use more mod variety for different games with their own sections. But which games? It's a question I see asked a lot. But never really addressed unfortunately.

Some good candidates I think are;

GTA 5 (seeing an uptick in mods for this old title due to some fairly recent developments and it's still a somewhat popular game).

TW3 (Upgraded editor and probably won't be patched ever again due to CDPR moving to the Unreal engine from now on).

BG3 (Great looking game with lots of assets to use. But needs time to 'unlock' potential).

You made a post in a popular section of the site and got more traffic than the posts you made in a generic part of the site that gets very little traffic. And you're discovering that the more popular, singular-focused category gets more downloads than the unfocused generic category and calling that "an experiment?" This shouldn't be news. That's just common sense.

Basically, shops on main street get more foot traffic than unnamed shops in the side street alley.

High-traffic'd categories of the site get more people looking through it; that's just how it works and is always going to work everywhere. People just don't browse general categories; they come here with a goal for a specific game in mind. So yeah, people coming to the site for Sims 4 content are more likely to see and try stuff posted in the Sims 4 section. Going to a generic category to "discover" some new game isn't going to cross their mind unless they are directed towards it.

Look, I'm sorry your game hasn't taken off as much as you'd like, I really am. I'd love nothing more than for LoversLab to become a base for adult indie game developers to post their content. But, to be frank, you've done nothing to promote or direct people towards it. You don't even link to it in your signature; you don't post elsewhere on the site for people to talk about it or notice your signature with a link to it. You just don't advertise it in any way and are seemingly just expecting people to magically find your download. You just post it in a generic section that people don't look at without being directed towards it.

Hell, you don't even direct people to your game in this thread. You don't mention what your "other items" are or where to find them. I only know about it because I went the extra step of browsing your previous posts to see what you're talking about. And that's just it; I had to go an extra step to find out. 99% of users are never going to take an extra step; they have to be directed.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck, whether you stay on LoversLab or go elsewhere.

So first off, never thought it was fake (Guess I got played here lol :P)
Second: I can recommend two sites to post your game.
If you want it to be free, post it in F95Zone
If you want to get money from it, I suggest itch.(io)

Thanks for the advice.

F95 has a lot of games and mods with underage contents (fucking young babies, often depicted as just a few years old.) this is completely against my willing to use the site.

Itch.io has problems with adult contents on the games.

I will just stop developing what I was developing. At the end it interests nobody.

Man, I want to say don’t stop. We need more creative projects and games. However ; all you’ve done is complain and whine as Ashal called you out on. At the end of the day, you’ve done nothing but complain. Best wishes on your future endeavors.

Coming on here admitting to using assets you did not create while also admitting to posting fake content should get you banned, not congratulated. I hope the scam you pulled gets more views , nobody should trust any of your content from here forward.

So basically they are admitting to piracy of assets and reposting pirated assets, you "wish them Luck"?! WTF

Am I the only one suprised by the endorsement ratio here?

33 downloads = 6 endorsements, approx 20% endorsement ratio for an non usable mod.

How the $%##$ is that even possible?

The top hotfile at nexus skyrim SE now has a endorsement rate of 5%.

They didn't pirate any assets; they just copied file/folder names. No actual assets were in their "download."

And no, I don't approve of them posting a fake download. We would've removed it if it was made known to us in time, but it's gone now and was ultimately harmless. So yeah, I will wish them luck, as I would for most people trying to develop something on their own.

Dude.

Just stop worrying about downloads and popularity. Just continue doing what you actually enjoy, and likeminded people will follow. I promise. ❤️

Key difference is endorsement ratio to downloads over time. That's about average.

If you know how to search it, itch.io has adult categories

I am aware, but it does not allow explicit sexual scenes (like porn videos) and my game just used pieces of porn videos.

In all cases I decided to stop the development of this game.

What are you trying to say? That people should not whore for attention on social media and have more common sense?

What a revolutionary concept in this day and age!

I know I'm just jumping on a bandwagon at this point, but my recent mod has over 1,000 downloads and it's only been a couple of weeks since I posted it. However, I'm aware that these are total downloads, not unique downloads, and I've released updates within this timeframe causing people to download again and make the total go up. So let's be very conservative and say that everyone just re-downloaded when I updated. That's still over 250 unique downloads. This is also with effectively no 'advertising'.

People will find your stuff, just give it an appropriate amount of time. Plus, don't make things with the intent of the thing you're making being popular. You'll always 'lose'. Make things with the intent of being something of quality and/or value, and try to be satisfied knowing you did a good job regardless of how popular it gets. It's much less stressful that way.

I agree the world needs more 'common sense' and 'Normal Men'.

Spoiler

Anyone who doesn't get the reference of 'Normal Men', but agrees with that statement, look up SideScrollers on Rumble or YT. Sorry for the promotion, but 'common sense' needs to make triumphant comeback. And I'm just someone enjoys of their work.

A crass way of saying it, but yeah. Literally that!

Man if your first priority with posting mods is how many views and downloads you get you've already lost the sauce at that point. People primarily make mods because that's what they want to see in their games, and post them if someone else also happens to want the same thing but don't have the technical knowhow to do it themselves. Sexlab is one of the most downloaded mods for Skyrim because the demand for adding sex in Skyrim is super high. If you're making mods that people want then they'll reach you one way or another, assuming you haven't posted them in a place that is hard to find. Low downloads isn't a sign of failure it just means your content is more niche or again, you posted them in a place that is hard to find.

You only set yourself up for frustration if you lead with popularity in mind. If you wanna get tons of downloads and popularity then make better content. There's simply no other way of putting it. Also i've noticed multiple times that you talk about a game you've been developing, well where's the link then? Where's your Patreon? Where's your development blog? Where's your Twitter or Discord? Where are the game screenshots? Where even is the game ffs? How can you possibly hope to get downloads on your game if you never promote it anywhere? I mean this is basic stuff man come on. The time you spent making that giant post could've been spent promoting your stuff but ig you have a different strategy in mind, well good luck with that lol.

Interesting. So the traffic comes from bots.

This is just another evidence for the dead internet theory.

Thank you for the experiment.

Not yet. Give it another 20-25 years when the first generation of broadband users start to die out en masse. Then it'll be full of dead people.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but this 'experiment' isn't exactly empirical evidence.

From what I've been able to tell over the last 8 years of being on LL, this is one of the least botted sites I've ever seen. Then again, my experience is limited to the Skyrim section and I don't exactly look at the topic list very often, but I honestly can't remember the last time I encountered a definitive bot on this website. Perhaps the Sims section has it worse, but I can't imagine it's that big of a problem or the topic would be more widely discussed.

I'm certainly not trying to claim they don't come here, because I know they do. It's just rare enough to not notice for quite a while, and the mod team is pretty good about banning the bots quickly.

I know you are kidding, but right now, 65% of internet traffic is done entirely by bots.

And if you have a website, it only appears in search engines if you pay for "exposure".

All the while developers have been trapped in a ivory tower called Github, which is owned by Microsoft.

So the internet became like television was in the past.

Common sense?

It was destroyed at the end of the 19th century with the advent of quantum physics as a serious instrument of the human mind!
