Guest Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Spoiler I just watched this video and the trailers for the games are mind-blowingly good but the game play is shit lol. This was the first time I saw these trailers. What was the trailer that you saw made you excited for the pack, but when you got it, you finally realized it was shit?
Oops19 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Nothing new. Marketing works like this. I don't expect too much as the gameplay elements are usually included and work but like in some movie trailers containing all entertaining parts of the whole film these trailers often leave nothing more to explore. Eco lifestyle contains a redhead character which seems to be missing, that's disappointing.
Beaujet Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 The very start of sims 4; I own it still and play it; I'm a dunce. But hey, I was hoping they'd get better at some concepts/ technical areas compared to the sims 3 engine...which they did, but yet that made some things worse. Anyhow, most of the packs are---were--disappointing compared to their trailers/teasers. It's kinda why I didn't care for Star Wars, and Eco Life. Though Snowy Retreat looks decent, but then again, Seasons should have introduced those kind of concepts, which Sims 3 handled a lot better. Same for University. Sad, sad, and just sad. I know it's mainly because EA sucks major farts in the forms of dollar-induced-stogey, but man, I'm always let down.

The world itself is decent and it's fun for several days play time anyway. BB items are good if you like the style and plan to use them in other worlds/builds. The main problem is none of the SE snow activities can be used in any other worlds. Glad I only paid 27 bucks US for it as it's not worth the full price for me anyway.
Vengeance_11 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 A lot of game developers (most infamously Ubisoft) sink all of the game's budget into high end CGI trailers that aren't representative of the actual game and leaves no money for the actual development of the product.
mrhaiya Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Why so surprise? That's how marketing works. They did this kind of thing since The Sims 2 Base Game (2005)
Guest Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Snowy Retreat is the best of a bad bunch this year! LGR's review sums it up. I moved Winter there and it seems to be a decent world.
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Well, this is Fee A we're talking about. Why bother putting much effort into the actual product when you know your hooked player base will buy it anyway? Of course they're gonna hype up the trailers so as to reinvigorate your interest in the game (since they know the base game is incomplete garbage). I mean just look at their sports games, they are literally copy paste with slight edits (often times with some of the same assets and bugs that were present in the last title) and then sold at full price, and don't get me started on the slot machine like MTX aspect of those titles... Did you know that a full copy of the Sims 4 with all of the DLC would probably run you close to $600.00? Yeah, they are THAT greedy. I could drop that much for a brand new game console, just to put things into perspective.

What really gets me is the people who seem to try to defend their BS by saying stuff like "well, you don't NEED to get all of the DLCs". Ah but you see that's where you are kind of mistaken, see we have these things called mods (that take an otherwise intentionally mediocre game and make it 10x better) and those mods will often require various DLCs in order to function and when you start putting tons of mods into your game, with each one requiring something from one or more of the DLCs why would you only stop at a few DLCs? You might as well get ALL of if not a large portion of them so as to cover all of your bases or as many bases as possible. "It's cool the game is only $60.00." "Well, yes but actually no."

Origin Play to get 55% instead of 50% off). Some EP are available for $10 at ebay or key shops. Also some packs/bundles make things even cheaper. $300 is a realistic price for the game with all DLC.

I mean.. I guess a $500 "discount" off of (IF you know where to look and what tricks to pull) an $800 (otherwise?) game doesn't seem TOO bad. I mean it's only $300... (I'm not aiming the sarcasm at you by the way..) What probably even more sad to me though is that there are games out there that are technically FAR worse.. For example I've heard of a train simulator game that if you bought all of the DLC would total around $10,000.00, if I remember correctly..
Oops19 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Spending $10 (or $4.5) per month since release is not too much. One gets interactions, skills, traits (and worlds for EP) 'every' time. Some Fortnite skins cost $25 and one gets 1 (one) dumb skin/outfit. That's really crazy. Of course one could spend the money for other games and play them for some weeks until they become boring just to get the next game. This may be even more expensive.

No, that's actually not bad, all at once for people who are late though is a bit much. I'm used to games like Destiny or whatever where you buy the base game then DLC or "season pass" which over time is probably equal to hundreds of dollars, but for anyone trying to get in late on the game it might run you (I'm gonna guess here) $80 or $100 (it's probably a bit less than that though. I'm just saying, $300 seems like a bit much.
creep144 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Cracked does a good honest trailer for the game that’s available on YouTube. Totally nails it. As for EA, they started to write the book on how to sell the people the same game over and over without developing a damn thing, but the writers had to transfer to the money sorting division halfway thru it. Usually a new season of sports games has something that doesn’t do anything other than remap the controller buttons to make it seem like a whole new game. As for the Sims, they can shove that glitchy, hard drive space hogging pile a shit where the sun doesn’t shine for the rest of eternity. They likely use hours of gameplay to feel like they accomplish something when in fact most of that time is spent waiting to start up or waiting for the beachball to go away for another 15 seconds and then wait another 30 for the ball again.
hughraphael Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Honestly, the trailers don't really do a good job of selling the actually interesting bits of a pack. For example, Snowy Escapes has Lifestyles, which seem a bit meh at first glance, but actually, it encourages you to play your Sim a certain way that you like. So for example, if you like your Sims to stay in shape and you only have them eat healthy foods, then in no time at all they'll be on the road to the Health Food lifestyle, which gives the benefit of being able to cook healthier versions of some dishes, and then improved weight loss and fitness gains when they eat those healthy foods and then do cardio or strength workouts. In the same pack, there's an Emotional Mindful buff which some Sims will find fairly easy to get in the comfort of their own home. If they keep doing thoughtful activities this buff eventually transforms into Controlled Emotions. This means that the Sim can now Emotion Surge to get an emotion buff +4 of their choice which lasts for 12 hours. Obviously, these aren't big selling points. But, the trailer introduces them only in passing while it goes on a spiel about the new world introduced by the pack. Not saying the new world doesn't look nice, but, gameplay elements which work in all worlds have a leg-up on elements which are particular to one world, because players will come across them whether they go to the new world or not.
