The subject of what happened to the Norse settlement of Greenland is a regular but this week we had two within a few days of each other.

23rd March.

Greenland’s Vikings may have vanished because they ran out of water

25th March.

Rapid glacial advance reconstructed during the time of Norse occupation in Greenland

I love stories like this because of the way they talk about climate change without ever saying what caused it.

We must be due for a "what caused the end of the Neanderthals?" story as we've not had one for a while.

There are some studies linked, but mostly descriptive ones yeah. Causation is hard to present in an consolidated way, and it's even more demonized by skeptics or deniers.

The Vikings forgot to invent bottles for their mead.

This and the missing glacial ice "forced" them to drink all the mead as soon as it was made and they made a lot.

At first they had a lot of fun, but in reality it was their downfall.

Did Vikings drink a lot? - Quora

Evidence A: Extra large horns without a cap. They had no choice but to drink it all. No real viking would spill his mead.

Royst on Twitter: "The #viking dragon boat spirit is released in flames for #Valhalla with the first of many #UpHellyAa starting with the #ScallowayFireFestival in #Shetland. #inspiredbyshetland #promoteshetland #islandlife #vikings #norse #pagan #

Evidence B: Drunk driving sets a dragon ship on fire. High mead content made the common viking sailor highly flammable.

So your hypothesis is that the drought was caused by the constant fire-fighting?

? Or too much drinking .... it depends on what you all call a "drought"

Spoiler

I heard that same story in the radio, yesterday

In the UK it is traditionally the period between the pubs closing and the pubs opening.

My Greenland hypothesis is that the Vikings discovered how close to North America they were and immediately fled back to Scandinavia. ?

I heard about that hypothesis, but they were way to drunk to do that.

The percentage of mead to body mass caused Viking to spontaneously burst into flames during rapid body movements.

? A very plausible hypothesis. I can't see any imaginable antithesis

Nice.

I like high places, the views, the winds, the height, everything seems small as well as inconsequential and the sum of all that usually provides me a feeling of empowerment and near unparalleled freedom...

I've once visited there with Master and I have to agree, it offers one of the best urban views I've seen yet.

Don't say it like that... this automatically makes me look up ?
