Oh dear god, Skyrim requires steam?!

Damnit! I hate steam! I use it, but It is a total BITCH to me, I've been trying to mod out New Vegas and Steam is a total asshole about it!

Sorry to hear this Halo, I have heard horror stories from other also but I have not had a glitch from day one modding FNV. Perhaps it is because I installed steam to my D drive which is dedicated only for games.

PLZ extract BSA files. We want know it use NIF formats. :)

Everything is encrypted until it's 'unlocked' tomorrow. Even the text files and ini's :s

But they've already confirmed they are still using the .nif format.

We still use the nif file format' date=' because it worked fine for what we're doing and our modders know it well.[/quote']

I run the Steam versions of Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas and have never had any problems. Almost everybody who mods New Vegas has the Steam version, unless they pirated it.

Are you sure the problem is Steam and not your security settings in Windows?

It uses nifs according to the flappy heads at bethsoft. If I get a chance tomorrow before I play I'll try to pull some stuff up.

And an Update.esm

You know how the default Steam patcher loves to download replacement game files wholesale instead of comparing the contents and only downloading the changes? Well, my guess is that this is Bethesda's way of avoiding 100MB+ patches: They'll never change Skyrim.esm, only Update.esm.

Don't buy it from steam, but it from direct2drive.com (or co.uk if you're from europe like me).

It's a lot cheaper than Steam but you get the same deal, can preload it on Steam and all that.

Confirmed most of the games I mod are steam versions, hell I had oblivion disk but got tired of installing it and all the patches, bought the steam GOTY edition and now every few weeks when I install 40+ extra mods to my stable game lol and it all goes oops I just delete and tell it to reinstall 70 odd mins later and I have a fresh instal to play with again.

Different encryption. If you buy the D2D version, you may not be able to use mods that use the extended script handler. In the past D2D has refused to work with the ES group to allow OBSE/FOSE/NVSE to work, where steam has worked with them and included special code.

From what I understand D2D is selliing Steam codes, and it is still downloaded through Steam. I think it was the same for FNV too.

What! How do you install it? I got my boxed copy today. But when I try to install, it says I can't because the game is not released yet

Yes, it says I can't because the game is not released yet.

But I notice now that the game have been added to my game library, and I can Pre-load it. Annoying that I can't install it from the DVD.

[/quote']Gets released at 12pm EST, 9pm PST in North America. Or if you're really sneaky, you can use a foreign VPN and activate early. I'd rather salivate myself. :D
