cleavagesweat Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 I was trying to cut the length of the thalmor robe (see attached pic) and try to make it into a miniskirt type getup. can anyone help me figure out how I "cut" the mesh and delete the parts I don't want?
myuhinny Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 2 Ways one use the zap option in outfit studios or use something like blender and export the robe out of outfit studios in .OBJ format and then load it into blender and try using it's separate mesh option to see if it comes apart below the squiggly design. For the outfit stuidios way. Just load the nif up into outfit studios and hit the T key to turn off textures so that you can see what is getting masked as you don't want the part where the squiggles are to get masked or it'll get deleted. Select the mask option in the top buttons and hold down the mouse button and paint the area you want removed make sure to release the button off and on so if you have to undo something it doesn't undo everything. Once it's masked click brush - invert mask - which will unmask what you masked and mask what wasn't masked and the masked part is what will be saved. Next go to slider and select - new zap slider and then file - save project as - copy output outfit name and paste it into display name and then save it. Go to the body slide part and under outfit/body find the file you just saved and click preview so you can see how it looks and then tick the zap slider box and the piece should delete. Then build the file if you like it and go to the folder it said it saved it to and grab it. Next you'll have to redo the nif so that you have a _0 and _1 file. Spoiler Looking at the thalmor mesh file it looks like it's one piece so you would have to use outfit studios zap option and turn on and off textures to makes sure you mask the right spot.
cleavagesweat Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 Ok I figured out everything but now I have an question about capabilities of the tool. I deleted a majority of the bottom of the robe but if you look at the attached pic, if I wanted to cut along the lines of the curve design right above the knee is that possible? looks like some precision is needed. not sure if the shader brush can offer that level of precision... also, how would I make the exact same changes to both 0 & 1 nif files? i'm thinking that would be almost impossible.
myuhinny Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 If you want to do percision just get as close to something as you can get without going past what you want to keep. The what's left find/extract the texture file for the armor/outfit make the folder path for it that it has in the BSA file and then use gimp2 and load the texture file into and use the lasso tool to lasso the area that you couldn't get removed by deleting the mesh out and once you lasso that area cut it out and save as to overwrite the .dds file. Next open the nif up in nifskope and right click the robe and go node - attach property - NiAlphaProperty which will cause the part of the texture that you cut out in gimp2 to disappear. Spoiler For getting both the _0 and _1 to be the same you would have to alter either the _0 or _1 nif and then remake the other nif so that you have new updated _0 and _1 nifs. I have never done it so you would have to search on how to do it.
Andy14 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Weight 0 is created by BodySlide - this is one of the core feautures of BS. To work more closely: Q - display of the vertices (green if unasked, red if masked) W - display of the edges T - hide the texture (but less useful in your case, because you no longer see the seam) L - switching the lighting Brushes - also masking brushes: ALT + Brush is always the reverse function. Masked areas with ALT + masking brush are unmasked. Is better than undo. F - shows 3D tool for move and rotate. Should only be used in conjunction with Q and masking. Note: if the mesh is not symmetrical, the mirror should be turned off with X
SmedleyDButler Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Also, be sure your 0 weight and 1 weight meshes have the same verts or your new outfit will CTD your game if worn by any character with a weight in between 1 and 99. I USUALLY do this by just cutting one mesh (usually the 1) and reshaping it to get the other mesh.

For this is the small seam morph.
cleavagesweat Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 theres no way i'm going to be able to cut a smooth line where I want it as myuhinny's instructions are too complicated for me. sigh...

myuhinny Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 Gimp2's lasso tool is one of the easiest ones to use is like doing connect the dot. Place a dot then go to next spot and click again to place next one. Zooming in can help place them in the best spots along whatever you are trying to cut out of a texture. Before you click on the first dot again to connect them zoom in and go around the whole line all old dots reappear when you get close to them and you can click and hold one of them and move them around to adjust their position. Once they are all in the best spot connect the first dot by clicking on it and then use the cut option to remove the texture piece. Spoiler
