Comprehensive and Simple Guide: How to get "Sex" working in Skyrim LE (with links and recommended mods)

One of my posts in another topic was receiving quite a lot of attention, so I figured I'd write my own guide on how I get SexLab running, with animations and ready to fuck.

I don't personally use a mod manager, so I installed things manually. Here is a guide on how to do this. HOWEVER, mod managers can make things easier for the layman. There's Nexus Mod Manager, Mod Organizer 2, and Vortex. I have zero experience with mod managers except the first MO.

 

DO NOT FUCKING USE WINRAR I SWEAR TO SATAN. USE 7ZIP. IT'S FREE AND BETTER IN EVERY WAY.

 

If you're new to modding in general, some mods may require that you edit your Skyrim INI files. To make your entire life easier, enable file extension visibility. Here's how to do this in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

 

1. As a base requirement, you need SKSE.

    1a. As other requirements, I recommend NiOverride, RCAE, JContainers, and Crash Fixes. Pretty sure they are required by other mods here anyways.

    1b. I also strongly recommend RaceMenu.

    1c. Since we're doing SKSE, you might as well install Bug Fixes, FISS, FRD, and Havok Fix.

 

2. You need SkyUI.

    2a. SkyUI on its own is pretty blah, so I recommend Dear Diary. It's an amazing mod that's managed to change the entire feel of the game through the interface.

 

3. You need XP32MSE.

    3a. There are other skeleton mods that may have more features, but XP32MSE has support for casting magic from your nipples which is kinda hot.

 

4. You also need FNIS. SexLab was not updated to use DAR or Nemisis.

    4a. FNIS is compatible with custom animation frameworks such as DAR and Nemisis. 

 

5. Install SOS. It's not a hard requirement but it has features you will want.

    5a. There are addons for SOS that may be hard to find since they're kinda buried. If you don't want humanoid dicks on beast races, Leito made some nice ones.

    5b. There's also Hoodie Schlongs by Bad Dog, someone I consider a friend.
 

6. You will need either UNP or CBBE.

    6a. I personally prefer CBBE mainly for Clams of Skyrim, an insanely detailed and physics enabled body.
    6b. For physics, install HDT Physics.

 

7. Now we have all the base requirements, go ahead and install SexLab and the script hotfix.
    7a. SexLab comes with animations, but as of now, your install has no method of using them.

    7b. While we are at it, go ahead and install SexLab Animation Loader. If you want more animations than SexLab can handle by default, you're going to need it.

 

8. You need mods to fuck! I have two recommendations:
    8a. Amorous Adventures. Integrates vanilla quests into NPC and companion romances. Can be buggy, but works 99% of the time.

    8b. SexLab Solutions. This integrates sex into situations where you may not be able to intimidate, bribe, or persuade your way out of a situation.

    8c. If these aren't enough for you, there's SexLab MatchMaker. A relatively simple mod that adds sex options to most NPCs.

    8d. And if you've still not had enough or MM isn't working, I started out with SexLab Eager NPCs.

 

9. Extra mods - Lions, tigers, and bears!

    9a. I'm not as insane as I used to be so I'm OOTL with these, but for all creature animations you need FNIS Creature Pack.

    9b. HCOS is the main creature mod for Skyrim. It has a bunch of its own requirements.

 

10. Fetish mods! There's plenty. Just look at the SexLab Index. It's out of date, but still pretty comprehensive.

 

If any of the other veterans have suggestions for this guide, I'm happy to hear them, but I don't want to make the guide too overwhelming for new users.

This is not true, you can run fnis alongside DAR just fine. DAR is actually playing nice because it works differently from FNIS, its conditional animations and not replacing stuff permanently like FNIS sexy move etc. It does clash with nemesis somewhat but there are ways around it. Maybe it clashes with other custom animation frameworks since i haven't used any other than DAR, but DAR is super chill about other stuff. Clashes with nemesis happen because they both need to generate files, DAR needs none of that shit just drag and drop and it works. Use both because some of the DAR features in sexlab/sexlab adjacent  mods are pretty nice.

Other than this and the no manager part not a bad guide though. I would say for sexlab modding manager is more important because its very easy to screw your load order and its much much quicker to test things out with a mod manager, unless you just install simple 2-3 sexlab mods you mentioned then it doesn't matter much either way. If you do go for the no manager please keep backups at least and install mods gradually and not 100 of them at once. For the sake of sanity.

Do NOT do this. It will only result in errors and will make removing/updating mods later an absolute Nightmare.
Use Vortex or MO2. There is literally zero advantage to doing it manually.

Highly dependent on personal taste and in no way an essential. If you are New to this, stick with the basics.

Ignore this point and just use Nemesis instead. Its backwards compatible with Fnis and also a hard requirement for many modern animation related mods.

none of this worked for me i have Skyrim special edition and my mod manager is vortex.  so when i first tried getting everything listed i thought it didn't work because all of the mods were for the regular version of Skyrim and wouldn't even let me open the game, then i deleted everything and got the correct game version of all the mods and was able to load into the game. then i got error codes for every mod i installed and the game just looked and played like no mods was installed so i deleted everything and am back at step one . any help would be appreciated I'm new to modding
