Guest Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 (Sry for my bad English.) Since last week, I've got a pain in my right wrist whenever I'm on PC. Perhaps it may be pre-phase of carpal tunnel syndrome.. So I'm looking for a vertical mouse, for both normal usage and gaming. Is there anyone who is using a vertical mouse? If so, could you recommend some to me? (P.S. : No thanks for "Just take a rest for a while when you got a pain." I.. cannot. Yes, I cannot.. (...))

I don't use one but a lady I work with does and she was having the same issues that you describe. She has quit wearing her wrist brace and says she no longer has an issue.
srayesmanll Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 While not a vertical mouse, I do use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753P1GTS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Basically a trackball but it tilts to 20 degrees. It is exceptionally comfortable for me to use. I luckily have never had carpal tunnel or any wrist pain using a normal mouse or trackballs, but I did notice a big difference switching from a normal trackball to this one. Based on how good this trackball is, the Logitech version of a vertical mouse should be good: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Vertical-Wireless-Mouse-Rechargeable/dp/B07FNJB8TT/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2BA1IJHTZGK4M&keywords=logitech+vertical+mouse&qid=1582756951&refinements=p_89%3ALogitech&rnid=2528832011&s=electronics&sprefix=logitech+ver%2Celectronics%2C194&sr=1-1
landess Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I had to look this up as I never heard of a vertical mouse before (I avoid a lot of marketing in any format when possible). So it's basically like grabbing a joystick in terms of wrist position - interesting. Other uses as a joystick may evolve from this.
Just Don't Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I used a generic and cheap one for months. No pain nor tired wrist with 6-8 hours of usage per day. After 2-3 days it was natural and didn't notice any difference in response or movement execution. If you don't feel like making that purchase or changing your mouse, an ergonomic mouse pad can help too. You know, those with a little cushion to rest your wrist, usually in the shape of an anime's character boobs or butt. You can have some decency and use a normal one too.

Feels like I'm in SF movies. X) So I don't have to move my arm if I use it.. very interesting. I'm not sure if I can handle it while gaming. it might be good while doing anything but gaming, though. o~ o I'll keep in mind, thank you. 3 hours ago, landess said: I had to look this up as I never heard of a vertical mouse before (I avoid a lot of marketing in any format when possible). The general position of wrist, where the palm faces the ground, is not 'the neutral position of wrist.' (I saw it in a newspaper! >~ <) Vertical mouse is aimed to rotate the wrist and make it neutral. A clever idea! 1 hour ago, dontknowdontcaredontask said: I used a generic and cheap one for months. A mouse pad.. why didn't I think of it.. I didn't try using it yet. I'm going to use a cushion pad first.. Not an anime one, because I'm currently not living alone. X) Thank you!

If you play a lot of online shooters (COD, Fortnite, etc), then the trackball may not work as well (until you get use to it). The ERGO software from Logitech can tweak a lot of the settings for the mouse for sensitivity and such, and that would help with the online shooters. I've been using a trackball in some form or another for about 20+ yrs and am used to it for most games (although I will use a xbox controller for a lot of games now). However, at work I still use a standard mouse for delicate work - I design web/application interfaces a lot, and drawing the smaller details is easier using the standard mouse. The ERGO trackball has a "precision mode" button near the ball that greatly reduces the mouse speed for more accuracy so at some point I may switch the work mouse to the ERGO (if THEY pay for it...) I've used gel/ergonomic mouse pads in the past (at work) but I found them more irritating than helpful, but I know a lot of people that swear by them so that may be a good alternative.

If it was good enough for the Arcade.... To be clear, I've been specifically using the thumb ball (the logitech Trackman variations) for about 20+ yrs. I tried using the baseball sized trackball on a PC once but it was exceptionally annoying to use so I dumped it (last time I played missile command was on my Atari 2600 using a their crappy joystick - uuuggghhh). For my current setup the trackman/ERGO is great - my computer is in the living room hooked to a 50" (not 4K) TV for playing games (when not using the xboxx controller)/netflix/amazon watching and sometimes work (if I have to work from home). The ERGO sits on the table next to my chair and I just set the KB (also Logitech wireless) on my lap. Don't need any space to move the mouse.
wild_die Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 I used to work as a PA during my WoW hayday and as a reminder of that, I had what was presumed to be chronic carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands for the longest time. I switched to a vertical mouse 5 years ago and haven't had any issues working on my computer since. The only times I have issues is when I put too much strain on my hands/wrists baking a lot or doing fx make up for 8 hours straight. I can recommend the vertical mouse and an ergonomic keyboard. However, you should also examine your general pc setup. Things like desk height or chair position can add to such problems.
