CTD after loading on New Game Start

Can someone help me?  I just moved back to oldrim and started modding my game again.  Most of the mods I have are ones I've had working before, and some are new.  Now, my game starts up fine through SKSE and gets to the main menu.  Problem is, when I hit 'New Game' it goes to the loading screen and loads...and then you see a flash of the prison you start in  in 'Live Another Life' for a nano second before CTD.  I have uninstalled all my animation packs, no success.  I installed crash fixes, no dice.  I'm using Caffeine ENB and have ENBboost too.  I cannot figure out what's going on.  Oh, and TESVEdit finds no problems, Loot finds no problems, and I have a bashed patch.  Please help!

Are you using FNIS XXL ? If not, you should. Make sure you have UseOSAllocators enabled in CrashFixPlugin.ini and make sure to have SKSE Plugin Preloader installed.

Make sure VideoMemorySizeMb is set correctly.

FNIS XXL doesn't help with CTDs. SKSE Preloader might be a thing, but the common suspect is that you've overwritten XPMSE. Redo that according to your mod manager. Bashed patch might be outdated, dunno which problems that can cause.

could be a skeleton issue or the papyrus overloading when to many mods are active when starting a new game try. are you using any mod orginizer tool ?? if so try to minimize your list to bare minimum like essential mods and leave all else unchecked then start a new game see if your still crashing if leaving the cell is no longer crashing save your game exit and start activing your mod list again and see if that helps.

The "normal" new game start is known to be a bit "buggy". I suggest you to use Alternate Start (or maybe you are using it and I don't see it) which can help you starting a new game while the problem isn't solved.

as for fixing that ctd looking at a load order... nobody can do that

So if someone has every animation mod ever made in their load order, that will not give a clue?

So if someone has a mod in there but no sign of one of its masters then this will not give a clue?

So if someone has a load order full of obsolete mods known to have problems, that will not give a clue?

So if someone has a load order stuffed with mods using HD textures, that will not give a clue?

where is your fix for his ctd if you can fix it looking at a load order?

My post was aimed at your nonsense, not at the OP. And notice I used the phrase 'give a clue'. And anyway I thought you were going to fix it without looking at the load order.

How many animations does FNIS say you have?

 

Have you tried without the Bashed patch?

 

If you've been away from Skyrim for some months, did you reinstall it all from memory or did you follow a guide?

Yes, I'm using XXL.  I did the math for the VideoMemorySizeMb using a video memory tester: 22400 - 350 = 22050.  I have Windows 10 with a GTX 1060 6GB

Total, with all animation packs there is 17k animations.  I am using FNIS XXL and, like I said, I have disabled all the animation packs (to give it only the base ones from FNIS itself) to see if the number of anims was the issue.  Didn't change a thing.

 

Oh, and I reinstalled by memory.  I had nearly the whole library of Sexlab mods for my oldrim just a few months ago and have been using them for years (meaning I've had to uninstall, reinstall, etc many times).  This problem is new to me.  At least as far as it doesn't appear to be the anims doing it.

1. 17K animations is probably too many even with XXL. It's not just the count that matters.

2. If FNIS is reporting 17K then it doesn't matter if they are disabled or not. (Learned that the hard way last night).

3. I didn't mean installing mods, I was referring to the things that need to be done to get a stable Skyrim before you think about mods. See post #2 by Sladen.

Ok.  I will try uninstalling the packs and reinstalling them one by one.  This is probably it.  Stupid me.  

 

I'm using Vortex.  Does that affect anything?

I use XXL with 13.5K animations. After installing several mods yesterday (inc the DD trio) I went up to 16K and was crashing on take off every time. I removed one pack at a time until the game loaded. I'm back to about 13.5K animations again.

I've never needed to bother with the SL 750.

Vortex is still in beta. It will have its own issues. :frown:

 

Let us know how many animations you can have for the game to run.

Ok, I found the problem!  I was using the XPMSE 32 skeleton from LL.  I hadn't noticed FNIS giving me a warning about compatibility.  I uninstalled it and downloaded the version from Nexus.  BOOM!  My game starts fine.

There is no difference between the LL and Nexus versions of the skeleton. What is more likely is that you allowed something to overwrite the skeleton when installing your mods. Installing the file from Nexus effectively re-installed the skeleton, overwriting everything else and thus correcting the problem. Nothing should be allowed to overwrite XPMSE

Hmmm...I try not to allow anything to overwrite it.  It does screw everything up.  You are probably right though!  Thanks again.
