Fallout 4 location? Maybe the Everglades?

I want a big city, to me nothing says post nuclear like pottering around the decaying ruins of a dense city.

The only time I felt the graphics of the original Fallout held it back was when visiting the LA Boneyard, because I loved those descriptions of huge, skeletal skyscraper remains rotting above and really wanted to see them.

So somewhere like New York would be the most obvious answer for me.

Well I am fairly certain that Fallout 4 will be in the North East, and around DC. Due to the whole VA for Three Dog said more three dog was coming.

Blergh. To me that's like telling a Star Wars fan that Star Wars VII will feature more Jar Jar.

I'm glad we can agree on that at least!  :P

I'm really not holding my breath with Beth being in charge. They'll likely making it stunningly beautiful but terribly shallow.

Maybe but Skyrim showed they're at least trying a little harder.

It wasn't the greatest story but it had some decent, memorable characters like Paarthunax, and they seem to have learned their lesson about stupidly trumpeting their CELEBRITY VOICE ACTORS that talk for 5 minutes and take 90% of the VA budget.

Though I still say in a perfect world, Bethesda would design the worlds and Obsidian would write the story.

While I agree with that sentiment, I'm afraid if that were ever the case, we might get the buggiest game of all time, given their track records.

If only they'd have the maturity to do that!

I think a lot of blame can be laid on that engine too, which has never been too stable. I really, really wish they would just start from scratch with a new engine rather than keep putting out the same old buggy one with some minor tweaks and improvements.

I fear the switch to a completely new engine might make certain things less moddable. From what I hear about Skyrim modding, progress isn't always that. (True, skyrim's isn't a completely new engine, but it's still a bad sign.)

Actually, that was one of the things I was worried about. It seems the further they push the gamebryo engine, the less moddable, or the more complicated it becomes. A new engine could be a double edged sword in that regard... but I'm just getting tired of gamebryo.

Sometimes new blood must get rid of the old blood to thrive, I guess?

Anyways I would enjoy seeing the Northeast or Northwest. I want to see some seasonal changes. I want to see the frigidly cold temperature drop below -20 degrees Fahrenheit and throw in some blizzards. Play that in hardcore mode (which was a horribly designed difficulty setting btw)... if temperature actually matter in New Vegas.

I agree however I hope when/if they do change engines that they don't lock everything down like other companies seem to want to do now. Having a buggy engine that you can make mods with is better than not being able to make mods at all.

I think the problem with moddability lies with how many 3rd party programs they use. I think part of the reason they haven't released the necessary animation tools for Skyrim for instance, is that they might have a contract which forbids them to do so. I think if they were using tools they created themselves, they'd release them as well.

This has two sides as was pointed out, the bad side being low accessibility for modders. Arguably, the animations are a lot smoother than in their previous games (but still far from perfect).

Given Beth's past collaboration with Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised to see FO4 being released with the new consoles in mind. While I don't think that the engine will drastically differ from the Creation Engine, I hope that they'll be able to utilize modern systems to their full potential, without artificial brakes to cater to a nearly 8 year old system.

I agree that something like a primary needs hardcore mode would fit Beth's approach to Fallout better, than that of Obsidian. I didn't get why Obs used that weird 1000 scale instead of a simple 4 stages message system for instance. Or why food and water are so abundant, that it becomes more of a chore, than a viable gameplay element. I think someone called FNVs hardcore mode "lobster accounting". It hasn't any other function than click one of the many food items every 20 minutes of playing, without much feedback from the engine or the gameworld. While similar in implementation, FWE in FO3 did this way better, I think (not being able to fast travel for a quick bite might have helped as well). I'd like to see it being about survival and scavenging and not about "Did you take your pills yet?" to reduce some arbitrary number.
