Jambo Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Hi all, Using SSE. Load order: https://pastebin.com/vEvugEmQ I've been getting random but constant CTDs since yesterday on fast travels. My playthrough had been working fine for a whole two days before that. What happens: on random occasions, I will open my map and click a location and confirm my fast travel. After the screen slowly goes black to transition me to the load screen, it will crash. I never see the load screen. This doesn't happen for all fast travels, however. Once I got it while fast travelling to Whiterun, then another to a mill by windhelm, and then another somewhere in falkreath. But on subsequent fast travels these locations worked. Therefore it probably can't be a mesh in the world because I would always crash, right? Other crashes I've experienced: one crash when exiting a home. It did the same thing, crashing exactly as the screen finishes going dark, and I never saw the loading screen. Also, another crash most recently while in werewolf form and I sprinted all over Riften (might have been a memory crash or something because I made the game load a lot of space). The only mod I can think of that might be causing the crash, are the two mods I installed around the night it started happening: FNIS and RUSTIC ANIMATED POTIONS and POISONS. Would appreciate any help. I've never had crashes like these before, usually I at least load into the world and it crashes 2 seconds later, or I would actually see the loading screen and then crash after it's over.
Jambo Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 Update: Crashes still occur but if I simply restart the game I can keep playing for maybe an hour or three before another crash. I'd still not want to have to restart a couple times every night, though. I get real anxious when I see a load screen now. Does this sound like a memory problem? How would I fix that? INI settings? Engine fixing mod? edit: also another thing, I uninstalled rustic animated potions. I'm still crashing but it feels like I'm crashing less now that the mod is uninstalled... I would like to install it again but worry it would increase frequency of the crashing.

While I would be happy to try to help my skills are really limited to LE. You might find someone there who knows EXACTLY what your issue is.
Andy14 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 When SE appeared I tested it and noticed that it is really just a port and no bugs are fixed. Only the pain threshold to CTD is significantly higher due to 64bit. Therefore, I assume that the following notes also apply to SE. 1. In Skyrim (Oldrim) it was a big problem with the sound quality at first. Setting the sound settings on CD / DVD is also advisable for SE - a look in CK is enough to understand it. 2. BSA or BA2 in FO 4 are really good - the right way to install mod. But the compression of BSA in SKyrim was really ancient. (BA2 in FO is good) Remedy: Unpack BSA as loose files and re-pack as BSA WITHOUT compression. However, I do not remember from the head which Bethesda files in SE and which version of the compression was used. There may be more help available in the SE Forum. Good luck.

Thank you for the response. SSE thread seems to be getting no response at all... I've tried to download all of my mods as .BSA and never use any loose files. I did some testing in a cell with an NPC and i tried to pickpocket the NPC. After each fail I would reload the save I made just as I was about to pickpocket them. After about 5 fails I reloaded the save and it crashed. Weird, it's still just doing it randomly! I feel like my game is just cursed with rolling dice to determine whether I should crash at any given loadscreen. I just now uninstalled FNIS and will see if this helps me. Are there any mods you think are very intensive on my setup? I have a good computer, can run Fallout 4 on ultra settings, but I wonder if something just overloads the game because it loads in a lot of stuff on every fast travel or save and at some point it just breaks/gives up.
Psalam Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 If you want suggestions about script heavy mods it would be helpful if you would post a load order. I find that a papyrus log that includes the crash and, oftentimes, a screenshot of FNIS when you've run it can give useful information.

From your first post, I'd guess it's mods that change exteriors (overhauls). You have some of that. But I would not rule out Immersive Patrols II, TravelersOfSkyrim or Customizable Camera. Normally, after confirming fast travel the screen is immediately black (not slow) and the loading screen will be faded in. Have you a Papyrus.log? It's not a crash log, but it may contain useful informations. To activate Papyrus logging: In Skyrim.in (User\Documents\MyGames\Skyrim) in Section [Papyrus] bEnableLogging=1 EDIT PS: Your plugins.txt is in User\AppData\Local\Skyrim

Sorry, I don't mean to be an ass (even if it sounds like it). What works best for load order is: run LOOT and when you're done with everything else there is an icon in the top right hand corner of the screen consisting of three vertical dots or buttons. If you press this it will allow you to export the entire load order in the order in which LOOT has just arranged it. If you would be so kind as to post that when you have a moment it would be more helpful.

To get rid of the patch go to the Skyrim Data folder, fine the single sheet that says SOS_Obsidian Patch and eliminate it. As always in such cases I recommend that you just move it elsewhere in case the lack causes an unforeseen problem. Once you are sure you don't need it you can erase it from whatever place you moved it to. There is no obvious problem that I can see. Do you know (remember) what is in your bashed patch? Bashed patches have often been a problem previously. This tends to be most common when the patch uses "heavier" more scripted mods.
Grey Cloud Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Are you sure all those mods are SE compatible? Example: AFT hasn't been updated for LE for years.
Jambo Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 Just in case someone comes back and has the same problem, I more or less fixed it I think. I noticed that when I had more than one follower at a time the game would crash more often. With just one follower the game only crashes maybe every 2 or 3 hours which is fine for me. Grey Cloud Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 2 hours ago, Psalam said: Hear, hear! Wear, wear? For the last week or two I have been adding and removing mods of all shapes and sizes from this test run. I have gone from approx 150 mods to 250 mods and plug-ins have increased to about 230. I have not had one CTD (famous last words) although the game is very laggy most of the time due to the number of script-heavy mods. I have been removing orphan scripts instances by the bus-load. I've also had a few times where it just wouldn't load but a few tries later or a roll-back and off we go again.
Dez65 Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 First, love this mod. It's essential. I am running into a minor issue that I wanted to run by you, though. I was getting an occasional CTD when fast-traveling from one settlement to another that was repeatable, meaning that I could reload the last save and try again with the same CTD. I have Shenanigans set for settlements only. If I either turned off Shenanigans or reset it, no CTD on fast-travel. Again, not a big issue although I'd prefer not to learn about a problem with Shenanigans only via a CTD. Assuming that this is not some screw up of mine (I don't think my load order is heavy or unusual and this is the first issue I've had after over several days on this playthrough), are there any precautions that could be taken to avoid this? Thanks for the great mod and your help.
