Extreme and random freeze/fps drop when outside?

Recommended Posts

Just discovered a VERY weird thing which I shouldn't be having since I played this game for years. But, probably after downloading some mods I don't know, it started happening randomly to the point of making me upset. So annoying.

Sometimes, not all the times, but sometimes, whenever I step outside, the game gets constant fps drops, freezing occasionally and/or everything is like frame by frame.

This happens when I:

Step out of a cave

Step out of a building

EDIT: It happened on a new, clean save I had with zero progress, when I was at Riften's graveyard and trying to crouch/sneak.

UPDATE FINAL: Found the solution.

Did some tests in and out of Volkihar Castle since just like in my video below, it happens there frequently and there were not many NPCs around me, in fact, it was only me and Serana for the most, MOST part. No one else. The issue was the KSHairdos SE Wig. And the wig I am wearing in this video is Sky201. I equipped it, had problem immediately, unequipped it, it fixed and the game was fine, repeat the process, same issue, same conclusion.

I unchecked the Wig part only, seems like the SMP is not working anyways, and in the past, before I redo my modlist, they were working fine without causing issues, but now they are just acting up. It was the wig from what I know.

Will keep this post updated if I find another issue about it or if I was wrong, so anyone with knowledge or same issue as me can come here and find the solution.

EDIT: Video below about my issue.

transient increases in load are, afaik, normal as resources are loaded when transitioning from a low load cell to the outdoors, which is, by its very nature, (no pun intended), a high load environment

Sustained high load is, in my experience, usually associated with hung or incomplete animations and other scripts (ex: mods that are VERY script heavy like one of the "brid" (edit: "BIRD") related mods that caused my game to choke completely early on) that are causing script lag, and as a result, drooping FPS.

As to your other issues, tbh, I have no idea. Without seeing your load list, my guess is that you're overloading the game or have dumped a load of mods into the game without carefully following the restrictions and warnings provided in mod pages about conflicts and load order.

best wishes. Good luck sorting things out.

It seems a clean new save is not doing it, and I have a feeling it was the other Bijin things I installed, I should have stick only with the base warmaidens, got baited by the seranaholic's description needing the rest of the bijis and then I realized they were needing seranaholic and....it's a big story, anyway, guess 90hrs are gonna go to waste now, started fresh and everything seems to be working fine, no weird models anywhere, no issues, no laggings, man....that's so annoying. Anyway, at least I finished the Volkihar Castle quest.

Nvm, even with a damn clean save it still does that, every time I crouch this time. So disgusting.

Guess I'll have to delete the whole game and reinstall it, again, and here I thought MO2 was better and safer and did not put anything in the game's folder/data files. So disappointed.

MO will be as useful as you allow it to be, as any other piece of software.

No offense but after reading this it sounds like you just don't know what you're doing.

If you use MO to install your mods you can disable them, completely disable them. And test in game how is your performance/general functioning of other mods/base game. No need to reinstall or do complex shenanigans, just 1 click to completely disable a mod and another to go in game and test stuff. If you can't even get the base game to run properly I'd look into your system spec, check the game was installed properly (check file integrity in Steam for example), no other software is interfering (AV, UI overlays, etc.) or if your drivers are up to date (and if you've been doing periodic driver updates making sure previous driver versions were properly uninstalled).

The game was installed properly, I know what I am doing for the most part, but this is the first time I am getting an issue like that. I also have disabled and even removed the said mods, it all started happening - from what I've noticed at least - when I installed all the bijin packages, instead of just installing bijin warmaidens only. Even when I unchecked them/uninstalled them, the game is still doing that random freezing for no reason.

It happened outside in the skirts on a cave, it happened outside of Volkihar castle, and it happened inside Riften when crouching to sneak at the graveyard area. Literally no idea why this is happening, and it feels like there's something specific going on. I am sure it is a mod doing that and it is not my system as I tested just now other games I am playing and I had no errors or fps drops or whatever else, at this point I really consider of uninstalling the whole game and re-installing it again and be more careful with the bijin packs.

I don't know what else to do either. I am not doing periodic updates, I have one update for like 4 months now and I haven't messed with that, it's fine and stable on my GPU, can't complain. I already did file integrity on Steam when I started re-installing mods from scratch, which I regret, as everything were totally fine before I try to put some order by remaking my mod list...

After doing some extensive research, I came to the conclusion it might, MIGHT be KSHairdos SMP Wigs. I have installed: KSHairdosSE, KSHairdosSESMP and KSHairdosWigsSMP. Because, for some unknown reason, the KSHairdos SMP for SE is not seem to be working and I wanted functional and easy to change animated hair and I installed the wigs for that.

Test 1: Showracemenued my character, gave her a KSHairdo hair, no physics, no animated. Stepped outside Volkihar. Nothing happened. Went back in, outside again, nothing happened. Kept doing that for lik 5-6 mins, nothing happened. Clean!

Test 2: Gave her the wig, stepped outside, nothing happened, went inside and then outside, freezing and lagging and fps dropping. Took the wig out, everything's fixed. Went inside, gave her the wig again, stepped outside, same issue, lag and fps drops, removed wig, everything were fine.

Test 3: Kept going in and out with wig or not, equipping it and removing it to test. Seems like this and possibly the SLAL/Sexlab versions I downloaded gave me the fps drops and issues.

Will try to run Bijin Warmaidens only to make Serana look better and with her hair and physics and see how it is affecting me, but I will remove the wigs for now.

In the past they were working fine without issues, no idea why they started acting up now that I have a better order of my mods than before.

one thing you can try if you didnt yet is - you use enb right ? - go into enb settings and disable Vsync and set FPS limiter ON and FPS Limit to 60 or 30 .

open  ENBLocal.ini and set :

[ENGINE]
ForceVSync=false
VSyncSkipNumFrames=0

[LIMITER]
EnableFPSLimit=true
FPSLimit=60.0 or 30

[ANTIALIASING]
EnableEdgeAA=false

Otherwise SMP wigs and SMP physics are very intense for the CPU , especially if you are running it on a lot of NPCs...

Lastly when you get those drops, open console and type PCB and hit enter.

Also Bijin NPCs have pretty much no effect on framerate... And if you installed that SMP Hair physics patch for Bijin family mod from nexus , remove it and only use wigs that come with KS Hairdoos Smp Wigs mod by osnius  and also dont have to many of those wigs on NPCs at the same time.

Also you can try Yundao Hair its a lot more performance friendly.

Also take a look at SSE Display Tweaks - it makes framerate more stable even on 60Hz monitors, but you have to set it up in its ini ( following instructions to the point ).

I am not using ENB, and the culprit was KSHairdos Wig, from what I've noticed at least. Removed it completely after doing some tests and the game seems fine and stable for now.

If you want smp hair try Yundao hair, it has same wigs system and performance is very good if you want hair with physics at all, also there are quite some styles to choose from.

Also SSE Display tweaks improves stutters, framedrops , Vsync... try it you have nothing to lose.

Thank you. I believe you, about the YunDao Hair, I used them in the past and actually loved them very much. Can't remember if I have them for the newest skse64 version for my Skyrim SE though...... :( and I can't seem to find them either, Dint is also not responding and I think his server is dead, too....

Guess I am stuck using KSHairdos with no physics at all to avoid issues like that............

And I will, about the display, thank you!

Oh wow, I feel ashamed, I thought they didn't exist on nexus for some reason but it seems I downloaded them from there in the past before. lmao I forgot!

Also, double wow, is your link the latest version? That means the nexus one above is outdated, right? I will download both regardless then, thank you, so much, both of you!
