Too many script intensive mods?

I have all three of the HighResTexturePack from Bethesda on in my Nexus Mod Manager but I also have the Skyrim HD - 2K (I got the Lite version) so which of the three should I turn off then, or do I just uncheck all three?

You can uncheck all 3 perfectly fine and safely, i think the 3rd one has  the textures for dragonborn, dunno if 2k covers that, you can leave that if you like.

I'm sure there's something for Dragonborn though, out in nexus land.

The packs won't mess your game or anything so no worries. I just disable them to save some memory and i find myself have a bit less lag at times.

Btway, you could take a look on enb's too, they make the game look so amazingly better.(i use the Realvision performance  one, your card should be okey to work it).

Realvision author has a recommended ini too, for high performance and stuff for cards 660 and up, maybe that will save you looking around for ini stuff. (but do test it a bit to see if you're happy with it)

Thanks Spikes for the advice, I don't even have Dragonborn so yeah.

I have been looking into different ENBs at some point after I get some more gameplay mods and such that I want.

Also be careful about :

  • Mods that adds new spawns to the game (even if non scripted).

I can run SIC, Interesting NPC, skyBirds, birds of skyrim and maybe a few others, but I started to get ILS (infinite loading screens) when I runned Inconsequential NPCS on top of that.

  • Mods that adds/improved LODs.

SFO tree lods and SkyFall is ok, adding SDO on top of that => Say Hello to ILS in Whiterun.

  • uGridToLoad > 5

On the other hand, I can run a lot of scripted mods without too much trouble. Wet&Cold, Frostfall, ZF Primary Needs, SexLab, Private Needs, COnvenient Horses, Headtracking, Vilja, Footprints, Lanterns of Skyrim ...

I wouldn't say that my game is stable. But it can usually run for about 1 hour without crashing.

In my case, i start get tired of all the heavy scripted mods.Since recently i had high hopes for the new enb boost dll that saved vram and stuff and really hoped that my brans neww pc would handle everything (ssd,16gigs of ddr3@1600,Nvidia gtx 770 2gb,i7 at 4ghz etc) but alas, i should count on Skyrim's pour engine.Anyway after my last most recent random crashes,(my papyrus logs do not dictate the same entries each time i ctd,one time it's SOS,the next it's frostfall and stuff) i decided to start compromizing and sacrifice immertion for playability and beautification. So i uninstalled Frostfall,Realistic needs and Diseases and Drinking fountains of Skyrim.Do not get me wrong, i still have plenty of heavy scripted mods installed but i would be very very sad to unistall them too.But...i am afraid of starting another new game and find out that my game goes F.U.B.A.R. before i even manage to get to level 20.The mods i am talking about are the following:

ClimatesOfTamriel

Lanterns Of Skyrim

Schlongs of Skyrim

SexLab

SexLabAroused

Dual Sheath Redux

LoversComfort

Convenient Horses

Footprints

WetandCold

Skyrim Redone

BBLuxurySuite

Guard Dialogue Overhaul

Player Headtracking

Realistic Lighting Overhaul

I would realy appreciate some advise for wether i still need to uninstall more mods before starting a new game or if frostfall and RnD are enough!

I'm betting if you put Frostfall,Realistic needs and Diseases and Drinking fountains of Skyrim back in and got rid of Wet & cold and footsteps your game will preform a lot better.

Enhanced Blood textures runs a constant script on damaged targets if you even notice freezes or CTDs in the middle of combat it's that (it's all the blood droplets, spurts, and pools, its awesome but Skyrim's a cheap date). I use bloody facials instead since the CTDs pissed me off.

If you notice CTD or freezing before combat starts it's because Ultimate Combat is to low on your load order needs to be above 7F put head tracking up there too. Can't fix head tracking messing up since the author isn't still updating it to fix the tracking problem but it'll throw less errors.

Everything else is just WoL, like merging all of your hair, armor esps into single esps with Tes5edit and what not. You wanna keep the clutter to a minimum.

PS: upgrade your Zaz

Thanks for the info about the load order.I guess as a replacement of wet and cold, i could use the get snowy mod.Footsteps are not musch of a hustle for me not to have them installed so they could be "sacrificed".As for ctds before or during battles, i have never had any but i 'll try to fix my load order for ultimate combat according to your proposal (though, it's placed there by boss).About merging the hair and armor mods, do i really need to merge them since i am nowherte near the 255 mod gap.If so, where could i find a good tutorial about merging mods with tes5edit?

Also i still use sexlab 1.5 and not 1.2 and thus FNIS 3.5.That's why zaz is not updated.I am keeping an eye for better compatibility of sexlab 1.2 with sos and upgrade of sexlab aroused!

is Wet & Cold + Footprints that troublesome to have together? I constantly see that around here and in other places.

And are there any videos or guides on merging esps into a single esp with that program?

Hi guys, I've been looking into mods that I want to install but I keep hearing how it's bad to install too many script intensive mods. I am being extremely cautious about the mods I am downloading, and have been running BOSS after every mod installation.

