Call me Mark Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Games these days tend to last 6-12 hours and are brain dead easy. I'm looking for games that lasts a very long long time and are particularly challenging like Dark Souls and MH series. Any suggestions? Old school ones are also accepted.
polluxval Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 For old school, ever tried "Gothic"? Try Gothic 3 with some mods(4th its crap). Also try STALKER, Risen 1 or 2 (2nd its not that good but enjoyable). Maybe even Two Worlds if you dont care for lame awful graphics. For new school.... mmm...that's a hard one... maybe: Witcher 1 and 2 Dragons dogma (console)
RitualClarity Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Fallout 3, Fallout NV have consumed more time than I care to admit.
Call me Mark Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 God damn it, how could I forget The Witcher?! I played the first one, definitely gonna get the second one. Thanks for reminding me. Never heard of Gothica, I'll go chech it out. And STALKER too. As for fallout.... Nah, I have terrible experiences with bethesda games.

Somewhat odd, considering this is a forum built around modding Bethesda games...
Call me Mark Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Been there, done that. Overrated, Glitchy and boring as fuck of a game.

Also, If you are going to try Gothic dont forget to get some mods, the vanilla experience it's not that good. Also, Risen 1 it's very challeging, has awful and outdated graphics and has a low phase, but worth a try.
Call me Mark Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Maybe Deus Ex 1,2 and 3 will interest you too. Played the third one, the boss battles were underwhelming to say the least. Wizardry added to the list.
The DarkSlayer Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Since you have a Wii, try Xenoblade and Muramasa the Demon Blade. Xenoblade clocked me in like 65 hours. Muramasa has 2 story arcs each lasting about 20 hours or so and is quite challenging especially if you change the difficulty to Shura mode.

Hmm i see, well another thing that came to mind is vampire bloodlines, currently playing it and having a blast with unoficial patch and a few mods.

I've been meaning to play those two for quite some time and never got around doing it. Definitely added to the list. Vampire Bloodline also added.

Dark Souls (one of the best) For old school, ever tried "Gothic"? Try Gothic 3 with some mods(4th its crap). Also try STALKER, Risen 1 or 2 (2nd its not that good but enjoyable). ChancellorKremlin Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 X-COM 1 and 2 (and maybe even the recent Enemy Unknown) The Witcher 1 and 2 Fallout 1 and 2 (not made by Bethesda, and immeasurably better than the modern ones) especially with restored content mods installed, which add tons of hours of gameplay.
Ramses Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Legend of Grimrock. If you're old-school, like a challenge, check it out.
Jerbsinator Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Move xenoblade chronicles to the top of your list. The best game on wii and one of the best rpgs I have ever played. And yes, it is better than skyward sword (and I love that game)
obviouslurker Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I'd recommend the Baldur's Gate series, or Icewind Dale if you have a group to multiplay (use gameranger). You can even get the enhanced edition, but just don't get it from Steam. Long story short, Beamdog updates, sent it to Atari to send it to Steam, but for whatever reason, Atari won't get off it's ass to do so, leading to a bugged version on Steam.Master of Orion 2 was pretty awesome. You can try Master of Orion 3 as it somehow managed to get some good reviews, but the mean is mediocre to bad. It was so vastly different from 2, it feels like it requires a genius to figure out how to play the game. The rest is just my further detailed recommendation on X-COM cause I love it that much. X-COM 1 and 2 (and maybe even the recent Enemy Unknown) Features I missed that were in the original but not in Enemy Unknown: Intentionally targeting explodables to get several birds with one stone (you can only target enemies) Blowing a hole through a solid wall to throw a high explosive inside to kill several with one grenade I found the atmosphere more intense in Enemy Unknown, except in the end-game where it got too easy (even on Classic). In the original, losing soldiers will still happen end game with the highest tech. In Enemy Unknown (on classic anyway), dying happens when a Sectopod somehow sneaks 1 square behind your sniper in the back or other any glitchy mob spawns. Early-mid game mission, I had 1 muton, and 1 floater group spawn, which is reasonable to deal with, but then one more muton group spawned at the exact same spot the first one did during their turn. that was 8/9 vs 4 encounter... which I got massacred.I like the new linear maps though I'm sure some people would disagree. Too often in the original series I have spent close to 30 minutes trying to find that 1 alien hiding in the corner that I assumed my soldier saw, but didn't. So the AI trolls me by just hitting it's end turn without doing anything because that is strategically its best choice. So when I finally find the area its hiding, I'm out of Turn Units and kills me when I end turn, or it has high reaction and rapid fires when the soldier walks through with 70% chance of death. I feel I'd even recommend X-COM Apocalypse. However, the alien ship crashes can get pretty stupid. I recall completing a mission by waiting outside the ship, then killing off 1 or 2 remaining aliens afterwards.
Call me Mark Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 So i bought Witcher 2 ED, Muramasa, Xcom EU and Legend of Grimmrock. Thank god my best bud has a copy of Xenoblade, it was a pain to find and when I actually did find it, it was damn expensive. When I'm finished with these ones, gonna get the others that are listed here.
Strelky Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 My suggestion is Left 4 Dead 2, I have almost 5k hours in that game....
RitualClarity Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 My suggestion is Left 4 Dead 2, I have almost 5k hours in that game.... I did enjoy that game a bit when I got it. Enjoyed the first one as well

I have Fallout 1 and 2 (as well as the rest of the fallouts). Never gotten into to the game. Played it a bit. Maybe I need to look a the restored content mods to improve the game. Thanks Kremlin
RitualClarity Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I played the Mass Effect series as well quite a bit. However probably wouldn't satisfy you on one point because the "boss" battles are quite easy. It does have a nice easy story with some variation with different play throughs.
The DarkSlayer Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Thank god my best bud has a copy of Xenoblade, it was a pain to find and when I actually did find it, it was damn expensive Yeah, I had to wait a week and a half to get my copy, it was worth it though.
