Mr. Otaku Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 The ability to play a lot of PC games anywhere on a handheld device is pretty appealing, so for travels and stuff it could be a really great investment especially if Valve pushes the Steamdeck really hard and more developers than ever start making their games compatible with it, so there's pretty big market to tap into. Not to mention a lot of people will get it simply for novelty's sake if nothing else, i know i would. (Don't have one right now, it's too early for me) There needs to me more Switch competitors out there, i don't give a fuck about Nintendo and their games and Sony axed all their handheld systems long ago so Steamdeck could be huge is they play their cards right. Until i get one, i'll make do with Steam Link though, sometimes i just wanna lay down on the couch and play some NFS Heat on my phone.
Clea Strange Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 I am just speaking for myself here. I have the steam deck and I have fully switched over to linux. I play all the games I want to play on desktop mode including skyrim fallout and I use mods and I have had no problems. 1

I bitch about Windows and Microsoft enough that it would be warranted. As for the Steamdeck - I still have problems using a controller - They are just uncomfortable in my hands as I grew up with M/KB and never touched a controller till I was close to 40.
NickNozownik Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 I would rather buy a laptop or a stationary PC. Sure it's more expensive but it's all in one, I can download all the mods manually and easily edit them to my liking. Plus it's way more comfortable for me to use mouse and keyboard rather than controller. I don't care if it's Linux because I would still have to use some awful controller while looking at a tiny itsy bitsy little screen. Also I don't play anything in public because it feels awkward, I'd rather do it when I have plenty of free time. Talking about Linux I'm using it right now, I can play heavily modded Rimworld and Stellaris without any issues. With keyboard shortcuts. And the ability to click on things very quickly and precisely using a mouse. And having a fully functional operating system. Windows 10 is still there, dual booting didn't cause any problems so far. If something doesn't work on Linux then it will run on Windows. Windows that can be trimmed down to the point where it's no longer a bloated abomination. I never used Steam Deck so of course I can be wrong, but to me it's like using my phone to browse the internet and watch videos on YouTube. It's a nice little feature, but I can just pull my old laptop out of the closet and it would still do a much better job.

Are you using a mod manager or installing mods manually? I have zero interest in the Steamdeck but porting the OS onto a desktop could have potential Edited September 3, 2022 by Slorm
