Skyrim won't start anymore

After updating Billy's SLAL pack Skyrim won't load any save. It crashes even on a new game!

I downgraded to the old version and still the same. Completly removed the mod - nothing.

Everything worked until the update.

Papyrus log gives me a hell of error messages but I don't know how to "read" it...

Can anyone help?

If your game is crashing before you see the main menu you probably are missing a master. Run LOOT and see. If you get to the main menu, hit continue or new and then get a crash you probably have too many animations in your modded Skyrim game for the Bugthesda engine to run (see my blog for more details if you want them). In the latter case run FNIS. Add up the total character and creature animations. If the total is over 10k that is probably your difficulty. Eliminate (entirely) one or more animation packs long enough to see if Skyrim will run. If it does you know what the problem is. Then you have to decide what to cut ... (decisions, decisions).

I get to the main menu. I just can't start a game. I use FNIS XXL and it doesn't give me any error.

LOOT says everything's fine. I'll remove some animations and cross fingers...

Edit: Nope... All animations removed and still crashing

Edit2: Nevermind... I don't know why but now it works again...

RUN FNIS

Remove animations or un-install animations with your mod manager not remove it from fnis.

You MUST RUN FNIS every time you want install or UN-install animations.

Make the sum from character + creatures from the last lines of fnis.

Any number over 10k can cause CTD. The normal number is 12k. I have 13k and some players have 15K.

I hope you read this but you probably won't be back. For your purposes you gain nothing but grief from running FNIS XXL. Fore himself admits that it is less stable than plain FNIS and you have just proven that you are not going to be able to run that many animations. Get plain, old FNIS. Run it and LOOT before every new game. Don't change your load order after you start a game. FNIS only tells you how many animations that FNIS can handle. IT DOES NOT TELL YOU how many animations the Bugthesda engine can handle with your modded Skyrim game. See what GenioMaestro told you, with great accuracy. Don't believe me. Don't read my blog. But please read something and someone to whose opinion you will adhere so that you can have a stable Skyrim game!

Surprise! ;)    I even put a bookmark on your blog! ?

My game is pretty stable. It runs with 14k animations and CTD's are very rare.

The problem here was on my end. I made a mistake - or should I say "happy little accident"? - in TES5Edit so two other mods hated each other.

Took a while to figure it out but problem solved.

Thanks to both of you

Rather for the records: i asked fore how much animations he can run and the answer was >20k^^ Since this is pretty much without any scripted mods that's rather academical, but i could imagine very light games script wise could still run with 16k or 17k too.

Thanks for that. I've always avoided heavy script load and always had a very stable game. I recently broke my own rules and installed several script-heavy mods and my game collapsed. The lag was ridiculous and that was only part of it. Those mods have now gone and I'm nursing my game back to full health.

I have just over 12k animations with FNIS XXL and don't have any problems with that number.