Real Clouds, Wet and Cold, Footprints, Dragon Combat Overhaul, Guard Dialogue Overhaul, Better Vampires, Immersive Patrols, Lanterns of Skyrim, Convenient Horses, Dragon Soul Relinquishment, and Even Better Quest Objectives are some of the mods I want to get but unsure if having all of these would be bad for my system. Here are my specs and modlist if anything:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

  • CPU: AMD FX-8350 4GHz 8-Core Processor

  • RAM: 8.00 GB DDR3

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte AMD 990FXA

Mods that I have reconsidered because I am worried, and/or have heard bad things about them: Enhanced Blood Textures, Player Headtracking, skyBirds, SkyRe, Burn Freeze Shock Effects and several others. On a bit of a sidenote I have installed SMIM, and Skyrim HD - 2K, and I am planning on installing some other graphic mods so that means less assets/resources to work with. Now I wanna find out some things:

  • Would it be worth it to download BOSS Userlist Manager - BUM?
  • Can I install all of those mods I listed at the beginning of the topic post, are there any alternatives, if any, that I could look into?
  • Is it okay to be this worried and cautious about installing mods
  • Have you guys had any experiences with the mods I mentioned in this topic post that I am looking to install?

Get the rid off the bethesda HD pack and replace with (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607/?) its alot more effcient use of your videoram

I actually have Skyrim HD 2K, but was also using the Bethesda High Res Texture Pack. I guess I really don't need both so all I have to do is untick those in my NMM or should I just straight up delete them? Isn't one of them supposed to be for Dawnguard/Dragonborn stuff though?

I'd like to know this as well :D Sorry for ressurection

Maybe I should make a list like SexLab Index except of Script-heavy mods that players/modders should be aware of before they install.

Posted

Wet and Cold isn't so heavy script, unless if you activate the option to keep track of fires and another heat sources on cold regions. In my case, SoS is far more script intensive than Wet and Cold.

But the worst "script intensive" mods are :

- Real Shetlers (don't use that one, never !)

- UFO (and buggy too with the DLCs companions)

- some Sexlab mods (Defeat/Submit) are script intensive, be careful. The same for "realistic" pregnancy mods ...

Yea I stopped using UFO in favor of AFT because of it's heavy script use. And overall usability is much better.

As I just completed a total reinstallation of Skyrim to start a new game I asked my the same question, what script mods and which ones I should install when you plan to run already a lot of LL mods (and the most of them are script mods)? I had once a saved game where I had almost all of the following mods installed, not without issues though (CTDs on loading a save, CTD on fast travels, CTD on switching from interior to exterior cells).

So currently this is my actuall installation [X] from the wish list of non adult mods below. Maybe I add a few more over time. So far everything works, no loading or CTD issues.

One of the above posters is totally right when he mentioned that you don't have to run all features of a script mod. I never used the clothing options for Wet and Cold, just the freeze, wet and dust effects for body models. Same for Enhanced Blood Textures. I do not use screen blood (in my opinion a screen blood feature does not fit to Skyrim as a game anyways) and no blood pools, especially the blood pool feature is script heavy. Same for Deadly Dragons, checking the special abilities for dragons increases script load alot.

Character Appearance:

-Race Menu [x]

-CharGenExtension [x]

-and some Race Menu addons for overlays, Freckle Mania for Example [x]

Immersion:

-Footprints

-Footprints Ash

-Immersive Skyrim Thunder

-Lightning During Thunder Storms

-Rainbows

-Splash or Rain

-Wet and Cold

-Wet and Cold Ashes

-Wearable Lanterns

-Lanterns of Skyrim [x]

UI:

-SkyUI [x]

-Immersive Hud [x]

-AutoUnequipAmmo [x]

-Better Sorting [x]

Combat:

-Deadly Dragons + Deadly Monsters

-Deadly Spell Impacts

-Enhanced Blood Textures [x but no screen blood and blood pools]

-Immersive Spells and Light

-The Dance of Death

Sound:

-The Sounds of Skyrim (wilds, civilization, dungeons) [x]

Follower and Horse mods:

-AFT [x] (as already mentioned, I would never use UFO, too script heavy, does not use vanilla scripts, but adds his own, no update for a long time)

-Convenient Horses [x] (no Horse combat, no horse follow etc., I switched off a couple of features, I just want CH for the alignment change and that horses follow on fast travels)

EFF is maybe even more lean and stable as AFT, but I used EFF in my last playthrough and wanted to give AFT its chance and I wanted to use the far better outfit system of AFT.

LL mods:

-SexLab Framework [x]

-Zaz Animation Pack [x]

-SexLab Aroused (pretty script heavy due to permanent threshhold checking) [x]

-SexLab Lover's Victim [x]

-Puppet Master [x]

-SexLab Submit [x]

-Prison Overhaul [x]

-Besiality Extras + SexLab Nude Creatures [x]

At moment I have deinstalled Private Needs and Squirt. PN is pretty script heavy and sometimes I think it conflicts with Squirt. Puppet Master isn't a bad replacer for PN.

There is another thing to mention about installing script mods. It is no wise idea to have a fresh Skyrim installation, with a clean save in Riverwood where you just arrived from the Helgen intro and now you intend to pack two dozen script mods alltogether into your skyrim installation. Vanilla scripts, those from the official and from the unofficial patches need a while to start and initialize. Install your mesh and texture mods, but then do the few quests in Riverwood maybe, run to Whiterun, do a few quests there, click some dialogues, have some fights with bandits and creatures and THEN install your script mods one by another.
