I've used both and prefer PS, though, I don't remember what specifically I didn't like about GIMP. Photoshop just seems to have a bit more functionality I think- or the interface and tools are easier to use for me.

Paint.net,  but an older version. Some years ago I did not like a new version and switched back to the older, since then I never checked for updates.

Gimp:  many years ago I used it, but did not really liked it.  Then I did not use it for a few years....and a few years ago I tried to install a new version.... But the damned thing did not allow to choose the installation path. I do not install anything in C .    C is Windows ( internet explorer and Antivirus program ) nothing else.  So I did not install it.

EDIT: Have they changed the installation?

Photoshop: too many shit I never need ( And I have only  version 6.0,  Shit how old is it ?   17 - 18 years ? 2000 or 2001 , there was Windows ME  )

I use both paint net and gimp2. But it all depends on what I need to do. I also have a very old photoshop version but I rarely use it for anything and paint net is very similar to photoshop.

depends on what you want to do.
And how long you have used another program....maybe you will never like another program.
I also use PhotoFiltre 7 ( no dds files, but good olden effect and some filters/structures that are better than Paint. ( e.g. a canvas effect) )
Even IrfanView ( a program to watch pictures. It can open dds, and you can quickly scroll down a whole textures folder)  have some effect you can add and save.

And GIMP and  Paint net are free.

Paint net can convert files to .DDS format. You can load multiple files into it so that they are side by side and you can transfer parts of one to a different one. Gimp2 has the best lasso tool out of paint - net and photoshop.

I do use GIMP as my main graphic editing program.

I find it quite powerful.

I also contributed a little to its development a few years ago (was with version 1.x)

I did this with Gimp. It's powerful and more importantly, free.

So is PS if you know how. Or at least I've read that you can. ;)

is anyone else using GIMP that used to use PS and not liking the transition so much?

I have used GIMP in the past and didn't like how it runs compared to PS. PS has so many more options when it comes to editing things. I personally think if you can use GIMP as good as PS, go for it. But I prefer PS over GIMP any day.

My signature was also made in PS not GIMP.
