DeadSomething Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 hi, i tried following guides etc. and started by re-installing skyrim. the problem: vortex still has my mods and just reapplied them to the new install instantly, ruining it again and scattering all the motivation i gathered for going through the tedious process of installing it all in the correct order. a while ago in some of the subforums i read something about a discord, but missed my chance on joining it and can't find it now. can someone invite me to the discord and guide me through fixing my install? Â maybe, if i get it running, i can start texturing for it, like i did for oblivion. (although i first have to get my old PS CS2 running on this win10 system.)
Grey Cloud Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 The problem was that you didn't uninstall the mods before doing a reinstall of Skyrim. If you had uninstalled the mods then Vortex would not have been able to 'reapply' them. You don't really need to install mods in a specific order. Â The correct way to go about modding Skyrim is to first make sure that the base, vanilla game is working properly. Then you can begin adding mods a bunch at a time, checking it as you go. Â Try following this guide: https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/entry/7521-conglomerate-01-installing-skyrim-stability-fixes-tools/ Â If in doubt ask here. Â Â Â
DeadSomething Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 so i basically go about uninstalling all mods again and then (re)applying them one at a time? i'd feel a lot more confident on doing that when someone had a look over my shoulder telling me what NOT to do from the wide ocean of possible things to do. it all seemed to work fine last time until i installed HDT and SLUTS. i also bet a lot of the crash stuff was from my HDT bodies not being compatible with the old selected animations, so to get it working, the order is quite important. also to not have essential things getting overwritten by later content.
Grey Cloud Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 With Vortex you can just deactivate all the mods. Leave Alternate Start as it makes starting new games much easier. If you know how to install one mod then you know how to install all mods - they all install the same way. Some of the tools for memory management are best installed manually but they only involve a few files at most. The memory management tools are very important for a stable game. Â Â i also bet a lot of the crash stuff was from my HDT bodies not being compatible with the old selected animations, Â Rather than guess incorrectly it is better to gain an understanding of how to mod Skyrim. Â We use LOOT to sort the load order and it works absolutely fine for 99.9% of the time. Some mods combinations might require manual tweaking but that is rare. Vortex has its own integral version of LOOT which works. Â Also with Vortex it lets you decide what is going to overwrite what and it tells you if and when you need to make the decision.
DeadSomething Posted December 27, 2020 Author Posted December 27, 2020 i'm pretty sure i just ruined it by installing something with animations that doesn't work with the body/skeleton i use or i have something in the wrong loadorder or mods overwriting eachother in the wrong order. i'm nearly absolutely sure, that if someone with more experience in modding skyrim would look through my vortex, they'd find the problem right away. it's not that the game doesn't launch - it kept crashing when certain mods launched their events. animal sex anims and SLUTS had a 100% chance of crashing the game. the latest addition to the game was SLUTS, but even after removing it from the game, it didn't solve it.
Grey Cloud Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Why are you obsessing about Vortex? This has all the hallmarks of user error. If the game is crashing while in the game it is unlikely to be down to the mod manager. I am someone with more experience of modding Skyrim and I have given you several pieces of information on Vortex and provided a link to a very good tutorial on building a modded Skyrim. If you choose to ignore all this and continue to prattle on about Vortex and load order then nobody can help you.
DeadSomething Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 You gave me great links and they usually help. I especially asked for someone to directly have a look into my system. "can someone invite me to the discord and guide me through fixing my install?" I found that help elsewhere. i gave them teamviewer access and they helped me arrange some things and now (as far as i tested) it works. Thanks for taking your time reading and trying to help me. I hope you had a great Christmas time and can go into the new year healthy.
