Naps-On-Dirt Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 (edited) My Skyrim LE install finally started having trouble right from the start in a new game, so I decided to start over. I renamed and moved my Skyrim directory and reinstalled. But now, when I start a new game, it CTDs after the load screen, right when I should be appearing in the Abandoned Prison (LAL). Probably activated too many mods at once. Before I start the annoying process of stripping out mods and starting a new game over and over until I figure out who is causing the crash, could someone peek any my papyrus log and see if there's any hint in there? I can never tell what is an important message and what is just spam. Papyrus.0.log It occurred to me that moving & renaming just the game directory didn't touch any config files outside that path (like the skyrim.ini and everything else in $user\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim), so maybe there's a mismatch in the config files or something. Just asking: How do you know which mods (and versions and patches of it) you had installed? Did your mod manager give any warnings? Did you heed all the notes of the different mods that want to ba called at the end of the modlist? LOOT might help, but it doesn't know everything, especially not newest LL stuff. On a side note: as you're at it, I'd replace EFF with NFF, the sandboxing of your followers really makes a difference. 3

Let me start with a proviso: Papyrus logs are not meant for finding CTDs. By their very nature they don't do a great job of it (they end before the actual crash). Despite saying that I like Papyrus logs and even dedicated a blog entry to them. All that said, let me agree with @CaptainJ03. I would suspect that there is something wrong with your FNIS/animations. My first guess would be that you are using the SE version of FNIS in your LE game (or vice versa if you changed to SE). In any event, the FNIS output that you are receiving and your load order (Preferably in spoilers) would be valuable. 1

Look at the first 80 lines in Papyrus.log. 40 files are missing. This means that mods were installed incompletely or without the required mods. You really need to fix that.. I have a large number of animations but I'm under my CTD limit, I've got Crash Fixes and FNIS XXL LE. I didn't use FNIS Spells before, I doubt thats a problem but I'll try it without it. In re: EFF vs NFF, followers can sandbox in EFF too, you just tell them to relax instead of wait. Hmm, I can't get a load order yet, the only way to do it in Vortex (that I know) is to extract it from a save file and since I'm CTDing before the new game can make a save I can't get it. I'll start disabling stuff 'til I'm down to just neccessary things and go from there. I was just hoping for a smoking gun in the papyrus log, ohwell. Thanks everyone for looking.

That was the problem, I neglected to activate that when I was doing all the patches and utility mods. Not sure how I overlooked it but there it is. I can start a new game again! Thanks everyone for your help! I didn't think it was gonna be something like that because I thought too-many-animations crashes happened at the main menu.
