heroscomeback Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Hey everyone, I have a question about how to add a new armor to the game. I have the nif and dds files in their respective meshes and textures folders. Opening the files in nifskope allows me to see how they'd look in-game and everything checks out fine. My issue is that I don't know where to go from here. I added the meshes and textures folders to the Fallout 4 data folder hoping that would mean I could see the armor in the Creation Kit...but apparently I was wrong because that isn't the case. So once again...I have the nif and dds files for the armor I'd like to add into the game but I don't know where to go from this point...can anyone help me out here and point me in the right direction?
Andy14 Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 The description is very general, therefore only general information. First, you should use subfolders: Data \ Meshes \ Armor \ YourArmorMod \ Data \ Textures \ Armor \ YourArmorMod \ Data \ Materials \ Armor \ YourArmorMod \ Second - you should use materials in the Nif (BGSM or BGEM) Textures in the Nif are only good for previewing in NifSkope. In the game and CK it often causes problems or even CTD.

He told me that was all I needed to get the armor in game but I'd have to create the esp/esm myself. I had someone on the nexus discord help me yesterday and we found out that the armor was actually intended to be for Skyrim and not Fallout 4. So we tried something simple where we replaced an armor already in game with the new one, but it shows up as a big red exclamation point in game. So...I do have several nif and dds files but I don't have any material files. Do I need to use the BAE to get the skeletons and then build the armor with the skeleton in 3DSMax or Maya? I don't have either of those two programs and they both look really expensive... The person on the nexus discord told me that if I could pass the files along to a modeler, they should be able to set them up for Fallout 4 using Nifskope...I'd try it myself but I'm super new to this kind of thing. Anyway, thanks for your response!

U can get it to work in Fallout4 though, What u can do is bring the nif into OutfitStudio then export it to ur desktop as an OBJ file. Then import it back into Fallout4's OutfitStudio & use the CBBE reference to give the mesh(s) data..... Fair warning though, ALL tops from Skyrim that have sleeves or arm armor or anything else that covers the arms can be VERY annoying to port. Skyrim's CBBE skeleton & Fallout4's skeleton for female actors have basically completely different arm placement, Fallout4's arms are higher & more spread out then Skyrim's.

I can't load the nif files into Bodyslide as the program closes automatically when I try to import them. I'm reaching the conclusion that the armor wasn't intended to be for Fallout 4 and therefore it will never work in the game, as you said. I do appreciate you giving me some advice but this effort is pretty much dead in the water. Hopefully someone makes a mod like this for Fallout 4 at some point but it doesn't look promising. Edit: You can see in the first image that the armor is looking for an Imperial body type, which tells me that the mod was going to be intended for Skyrim most likely. It's too bad I didn't notice that the first time I opened up Nifskope... I did change the filepath to that of the Fallout 4 female body but it didn't make a difference in game.
heroscomeback Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Update: I'm not giving up on this mod just yet. I don't need the armor...what I really would love to have in the game is the lekku. So...through some messing around, I finally managed to get an .obj file of the lekku, which I was then able to import into Bodyslide (I tried to import to Bodyslide before but the program would crash). However...there are no textures (see image 1) When I try to export it as a .nif it says (see image 2) So once again, I'm not sure where to go from here.

If the BGSM have broken paths you cannot see the texture too. You get this error exporting as NIF because you don't have weights to the mesh, you can just copy the weights from a hair model and a helmet i think... Is easy, import the NIF, make this new nif a reference and copy the weights, export without the reference, done.

Anyway, thanks for your response! Which body do you use in Fallout 4? If it's CBBE, it's not really a problem. If you are still interested in armor for FO4 then you can send me a PM with the nif and textures. I do the conversion for you and a simple ESP.
