I good rule of thumb, if your game is crashing on start typically this will be because of a missing master and or a master that is loading after a mod that needs it to load before it. Load all mods into SSEEdit. If you are missing masters or have issues with LO and masters then SSEEdit should tell you. If you have too many mods installed SSEEdit should tell you that too. I'm not on SE and I dont use vortex so I was probably never gonna be too much help for you. I'm only here cause I clicked on this post out of new topics sections and LL doesnt tell me what game new topic pertains to. Posting your LO wouldnt hurt.

I did quick google search prior to suggesting that and 2 different attempts both resulted with an overload of how to change load order in vortex. I have never used it. FAQ on Vortex main nexus page was no help neither, for LO.
anonv8 Posted March 12, 2022 Author Posted March 12, 2022 thanks for your help ❤️ this is really hard to understand
Just Don't Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Starting to mod a game is something that does take time and effort. If you try to skip ahead and rush things you'll likely find issues and little progress. My recommendation is to always start from picking a mod manager you feel comfortable using, so Vortex for you, cool. Now you need to know how to use it, if you're just starting to use it go to the Vortex wiki or watch a few videos about the basics. Once that's covered you need to know what to install and why you're installing it. This info is, most of the time, all in the mod description. You verify the mod you want to use is for the game you have: Skyrim LE and Skyrim SE are different, if we're talking about SE you also need to keep an eye out for version compatibilities, which means knowing the game version you have on Steam (SE version 1.5... or 1.6...). And picking the correct SKSE release for your version of the game. And all the mod requirements. Then you follow every bit of instruction for installation or usage you can find in the mod page. After you've done all of that you should have everything setup on your mod manager, so you go ingame and test if the mod(s) you installed work as intended. Sounds like a lot of work, but most of it is mechanically checking things (comparing versions, verifying it's for SE or LE, checking requirements: all of that is reading the info from the mod you want to use). For example Sexlab in particular has a different version for SE 1.5.97 and 1.6+, which means you need to download and install the correct file for the game and SKSE versions you're using. It also requires other mods (FNIS, XPMSSE, body mods to get naked actors) and on top of that you need to a) run FNIS and confirm everything is okay, and b) complete the ingame install before testing if things work as intended which means c) installing a different mod to trigger the SL animations because the framework itself won't do. So yeah, lots of little details you need to put together, and like I said most of them are in the same mod description, but other things are kind of everywhere. I wrote a guide specifically for this reason, but it's for MO2 (and I know next to nothing about Vortex) so I'm not sure it'll be useful for you.
anonv8 Posted March 12, 2022 Author Posted March 12, 2022 what mod handler is best and easiest to use ?
Just Don't Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 All are good as long as you know how to use them and you have written/video guides to getting started with them. So it's mostly a matter of personal preference. If you're using Vortex and are comfortable with it learn to use it. From what I've read Vortex is the most user friendly one as it does some stuff automatically, but I know very little about it to comment on it.
TheWilloughbian Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 5 hours ago, anonv8 said: what mod handler is best and easiest to use ? Opinions vary on this. Here is mine. If you actually want to learn how to mod the game, I feel NMM is the way to go. Though it works more as a "mod installer" than a "mod manager", in the fact it puts the files right into the game's directory rather than a virtual file. You will hear people scream about how this is bad and you shouldn't do it, but if you look at what files have been placed where, each time you install a mod" it will help you learn about the game's file structure. This way you can learn how to manipulate files manually when you need to. ( I recommend NMM 0.70.9 if you decide to give it a try ) If you don't want to go that route, which is understandable as you are very likely to break the game's install a time or two as you learn, MO2 has a long and dedicated following. Others can advise you better in its use than I can. I am not as familiar with it as I use NMM, but there are plenty of guides around to help you learn to use MO2. MO2 is probably the best balance between NMM and Vortex in how it works and how you can set up profiles and overrides. Probably best suited for your purpose unless you decide to start making your own mods. I won't lie, I dislike Vortex intensely. I feel its purpose is to prevent people from actually learning how to mod a game, rather than teach them anything, other than to get ready to start paying for "curated" game mod packs. ( but I can be paranoid ) I uninstalled and deleted it about two hours after deciding to give it a try.
anjenthedog Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I'd recommend either Vortex or MO2 as they are (afaik) the most up to date and well supported managers. I'm tempted to recommend Vortex (what I use), but such advise is IME hit or miss, since Vortex and MO2 have a different presentation and slightly different features, which appeal to one person but not to another. I'd recommend reading up on both, maybe even watching a you tube showcase vid or two for each before deciding. They end up doing much the same things, but they go about it differently and their look-n-feel are distinctly different from one another. Sadly, they're not the sort of things you can have different programs for, or it'd be easy to compare-contrast them on one's own system. Choose one and stick with it.
