Crashes that seem to happen based on time (like 30 minutes into playing) it is usually memory based.

I had some success increasing play time by using this mod

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/102610

Which has more dynamic memory management than something like crash fixes.

however, a lot of virus protection software gets really touchy when something starts playing with memory the way this does. So it sometimes gets reported as a malicious program.

read the instructions carefully, and read a few of the comments to get an idea of what you are getting into. For my part when used right it worked wonders. (but a system restart was sometimes needed after I closed out of Skyrim because of the way it manages the system memory can make windows run funny if you don't reset everything.)

Maybe WIndows Defender is to blame for that then, i will look into that.
For the Plugin, i'm not very confortable using something that make my computer behaving funny ^^

I can't think of a tool that can accurately detect the cause of a crash every time no matter what. Whenever i used to have problems like that i ran a check the old fashion way, by disabling the mods i thought were causing the crash and then seeing if it makes a difference, and then enabling them one by one while checking which one it is. Before it, running LOOT is always a given.

Good luck.

Ya that plugin is not for everyone. ?

But on the subject of your post, Crash fixes I believe outputs a log file that can sometimes point to a culprit. However, if as I suspect, it is a memory issue, the mod that was trying to use memory when it crashed will not really be the problem.

It will just be whatever random thing was asking for memory when the cookie jar finally ran out. ?

That sounds totally like a memory problem as Corsayr already pointed out.

If you are lucky creating a skse.ini helps already.

If not try Corsayr "Devourer" solution.

Never heard of this tool before myself and the need to "restart the PC after use" sounds a bit odd (you might still need to also use crashfixes with deactivated memory allocation for the save game string count).

If you want a more complicated but conservative solution:

I don't mind complicated solution if it help, i'll try that too thx.

Why not just using ENBoost? that mod even requires the ENB executable in order to enable memory management. If the issue is video memory ENBoost should be enough.

I tried using ENBoost once but it messed with my ENB so i did bother with it ( a mistake ?).
Does skyrim as it's own video memory caped to a point that the game crash if it try to use too much ? ( i have a RTX 2080 Ti so i never thought about that).

If you're using ENB you don't need ENBoost. So you could discard memory issues, but just to be sure you can play for a while with Skyrim Performance Monitor to check your GPU/CPU/RAM usage and see if something weird happens when you crash.

And yes, by default Skyrim being a 32bits program has some limitations. ENB/ENBoost do some behind the curtain magic so you can go a bit over the default limits.

Quote

How Does ENBoost Work?

In order to understand how ENBoost works, it is important to first know how some 32-bit applications manage memory. Skyrim LE will be used for this explanation. The main Skyrim LE game executable, TESV.exe, is a 32-bit Large-Address-Aware (LAA) application. This means that although TESV.exe can only use a maximum of 2GB of system RAM on 32-bit Windows systems, it can access up to about 3.1GB of system RAM (4GB - about 900MB of system resources) on 64-bit systems. To drive the video card in displaying the game's 3D rendered graphics, TESV.exe must store object geometry (the shapes of things in the game) and texture data in its memory space, as a cache. This cache is then copied to the video card's VRAM to display on the screen.

The memory limit is not a problem with an unmodded game because the cached data is dynamically loaded and unloaded to make room for new data as it's needed, and it almost never completely fills up all of TESV.exe's available RAM. However, when mods are added to Skyrim, the memory needed for cached data is significantly increased, and the more mods that are used, especially higher resolution texture mods, the higher the chance that TESV.exe will run out of memory. When this happens, either the program crashes or some objects do not get rendered. ENBoost overcomes this memory limitation by ...

  1. using available VRAM on your video card and
  2. using system RAM outside of TESV.exe for dynamically allocated cached data.

The second method is accomplished by running an executable named enbhost.exe, which adds up to another ~4GB of memory available for ENBSeries to manage, per instance. The effectiveness and performance of ENBoost is determined by a number of factors, such as size of system RAM / VRAM, quality of video card, version of Windows OS, CPU, and even motherboard memory channel speed. Fortunately, a number of ENBoost user-settings have been added to account for the variety of system configurations.

So ENB host add 4Gb of Vram if i understand correctly,  what is the max memeory allocation can i set it to prevent crashes ?

You can't tweak that value, it's assigned dynamically as you need it through the process enbhost.exe creates in parallel with the game. The only thing you can tweak is the values in the [MEMORY] section of the enblocal.ini. See this for reference and don't change anything if you're unsure about the value or why you're changing it.

But you would be doing all of this without even knowing for sure if your issue is related to memory. Which you can check if you use Skyrim Performance Monitor.

I will try Skyrim Performance Monitor tomorow to see if it's a memory issue or not before headind into a deep tweaking ^^.

So i used SPM to see if the problem was related to a memory issue, from the screenshot in the spoiler, it doesn't seem to be memory related.

I tried tweaking my ENBlocal.ini using the link given above, sadly it still crash.
Got two crashs today, one when i was in the blue Palace, and one when i opened my map.

I also set UseOSAllocators=1 in CrashFixPlugin.ini but it looks like my save no load forever.

I monitored how much RAM skyrim was eating with my task manager, combined with Enbhost it was using 4.7Gigs max and crashed (when i used the map, again ....) at 4.5Gigs.
I really don't know what is making the game crash.

Can the Papyrus logs help me to find what's wrong ?
