Pixie-K Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 and so ends Star Wars. That most likely didn't win Disney any friends. Disney doesn't need friends, They only need the most effective means to shove their idea of entertainment down your throat and yank out money.
leddis3 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 KOTOR2 was great because it was an interesting psychological character piece that deconstructed the Star Wars mithos. Virtually every other Star Wars story panders to exactly the same formula of heroes and evil empires and how good and pure the Jedi are (I personally think they're portrayed as a bunch of sociopaths but setting that aside..). Yeah, there was an evil threat in KOTOR2 but in a way they're a reflection of everything else in that world - broken people with broken ships attacking a broken Republic and the only hope is a broken Jedi exile with a bunch of broken sidekicks. I loved how all the characters had nuance.. well aside from Disciple/Handmaiden who were just boring. But before this turns into a review, my point is... hey Lucasarts, karma's a bitch! For ruining KOTOR2, for imposing TOR's stupid, stupid backstory, for forcing Revan's gender and alignment as male light side, then the Exile's as female and thus comically missing the point of intruding on player agency, I won't miss you. Star Wars games will go on either way, Disney are hardly going to let that cash cow go. Sure Lucasarts used to be great, but their time has come and gone like so many others.
Guest Lehshara Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 By the way... Raven Software In the wake of Disney's announcement that it is closing game design studio LucasArts, Raven Software has released the single player source code for the two Star Wars titles it developed for LucasArts, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. At least... modders got something. Jedi Outcast code - sourceforge.net/projects/jedioutcast/ Jedi Academy code - sourceforge.net/projects/jediacademy/ I smell Jedi Knight 3: Unofficial.
Dude500X Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 with tslrcm kotor 2 makes 1 look like trash. :/ truth honestly
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 KotOR 2's lack of an ending makes me never want to touch the game again. I don't give a shit if Obsidian was supposedly rushed (which is their excuse for everything), they should have put more effort into making a goddamned ending, rather than making mini games that nobody cared about.
Dude500X Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 It does have an ending... TSLRCM, Kotor 2 is the best damn star wars game ever and Lucas Arts rushed them.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I have the restored content mod. The ending is just being told what happens to the characters in the future. That isn't a fucking ending.
Dude500X Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 its no different compared to the speech at the end of kotor 1 Kotor 2 = Best game ever deal with it
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 The best game ever is Homeworld, you filthy heretic.
dinomagick Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Lucas Arts no more... What about the film production? So much given and developed in the Special Effects!! If it wasn't for what Lucas brought to special effects, we'd still be seeing "POW, BANG, ZIPP and THWAP!" balloons...In comparison, of course.... And, sadly, yet another company is laying off people,,,,

Guest Lehshara Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 @Quick HALF-AWESOME update. Electronic Arts has picked up both exclusive development and publishing licenses for Star Wars games. Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.” Great news but also bad... + DICE / VISCERAL / BIOWARE will create Star Wars games. - EA (FUCK :<) I remember how I said that it would be great if DICE would create Battlefront 3 :-) So... Battlefront 3 on Frostbite 3? - - - DICE (Battlefront III?), Visceral Games (Star Wars 1313?) and BioWare (Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic III?) - - -
ChancellorKremlin Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 EA? The news could only have been worse if Beth had picked it up...
Ark of Truth Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 In EA's defence they have done pretty well with The Old Republic.
Guest Lehshara Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 In EA's defence they have done pretty well with The Old Republic. Yeah, SW:TOR is pretty good game, however it's still not so good like KOTOR 1. At least we are now 100% sure that Battlefront 3 and 1313 will be released, cuz you know... EA loves money and there was/is big hype for BFIII / 1313. - Ermahgerd! 200 posts.
Something Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 EA?Well... It's something I guess. Hopefully Bioware will get the green light to make the KotOR game gamers deserve.
Angrybird Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I don't understand why people care so much about this, LucasArts hasn't produced anything decent in years.
Captain Cobra Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 EA? Well... It's something I guess. Hopefully Bioware will get the green light to make the KotOR game gamers deserve. I can't wait for the gay and or lesbian romances!
leddis3 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 EA? Well... It's something I guess. Hopefully Bioware will get the green light to make the KotOR game gamers deserve. I don't know why people enthuse over this idea. The Jedi Knight story in SWTOR is basically what would've been KotOR3, and within.. You're forced to join forces with a Sith Lord who betrayed Revan and murdered the Exile because the voices in his head told him to after they stupidly trusted him. His reasoning? Revan could defeat the Emperor, but he had a vision of someone else (the player) defeating the Emperor 300 years later. Therefore he had to stop Revan from doing it or that might.. spoil things.. somehow. He's unrepentant and you can't get rid of him. Oh and the best part? You don't defeat the Emperor. You see the Emperor is a body hopper, and all you do is kill his favorite body. The Sith Warrior player even gets a mail explaining how the Emperor is temporarily weakened by the Jedi's attack, but will return. Also because stupid plots aren't complete without character assassination, Revan is turned from enigmatic and brilliant chessmaster into raving bonkers lunatic with an insane plan to use an army of killbots to murder every civilian man, woman and child in the Empire because the Emperor will destroy the galaxy in some way Revan never chooses to specify. Nobody seems to point out the obvious fact that the Emperor, being an etheral cosmic horror, would survive this and have MORE of a reason to destroy the galaxy if he no longer has an empire to run. Nevermind that even the most evil bastard Sith Lord isn't complicit in this supposed plan. Icing on the cake: The Jedi fully endorse this bizarre genocidal plan. Guardians of peace and justice and killers of children! In my view Bioware have long since lost the ability to tell a decent story, and story used to be the heart of Bioware games. I'd rather KotOR stay buried than subject it to more of this nonsense.
Guest Lehshara Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 @Update EA is bringing a new DICE studio to Los Angeles, and it's expected to be a key part in the creation of new Star Wars games. As the Wall Street Journal reports, DICE LA hopes to take advantage of the area's "extreme talent pool," a pool Activision is already knee-deep in via Infinity Ward and Treyarch, both based in California. DICE LA plans to employ 60 members by the end of 2013, and is keen to bring the very best to the studio. There is an extreme talent pool over [there] that we want to be a part of... - DICE General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told WSJ. It's no secret our main competitor is there. Troedsson didn't reveal just how much the company is investing in the new studio. The news comes after what's been an eventful month for EA. The company announced 900 layoffs due to restructuring, estimated to be 10 percent of its then workforce. However, EA is clearly looking to build big on the platform of exclusive rights to Star Wars. - - - Interdasting. The talent pool in the region is pretty grand. Blizzard is right next door, so is Insomniac, SOE, THQ's leftovers, Neversoft and so on and so on.
leddis3 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 If Simcity taught me one thing it's that it doesn't matter how much talent you have if it's stifled under a mountain of corporate idiocy, and EA are the crowned heads of state of Moron Land. Yeah I'm a cynic who fully expects a cascade of dudebro shooters with lightsabers stapled on choked by DRM. Of course if somehow this results in a Star Wars RPG with a great story and no pinhead at Lucasfilm telling me who I played as then I'll be the first to cheer.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 At this point I'm sick of light sabers, so I'm all for more focus on blasters. Actually, more ready for a focus on anything that aren't fucking Jedi.
