Are Psychological Profiles Accurate or Fair?

So looking for a job in sales or something I get this "test" for my psychological profile. It's pretty standard for these types of jobs anymore. The test asks questions like "Would you report a fellow employee for stealing" and shit like that. Now, I know the game and always answer accordingly. But I always wonder what the true purpose of that test or any like them are? I mean no one in their right mind is going to say "Yeah, fuck it! I intend to both aid my friends in ripping off this store and do plenty of other shit!! And if I catch anybody else stealing, I'll make those fuckers give me a cut or blackmail them maybe!!". I just want a fucking job asshole, not to steal shit from the store!!

So what purpose do those type of tests serve because I haven't figured it out yet. Is it just to build a profile for you or something? I mean like I said they can't be accurate at all since it's easy as fuck to just lie your way through them. Is your test saved and available for anyone with clearance to look at? Maybe it's just further insurance for the employer in potential court cases. My gut tells me that it is mainly intended to give employers some plausible excuse to discriminate when they want to. IDK. Anybody got good info on this stuff?

Where else have you seen tests like this and what do you think of them?

Clearly you do not... I have a went to college for Psychology for many years and those test are not designed like you think... The people who make these test know most will lie and " give the right answer " this is the real purpose to see if you will tell the truth not give the right answer....

Right. I'm supposed to say that I intend to rob them fucking blind and shit. That makes a whole lot of sense. I would be lying if I said that! That's why I say ALL of these psyche tests are bogus.

they are mostly to give the employer something to use as "pshycological evaluation" in case some astronomically big shit hit the fan and have to  make decision that directly influences the staff, more ofthen then not when some manager accidentally made something highly illegal to do when you have a lot of people under your service.

mostly to handle in court should the staff member rebel. on some extreme high level of employement there may be some actual research behind it, but as long as your answer set you in the "average joe" bracket, the those are useless.

most of the thing aren't even really read until the problem already happened

That's what I thought! It's just extra insurance for the employer or a convenient way for them to tell otherwise qualified applicants to fuck off.

I assume your responses on "control" questions (would you steal y/n) are used to calibrate the accuracy/investment of your responses to other questions (things that are more specific to your work environment preferences). Knowing your tendency to be honest and how strongly you rate your responses (mostly 5s vs. 4s on a scale of 1-5 for agree/disagree) would allow them to get a more accurate picture of what you're communicating about yourself with the other responses.

Alternatively they could just be screening out pathological personality types who will get many right but trip on one or two more subtle ones about, say, confidence in one's own ability (narcissists will overrate) or prioritizing empathy/coworker relations vs. workload.

this seems more like Ethics than Psychology, though some workplaces do employ a psychologist to do interviews

Depending on your countries laws there are questions they are not allowed to ask,as with any worker know your rights,It's easy to lie, that's why the places i worked at had a 3 month trial,,If someone asked me those type of questions i would have walked out, ( they never did when i was in the workforce )

Almost seems like a trial rather than an interview,do you really want to work for people who start off with this crap ?

They should only ask Questions relevant to the job ....not  "are you a thief ? "....if you were you wouldn't be looking for a job

It is level 1 of their interrogation techniques; only the stupidest answer truthfully to this one. Level 2 is workplace habits; it takes practice and a lot of patience not to kill your manager. Level 3 is internet social media data mining; strangely many people fall victim to this. Level 4 is brain probing; this is where tinfoil hats come in.

1-3 is clearly to find the idiot in the room. I personally find them insulting. DO THE FUCKING BRAIN PROBE ALREADY!

Also I'm a Scottish cyclops.

Maintaining the legend that bloated HR departments and staff outside from the core business of a company is absolutely necessary.

The more they create religious rituals around it, the more sacred and untouchable they become.

Secondary side effect is that optimization projects (translate: layoff, wage cut, .. ) won't be done in their cozy cave, but of course in the core business cave.

Do you have more questions?

Pretty sure you nailed it. More bureaucratic bullshit to try and justify "fluffy" HR or management positions that really aren't necessary. Unfortunately you have to play their game when you need a job. I'm not sure how some businesses even last very long with all the fleas they end up carrying. :smirk:

The more involved the tests get the less likely I was to get the job, although it might have had something to do with having more applicants there than at the unemployment office.

People judge you by how you shake their hand.

Test: You shake the old-man's hand, and because he's old, you shake lightly,

Fail: Your less-than-firm handshake just cost you a job (in the wonderful world of gas-station attendants)

I've found that people ignore tests if they want you, or don't want you.

I came here to wish for something for my Player--character-NPC and ended up writing this, what does that say about me? Don't answer that.

Wishlist (maybe): A thread that starts out "What [sort of psychological profile] do you want your main character's traits to be?

Her psychology (you can stop reading now) hates most ugly boorish misogynistic hairy men, regardless of their tools.
