stuckyfucky Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 hello, i just went on a downloading spree on modthesims - downloading a bunch of mods i wanted or thought were cool. now i cannot play my game, it opens but its stuck on pause and the controls for my sims and stuff dont show, and i cant click on anything. i think one of the mods broke my game! however idk which one. please help!
travelmedic Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 A lot of stuff on MTS isn't up to date anymore, or at least not a lot of the build items I've tried. No doubt some of the other stuff is out of date too. It's hard for us to tell, because in your list the names of the mods are cut off, and it's only showing us a small portion of the 101 mods you downloaded. 100 mods is still manageable though with the 50/50 method. Make a quarantine folder on your desktop. Remove half your mods from your Sims folder and put them in the quarantine folder. Try your game and see if it runs. If it does run, then add a few mods at a time from your quarantine folder back to your game and test each time. When the game stops working again, you know the bad mod is in the last group you added. If it doesn't run, cut out more mods and put them in a new quarantine folder, then test your game.
Husk Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 It's a good rule of thumb not to install every mod at once, but to install a few or just one by one and test the game for bugs before adding another mod.
GreyMouse Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Plus, did you unzip them? It looks like those are all still zipped right there. Now that shows as a download folder, but if you took them straight from there to your Mod folder, zipped files are going to crash your game too. @travelmedic is right, empty your Mod folder and add them back a little at a time. ?
travelmedic Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 More to consider: From the downloads we can see, it looks like you have at least one mod from Scumbumbo. I'm not sure if he or she is an active modder anymore, I think some of their mods were taken over by others??? It looks like you have two versions of Weerbesu's UI Cheats Extension that are different size files. The most up to date copy of that mod is available for free on their Patreon page.
Scorpio Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 And... Organize your Mods by each category/type or the name of the mod itself. Example: Mods/CC Makeup Mods/CC Hairstyles Mods/CC Shoes Mods/MCCC Mods/WickedWhimsMod Mods/Wicked Animations etc. Now all your Makeup, per se, goes into one location for easy folder removal if you need to test for problems.

(RIP) There's a nice memorial here and all the mods are updated by the heavyweights of the community. https://scumbumbomods.com/about

I break my CC folders down even more and have creator subfolders.

Thanks for clarifying that. ?
