Estimate for how long until some LL mods come out?

Based on the fact that it was officially announced that the moding tools will be released in the course of 2024, I would like to correct my original statement and claim that a full-fledged sex mod will not be released until 2025.

They said specifically in early 2024, I'd expect the creation kit to be out by late march at the latest.

As for the full-fledged sex mod I agree that it will take some time I'd expect a early access bare bone version in early-mid 2025, this date will vary heavily depending on community tools like an animation framework and body modification mods like CBBE, UNP, SOS, Atomic muscles etc...

As for the original question, I think a full on sex mod will be at least a year from now. However, there should be plenty of adult themed mods coming out once the creation kit hits, or perhaps even sooner if someone creates a dirty tool to modify the game before the creation kit comes out.

There already is a tool to Mod the game SFEdit and people have been using it.
The Creation kit is always 6 months off from release because they don't want false bug reports caused by mods and they also move staff from game development to the CK development.

There is already an xEdit for starfield? Didn't know about that. Where did you find it?

Probably in the usual place for this sort of thing the xedit discord, as there is already apparently a version of mo2 that works for starfield only on the mo2 discord as well, though unless you are willing to be part of the testing and bug stomping party, I would not at present use either of them, as both are in effect new and experimental versions which may or may not do odd things.

Yes, made by the same guy who did FONVEdit, FO4Edit and SKEdit, like the Script Extender and MO2, its basically alpha/beta stage with bugs and features not done that's not ready for new users.

Aaah, so that's why I couldn't find it.

Glad to hear it is well on its way though!

NONE of the development tools are out yet,  I frequent the xEdit discord and they have a ways to go yet before that is ready (and relatively bug free).

The creation kit is only due out next year (and no idea WHEN exactly).

I haven't actually looked, but is the Papyrus compiler still the same?  I somehow doubt it, which means we won't have a way to create our own scripts until the CK is out.

Without our own scripts a sex mod is going to be... pathetic, if it can even be done at all.

Also the model files have changed, which means the standard tools for working with them are all broken as well.

So... we can't edit the game files, we can't edit the script files, and we can't edit the graphic models.....

All that can be changed at the moment are the menu's (Flash files, and ostensibly the same from Skyrim etc) and SOME textures, which is why you are seeing so many poster replacement mods.

So you are looking at about a year.  At least.

xEdit will come out first, and you will start to see some REAL modding happen, things that change the game in a meaningful way.  But until we get a compiler....

We also have to keep in mind that the variety of hostile environments that players can find themselves in will need to be accounted for in any adult content mod.  It wouldn't make sense to have you start banging away on an airless moon or on a planet set at 197 degrees Celsius.   You'd have third degree burns, if not be dead, before you had a chance to finish.  Extreme atmospheres will require work arounds and planning for to keep everything making sense.

While Sex in these environments is probably a no go, as unequipping your spacesuit will kill you pretty quick, we can still do a lot with modded spacesuits without breaking immersion. For instance, shielding technology that can work as a spacesuit, like in Guardians of The Galaxy 2. So we could have Bikini space armor that applies a shimmering barrier slightly past their skin.

That would of course require great effort to create and apply the effect, unless something similar exists in the games code somewhere that could be adapted, especially without modding tools.

Papyrus in Starfield is nearly unchanged from FO4.  I already used the Caprica compiler to create a script for a mod I released here on LL.

The big limiting factor right now is that we can't make plugins that are safe to use yet.  xEdit can read the game ESMs but it can't create plugins because not everything has been fully decoded.  But it's improving every day.

There is already a working version of Nifskope to create meshes, so that's coming along as well.

Most of the tools needed to make real mods will be fully working before the CK is out.  The big unknown at the moment is animation files, I am not sure where that stands but I know people are working on figuring it out.

I think the character expressions in this SF are a huge challenge/problem.

The huge capacity of expressions in the Vanilla game BA2 file indicates that this part has never been touched by anyone familiar with Beth games.

I can't see how it was implemented.

If the facial expressions used when the character is speaking are a predetermined combination and arrangement similar to the tri transformation.

So the number involved will far exceed skyrim and fo4.

But this is the best case as it can be customized from a new combination arrangement.

If it is just a product of facial bone animation, then perhaps it can explain why the capacity is so huge, and perhaps the expressions used in each sentence of each person are fixed.

If you want to create new expressions, the difficulty will be even greater.

If everything has already been staged, but the character's expressions cannot match the level presented in the vanilla game.

That's a huge tragedy.

At present, I am only concerned about this.

Modding in general won't pick up serious speed until the creation kit comes out, so early 2024 is the best estimate you're gonna get. Once that's out boy howdy we're gonna get a flood of mods and i'm so excited for it.
