Psalam Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 I'm assuming I did something wrong so here's my issue. As shown in the spoiler below, all the textures in KS hair are showing up as Adobe files (and NifSkope agrees with that). I have reased and reloaded it several times including using WebRoot to "permanently" remove the files. However, it keeps coming up this way. It has affected only KS textures (meshes are okay). Does anyone have an idea of what I've done wrong and, more importantly, how I can fix it? Spoiler
gregathit Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 It might be as simple as that file type is "associated" with Adobe. You can go into adobe and remove adobe's ability to recognize that file type. Or you can right click on the file and select a new program to associate the file type with via the properties. Or am I missing what you are asking?

There isn't actually any game breaking problem with your setup right now: Simply, if you manually open any of those files, they will "TRY" to be opened with Adobe, You can choose the program you want to open these files with, as well as the default program to open them, like shown on an image below. I repeat: there isn't any real probelm here: Skyrim will read them anyway.

This is a Windows issue that seems to associate a file with certain programs to open them. Yakub's method should be able to associate them properly for Windows so that you can edit them properly.

Okay guys, here's where it gets tricky. First, these files are not meant to be "opened". I should see pictures when I click on them. That is, I haven't used an app to open them (I checked this with the Apachii hair which works perfectly). I agree the problem appears to be with Windows thinking that these are Adobe files. Because they are not pdf files Adobe doesn't want anything to do with them (it thinks that they're corrupted). On the other hand, when I go into NifSkope (not the game mind you) NifSkope shows the path to the textures but does not show any texture. I expect that if I placed this, as is, in game I'm going to see a lot of pink and purple hair.

Have you made an attempt at trying to see if the texture shows up in Skyrim after installing the mod? Because if it shows up in Skyrim then we can be sure that it's a Windows problem and we can work from there. However if it shows up as purple textures in Skyrim then we might be dealing with file corruption or something else. Skyrim texture files use a .dds format which can be opened with Gimp/Photoshop (with the NVIDIA .dds plugin installed). My guess is that if you have Photoshop capable of opening it you can indirectly force Windows to accept it as the default program to associate the file type with. Nifskope is another problem that I'm also struggling with. It also depends on if you're using MO/MO2 to operate it (with its virtual library), or if you're using Nifskope on its own in Windows.
Psalam Posted May 26, 2020 Author Posted May 26, 2020 Just to wrap this up - I was worried over nothing. The files worked just as they should have when copied. I post this in case someone else stumbles over this thread.

If it's all about changing the program associated with a file and you want to change it for all files (to open the files faster with always the same program for all the related files everywhere on the data storages): (sorry, in German, but english versions have the same window types) Select the file (in this case "ModList...".TXT with associated program "Editor") and right click for Properties. Click on open with "change" (Ändern...) Spoiler New window pops up => choose a new standard program to open that particular file type: in this case I choose "WordPad" Spoiler Now all files in that folder that are *.txt files will be opened by WordPad instead of the "Editor" Spoiler
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 The file isnt Adobe, it's set to be opened by Adobe.
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 My operating system, right click any file and choose "open with"
