CTD in Bloated Man's Grotto

I'm experiencing a CTD in the location mentioned in title (during Ill Met by Moonlight). I can enter the cave and move around in the first cavern (where the dying Khajiit is), crash occurs as soon as I enter the first path. I also did a little experiment and noclipped through the wall - I can run the whole path from the end to start, only to crash when I reach the entrance.

No CTD when running the game clean, so it must be mod related.

I'm using Mod Organizer to manage mods, load order sorted with LOOT. Papyrus log is full of warnings but I lack the knowledge to interpret it properly - hopefully some merciful soul here will help me.

I'll add that the game would occasionally crash on loading a save, but would work after a few tries - no idea if related. There is also a ~15s freeze on quicksaving/waiting. Save file size is currently 9052KB, all relevant logs and info attached.

Any help will be appreciated.

for me you have a mighty load order issue and surprisingly your game is running !   your loot got crazy !!!   ( or you just throw all the mods inside your Mod Manager and thought it will resolve by it self . )

keep this file ( load order )  safe ( in case you need to reverse all ) because you will  have to sort all of it manually .

Loot tutorial for how to (very easy ) .  than look for ' load order for skyrim LE ' exemples over the net .

you can download from nexus  ' crash fix '  not sur if it helps !

i am going to post my load order as exemple  ( not the best but it is working smoothly ) as we do not have the same mods you will have to compare with few more other exemples and look through your mods to see what kind of mod it is than look at Bethesda guide for a possible position .

bethesda guide.txt     plugins.txt

good luck

Well, I set up LOOT to be ran through Mod Organizer according to an online guide. Apparently it was wrong of me to assume it worked correctly. It's weird though, when I compare my order to yours it looks kinda like it sorted most of it correctly? Hard to judge since we use only some of the same mods.

now for the second ; Mod Manager order .

what you see in right side is actually the load order that the game will load but on the left side is your virtual data folder of skyrim ,

and you need to arrange it the way that the most important file will not get overwrite by all the dependencies and does not get overwrite by another mod

( conflict ).

exemple  you have several ' outfit studio + textures '  ( contains meshes and textures ) you need to place and lower the one that contains textures you want to show up ) . the same for all mods .

not sur i am clear !!!

With all due justice to @coolfreaky a CTD in the same location is usually due to a bad mesh/texture introduced by a mod. What you should be asking yourself is which mods do I have that might be the cause. Have you had experience in your game with werewolves previously? An ENB that might be affecting the already "odd" lighting found in Bloated Man's Grotto? Something that changes the armor or the looks of one or more of the hunters? While the advice that you have been given so far is both sound and good, I would consider reviewing my mods and looking hard for the one(s) that have the poor mesh/texture.

No ENB but I do have mods that affect werewolves (Moonlight Tales Essentials, HD Werewolves, SlightlyLessCrappyWerewolfAnimations. Also SOS affects werewolves too). Unloading those mods from MO didn't seem to have any effect, though I'm not exactly sure if they don't leave something behind. As for the load order, I find it a bit confusing - why is there a separate order on the left? How does it relate to the actual plugin load order (the one sorted by LOOT)?

You may have to be creative in your thinking about your mods to find the one(s) responsible. Animal schlongs of all stripes have been known to cause it although I am unaware of that being a current issue.

I am far from expert on MO but, as I understand it, the list on the right is the order that your mods are "physically" in. Because MO also uses a virtual file system the order on the left is the priority of the mods in terms of which mods overwrite other mods or, in turn, are overwritten. This allows you to put your mods in a virtual load order that would otherwise fuck  foul up your game. It's a very powerful tool but it also can make it's own set of issues. As an NMM user I am used to looking at my physical load order (found on the right in MO) and knowing that the further down the load order the higher the priority (that is, there is less chance to be overwritten). Not so with MO. You must look at the left hand panel for that.

Ok, I think I sort of narrowed it down - the issue is indeed related to werewolves, as the game CTDs as soon as I spawn one. What's left now is to establish which mod is doing it - I have several that may cause it. I created a new save and tried disabling mods. Turns out, disabling HD Werewolves allows me to spawn a fluffy friend without causing the game to have a stroke. A-ha, success! Or not. Apparently, this works only with a new save - werewolves cause an immediate crash as soon as they appear in my regular save. How do I go about fixing this?

You may not be able to do that. However, if you feel that you have to try, get ReSaver which is part of Fallrim Tools found on Nexus. The directions are pretty straightforward. With a little luck this will clean out those instances of the mod(s) that you have to delete to get your game to keep from crashing. If it works you should then be able to move forward with impunity (but without the offending mod).

That unfortunately didn't work, but it inspired me to check my saves - luckily I installed the mod just after starting "Ill met by Moonlight". I therefore have a save created previous to installing HD Werewolves, which allows me to continue playing without fluff-induced CTDs. Thanks to everyone who replied!
