Thinking of restarting Skyrim...

So, the first hurdle: LE or SE?

Is any edition more stable/more moddable than the other? I read some stuff about SE being influenced by the updates for AE and that fucking up mods. Is that correct?

Youtube has lots of videos with new animation mods. Do they work better with either version?

I see there's an awesome pinned thread about modding LE in this forum. Does something similar exist for SE, or is the info interchangable?

I really, really want to play again, but I'm dreading that moment after installing mods for 2 days, and then BAM! CTD! So, also looking for motivation here. :)

P.S.: I recall a mod which basicly made NPCs harrass the Dragonborn by fondling and slapping their arse. Which one was it?

Thanks in advance!

Either LE or AE works well, really it's down to a preference most of the big mods are available on either these days, I'd generally say AE has the most support for non-NSFW mods but in exchange it does tend to be a little less stable. LE has less options on that front but having not been touched by Bethesda in a while what mods are still being updated have been polished nicely and it can be more stable for it.

I can't really talk about modding as it's not something I do outside of building my own mod lists. But most of the stuff is the same, it uses the same tools and languages.

NPCs harassing you could be a number of things but you are likely thinking of on of these:

There are a few others that spring to mind but these three tend to make the core of 'harassment' style mods in most of my own builds.

As for the slapping, it's integrated into two of the above mods so they link it as a soft requirement but I'll put it here too

Hope this helps and your modpack turns out great :)

Thank you!

By "modding" I meant "installing mods", as I consider vanilla Skyrim unplayable.

Oh, in that case I use Vortex and Loot, they pretty much automate most things and make installing mods super painless outside of download times.

This one for SE:

Even I could follow it =D

This is really well done.

You make LE sound pretty appealing since I barely use any non NSFW mods lol. To op, you probably already know this or are smart in general.. but definitely thoroughly read sex lab survivals description. It is dope and it does a lot, but I seems pretty prone to bad stuff.

Ok, I'm surprised that LE seems to be the better choice for use with mods.

Do you have good suggestions for graphical overhauls? The simpler to install, the better. I prefer ones which do not turn the game into one dark blob, under the guise of ''better lighting''.

I wouldn't know much about LE modding these days, almost all my modpacks have been AE since it released, really though ENB plus a preset from nexus is a good start

http://enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.htm

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/categories/97/

ENB is super easy to install, just drop it into your skyrim folder, the same is true of most presets, just drag and drop and you're good to go, just pick one you like. Even if you change nothing else the improved lighting helps a ton.

Personally when I was setting up my current list I used this video

He links all the mods in the description and shows what each does so you can pick and choose what you want in your game, the only issue is it's designed for AE, so you'd have to see if there's an LE equivalent for each mod.

Just to be clear: I don't intend to get AE. It's SE or LE. :) But is true that the SE exe gets updated along with the changes to AE?

Another question that pops to mind: Can any item be morphed to fit any bodytype via Outfit studio?

You can buy SE on GOG then you can own it and decide when to update it instead of a corporation deciding when to update it for you.

cool thread-I also want to say something here-LOL

I would not "think" too much and start with your plan and shop  both games. This will make you busy with a "moderate" "satisfaction" "here and there".

Can anyone answer this, please?

I've read that SE (1.5.97?) is way more stable to use mods on, since SE uses 64bit memory compared to LE's 32. Is that true?

I have SE, but never have a chance to start for I am stratify with my Le.

I found some interesting SE mods which is not on Le.

So, I look forward to mod SE, but Ah, my 3T hard drive is out of space to hole Both version.

Will that my sad story.

To make it short. LE has a much larger selection of mods. Even today, mods for LE appear daily.
SE/AE is 64bit and therefore superficially more stable. Superficially therefore: If bad mods (usually stacks or senseless loops in scripts) simply clutter up your RAM, then 32bit with 4096 MB addressable memory is faster at the limit. In other words - SE/AE are not more stable but have more space for garbage and are therefore more tolerant.
LE can be very stable.

To answer the other question, any armor or clothing can be customized with Outfit Studio for CBBE or other bodies. Whether it's armor from Skyrim, Fallout, DAZ, Blender etc. are.

Thank you for those clear, understandable answers!

To provide a contradictory opinion, SE/AE has some cutting edge mods that don't exist on LE and are unlikely to be backported. Some SE-exclusive mods I can't live without:

  • True Directional Movement
  • SmoothCam
  • Attack - MCO
  • TrueHUD
  • Animation Motion Revolution
  • Precision
  • Compass Navigation Overhaul
  • Open Animation Replacer (although DAR is still usable on LE)
  • Sexlab P+
  • Acheron

If you don't care about SFW mods, LE is definitely a viable option and there are still plenty of LL developers who target it.

There are no breast and vagina physics for LE. I accidently wrote beast. At least that is what I thought I read for BHUNP bodies. Might be different for CBBE.

My advice would be to use the latest version.

The only argument for using LE right now is "I've an established mod list going on already and I don't want to re-do it from scratch". As you are starting out, that's not the case and there is no point in using the outdated version of the game. Set it up from the ground up using AE, this way you probably won't have to re-do it for some time.

Outside of LL, which have been a refuge for the LE holdouts, everything good in Skyrim's world happens on SE (and it's slowly starting to move towards AE now, btw).

Even on LL, most of the good mods are either ported, or moved their development towards SE.

Ok, I think I'll settle on SE then. I'm going to check if  it has SE updates on some of the armour mods that I really like, but at first glance, it does.

At least, I've seen that "What to wear" should work on SE. ?

I'm still a bit confused: is SE (downgraded to 1.5.97 from what I read?) a viable setup then? Or are you basicly forced to pay € 20 extra for AE?

One of my biggest fears is that my modinstall gets smashed by an update...

A small price to pay for the option of improved sideways walking ?
