Fallout 4 - do I need all those DLCs for Modding?

Hi,

I just saw Fallout 4 on Sale today. Vanilla game for 15 EUR on Steam, DLC Package for 30...

I dont have Fallout yet, but want to get it, just for sake of the mods anyways!

Now is the question: do I need all those DLCs to properly use Mods and Loverslab mods in Fallout 4?

- Automatron

- Wasteland Workshop

- Far Harbor

- Contraptions Workshop

- and so on... funny enough, they already sound like Loverslab Mods, hahahah.

Any advice? Vanilla or all out? They have not the best of ratings....

IMO if you're gonna get the game on sale then may as well buy all the DLCs with it since you're gonna get it as a bargain anyway. Also, think of it as future-proofing yourself so in the event that you do want to play the DLCs you already have it available now rather than later.

As far as modding is concerned, that entirely depends on the mods that you're interested in. Some mods don't require the DLCs, some do, some just require only one or two. I do know that the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ESSENTIAL mod that you'll ever need is the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch made by the same guys that released a similar mod for Skyrim, and that mod requires all DLCs to be installed - no ifs, ands, or buts. Also, there are other essential FO4 mods out there that require all DLCs too, so again there's a case to be made for having it. As far as Loverslab is concerned, again not all mods require the DLCs, but I would wager that a few of them do and again may as well future-proof yourself now so you don't run into headaches later wondering why certain mods don't work.

The only DLC that convinced me was Far Harbor.
Everything else was garbage - or ultimately a matter of taste.

You should be guided by the mods you would like to have.
Read the requirements of the mods.
But as I said, Far Harbor is worth buying, the rest is garbage - in my view.

My basic summary of the DLC is:

The Workshop DLCs are only good if you really want to engage with the settlement system, and even then you could probably find mods that replicate a lot of their functionality.

Far Harbor is pretty good if you want more, better thought out quests and a new world space to play in.

Nuka-World is a fun world space but the quests aren't all that compelling and the raider settlement system it introduces is more tedious to deal with then the base settlement system for not that much extra (if any) utility. Only engage with the raider settlement system if you really want to role play a raider (and even in that capacity its not that great).

Automatron has a decent, if short, quest line and introduces a pretty well fleshed out robot building mechanic. You essentially can take the constituent parts of any robot in the game (arms, legs, chassis, etc) and combine them in any way that you want.

You won't regret getting all the DLC's..........Trust me!

?

don't trust this guy XD

but i agree on the future proofing. plus there are plenty of modders both intentionally and dumbly who may reference forms from them. far harbour story is better than the main fallout 4 story. nuka world story is dumb but its a neat place and the collection quests were fun and i enjoyed completing them. automatron was "ok" but i often try to avoid starting it until im high level just because the constant random robot battles get tedious after a while. the workshop dlcs are just weak. who builds stupid ball tracks? nobody. bethesda's physics suck ass.

You should get all DLC. If you can spare the money, as it will allow all mods to be installed.

Examle: Nice house mod that uses assets. Or quests using enemies.

The Unofficial Patch is only for GOTY/all DLC because managing all the possible combinations is too much work.

(Bethesda also has fault here: they have weird edits which is why you need to clean them)

Other mods do the same, it is just easier to develop. Plus after some years the game is so cheap it can be expected that someone who wants to get the most out of the game will have them.

Or mods have the UFO4P as requirement.

Thank you all :D
Enough arguments for me to go for all of it. I hit the roof with Skyrim mods and there is not much more to explore. So hopefully this awesome community can fill that gap with Fallout 4 one day!

Going to shop it now :D Thanx again.
