Bodyslide not working on NPCs

So as said in the title bodyslide for me doesn't seem to work on vanilla NPCs. I used nifskope to check the NIF files in the meshes folder in skyrim/data and they seem to be altered by bodyslide but for some reason the NPCs do not change and still use the vanilla body. I can change the meshes of a modded NPC and it will change to the body which is altered by bodyslide which would suggest that the vanilla NPCs are somehow ignoring the current bodyslide files. I have tried reinstalling the game and every mod that can affect the body but nothing seems to work. I have tried replacing every body mesh file with the bodyslide altered version and yet to no avail. I am at a loss on this subject and i have searched for a fix but it seems that either no one has really experienced this issue and for those who did experience this their fixes does not seem to apply to me like for example reinstalling the game and every single component. I am using the lastest CBBE and Bodyslide  outfit studio. I also have demoniac installed which is a skin retexture mod but that seems to only have a mesh for a mouth  and some textures for the skin. Those are the only mods that affect the meshes of anything. I have used LOOT and TES5edit to clean and manage my load orders but those dont seem to have any effect. If there are any suggestion i would gladly try them out at this point.

Do you use any mod to assign unique bodies for some NPCs or for the player character?

Are you checking with the NPCs naked or while they're using clothes?

If the NPCs are clothed, did you build these clothing items in BodySlide using the same preset as well?

1. No I reinstalled skyrim just to make sure as well. And by reinstalling i mean deleting every single thing related to skyrim including all saves, all config files and all meshes especially. With the fresh start i installed only bodyslide and CBBE and tried to alter the bodies.

2. Yes I check the bodies when they are naked.

3. There so far isnt any mods related to clothing that I have installed

edit: In the past bodyslide used to work i have just reinstalled skyrim just recently and redownloaded all the mods. Been using bodyslide for quite awhile now so i am quite confused by what is going wrong because im using the same steps as i did in the past but it doesnt seem to work now

By default the nif files generated by Bodyslide go into "meshes\actors\character\character assets" and are shared between the player and NPCs. There shouldn't be any issues unless you have other mods affecting these file paths.

Which is why I'm pretty confused. I checked the nif file in meshes\actors\character\character assets and they do seem to be the correct body but ingame it doesnt show. However while the meshes are not loaded, the textures seem to be loaded which makes for a very weird looking body.

Do you use MO or Vortex? remember you have to use BS through your mod manager if that's the case. Appart from that I'm out of ideas, if you have a recently new game (aka no old files from mods) with no mods altering file paths for bodies this shouldn't happen.

I use vortex. To test i used both the bodyslide in the data files and the one in the vortex mods folder. Both of the bodyslide target the skyrim data file. As for the testing i used the one in the data files first and the second one in the vortex mods folder only after i have checked that the bodies aren't altered

So I have decided to do some extra testing while my wings were cooking and it would seem that the bodies are not all the same for all NPCs. So far I have only tested a few NPCs, named and unnamed. Those unnamed are some bandits and forsworn and it would seem that some of the bandits and forsworn do indeed have the correct altered body. However majority have the unaltered ones. For the named NPCs i tested 3 and later 4 completely different NPCs with almost no relation to each other. i tested Fastred the farm girl from ivarstead, she does not have the altered body. Borgakh, I dont know if this is the correct spelling, the daughter of a chief in some random orc stronghold and surprisingly she does have the altered and correct body. Elenwen ,the cow manure, she does not have the altered body. The 4th NPC i Nenya the high elf steward to the jarl in falkreath. She does not have the altered body. After this i decided to test one last NPC which is a random unnamed orc. She does not have the altered body. This would suggest that it has nothing to do with race and i have confirmed with the two orcs. I am now even more confused as to why some NPCs are able to have the correct body while some cannot.

I think I might not understand the issue here, but I will type something anyways ^^

As far as I understand it you have a body replacer for the PC.

Normally all vanilla NPC will use that same body.

Unless you have mods that effect those NPC and prevent them from reading the PC meshes/textures.

Means all NPC unaffected by mods look like the PC body, everyone else looks different, in a worse case like vanilla?

Did you already thought about that it might be a LO issue?

Means if you use NPC replacer they would need to be lower in LO or even below a bashed patch if you use multiple replacers for the same NPC.

What you could do is to open console > select the NPC with unaltered body > check what mod effected that NPC last

If you have mods that modify NPCs and are standalone a LO would help.

does vanilla body mean you see them in underwear if naked with vanilla skin texture?

I have actually tried mods that modify NPCs and are standalone. What i did to these files was that i went to the data files and look for the femalebody_1 and 0 meshes and all that stuff and copy pasted to these standalone mods and it seems to work. The NPCs affected by the standalone mod does have the correct body.

Currently however i do not have any mod installed that can affect the body except for bodyslide and CBBE. I also have no NPC replacers as this is a freshly reinstalled skyrim with no other mods that can affect the bodies. *During the re-installation process I have also made sure to uninstall everything skyrim and mod related so that everything is really from square one*

As for the term vanilla body i apologize for the vague term. The body i would describe it as the CBBE base body and it does not have the vanilla underwear. However it does have the bodyslided textures. which makes the body look really weird as if you are looking at a 3D image on a 2D surface.

I am sorry but i do not understand the term LO what does it stand for?

In a nutshell my NPCs have the CBBE base body but some NPCs have the correct and altered by bodyslide bodies.

Thank you for all who have replied so far i really appreciate all the help so far currently i am trying other body types to see if it is CBBE's issue.

Alright I have switch to UUNP bodies and it does not seem to fix the issue. Once again Fastred the farm girl has the basic body without bodyslide. Borgakh the orc lady still has the correct and affected by bodyslide body. Both have the correct textures it seems that only the meshes is the issue and this issue affects majority but not all of the NPCs.

Load order, you should post it.

Assuming you don't have a mod that overhauls Fastred, and she is not changing but an Orc lady is.....Very tough.

All the races use the same body, so no fault on bodyslide configurations.

Body nif is applied through ArmorAddon/NakedToso. I would look in Xedit with all mods loaded up at Skyrim.esm/ArmorAddon/NakedTorso. Make sure all additional races are listed

At this point is kinda obvious there is something you're not addressing properly. You either didn't used BS as intended (that's how it works with Vortex? the files go into the actual data folder? and installing BS twice inside of a mod manager and outside it's just asking for more troubles, keep it simple). OR you have a mod changing these file paths, between the ones you recently installed or from a previous install.

Well guys I solved the issue. I factory resetted my entire PC and now it works. I have no idea what caused the issue before but since a factory reset solved it it must have been some NIF file somewhere or something. Anyways thanks for the suggestion and the help. Im guessing somehow the orc lady is using the correct files and fastred must have been using the other god knows where NIF file somehow.

Still only early February and we already have a contender for the most ridiculous post of the year.

You had a mod doing what I've been telling you it's likely the cause all this time. There is no way an NPC uses a particular nif file for its body without a plugin file changing its file paths, that's not how it works. You just had lingering files from your previous install (in the actual data folder or in your mod manager's folders).

Yea i suspected that too but I was too lazy to do more to search for the files individually and this is like my third PC so it really didn't have anything other than some minor games so i just factory resetted it.

Thanks for all the help anyway
