Guest Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I'm pretty confused I found this question nowhere. Maybe it'll turn out to be just my problem. We'll see. Problem is this: When you play Skyrim a while, the game gets instable (yes, even more with every mod). A shame, I think, because there is so much to do and I love to get my character on different ways, especially by the mods of this forum. You are a warrior, get beaten and enslaved, free yourself and become a thief, because you don't have a single coin. Something like that. I once heard somewhere that the (unmodded) game gets instable because of all the things you reached. Solved quests, weapons and armors you collect (and hoard), places you discovered. Is there a programm/trick to "help" the game? I tried things like the safegame cleaner but didn't recognize any effect. We have all this improvement mods, there must at least be one to give the game some walking frame Greetings
dankmemesxd Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Well, I do not know if there is a mod that makes late game more stable, but I can giva an advice and say that you should dodge mods that have a high string file (like dragonborn legacy, it has a loot of strings and they will bloat your save) also do not install 100000 heavily scripted mods, because the scripts will stack and they dont always work perfectly, so they are likely to crash too. You can also have a look on this guide, as it provides a lot of tips to reduce the crashes. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244 Hope I helped
Ernest Lemmingway Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Two utilities to consider are Fallrim Tools and NetImmerse Override Cleaner. The former removes orphaned scripts and unattached instances that can build up even in an unmodified save while the latter cleans up your SKSE co-save and helps loading run faster. If you haven't done it yet, I recommend looking at this thread for an addition to the SKSE configuration file. All of these things help, but they won't stop all instabilities. The game's engine was never optimized for PCs and is thus unstable by nature. One last thing: never remove mods that use scripts from an existing save. No matter how well you clean the save file, the game will still try to refer to them and that can lead to errors that break the save game.

SmedleyDButler Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Just remember kids: If your mod set up is properly done and you are using safe mods, there's no reason your late game should be any less stable than your early game. (Actually reaching that state is a journey unto itself though).
GenioMaestro Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 The only difference from start game to end game is the things addeded to your save game, not more. If your game is stable when start must be stable in any point, not matter start, mid or end. The problem appear when you add or remove mod's in middle game. Some times simply changing the load order, without add or remove any mod can give problems. This is specialy true for mods like virgin, and its say too clear in the Requirements, Installation, & Upgrading secction: Load Order: Place this mod after Sisterhood of Dibella and Sexlab Stories, if you have them. But never change load order or remove mods mid-playthrough or you will corrupt your save. You can only add mods to the end of load order, or upgrade, mid-playthrough. I changed my load order in my actual play and i lost some functionality of the virgin mod. Same can append with otthers mods. The utilities indicated as SaveGameCleaner and ReSaver are indicated only for clean your savegame when you remove some mod's and only must be used if the creator of the mod say it. If you use it in others situations your savegame can load whitout any problem but your game can be un-stable after playing a bit. But first of all you must have a stable game. The guide indicated by dankmemesxd is a bit old and is not updated from 2014. I recomend the new guide Stability Performance Optimization updated this year and follow it. My game need ENBoost + Crash Fixes 12 with SKSE Plugin Preloader and "UseOSAllocators=1" for be stable. If i not have all of this my game make CTD. One importan utility for me is BethINI. With this utility you can manage one of the most important things for give stability to your game. I mean Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini because this files have very important parameters related to stablity.
Guest Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 So there are at least "some" ways ? In this topic I wanted to focus on the instability even if you don't add/remove mods mid-game. I think it should be pretty clear now that this is no good. We have a lots of topics about this. Even though I still wonder how you play with mods like Anubs great animations that come out from time to time ... But that's not what I wanted to ask (here). 18 hours ago, GenioMaestro said: If your game is stable when start must be stable in any point, not matter start, mid or end. Don't know if this is really correct. For me it makes sense, because the game is the game. Everything is there, in the script, no matter if I discovered a place or not. the lines for a quest are in the script, no matter if I have started or completed it yet. But I had Skyrim for PS4 once where you can't have mods. And I definitely can tell you that you have more freezing and crashing when you have played several hours (days, weeks, dunno). Maybe it's the same like your pc getting slower after some time if you don't "reset" it. I tested some of the programs a time ago, Fallrim Tools for example. That days I got no effect, but that was when I already had some issues with my safegame. Maybe it was too late. To "clean" something is not the same as to "repair". That's why we use different words ? Now that there are so much programs I get another question: Do they interfere with each other? Can I break my game when using different/too much? (In fact I'm not just asking for myself, cause if I crash my game and can't fix it, I swear for some time, tell myself that I won't play it ever again, because I already finished every quest sometime ... and start a new game 1-2 weeks later ?)
GenioMaestro Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 As you know, skyrim have a lot bugs and problems that has been solved by Bethesda in a lot of updates made to the game, then, of course, is not perfect, and sometimes give a lot of stupid problems. Read, if want: Spoiler For example, in one of my match's in the past year i can't make the civil war missions because the dialog not appear, and i come from play and mod skyrim for 5 years, im a professional computer developer with 20 years of experince and i make some public mod's, then i have enougth capacity for manage the CK and understand papyrus code, read web pages, search support... and im unable of solve the problem. Of course, the CW missions go perfect in my next game. For other side, the game change as you make missions. For example, depending as you how make the CW missions you can have diferents jarl's, and same in a lot of points in the game. The things that say the NPC depend of the mission that you make, and some habilities that you have over your player come as reward's from missions or come from things that you make in the game, like activate the stone that you want, specific habilities like magic, steal, pickpocket, etc... Then, really, the game is diferent for each player, and of course, is diferent in each match of the same player. This is one of the big marvels of skyrim, but is not made as free. This big variety is made with a big lot of conditions inside the game that execute diferent fragments of code in each situation. This complexity derive, for one side, in a very good game that is diferent each time AND a lot of problems and things that NOT WORK correctly in some situations. At last point, a lot of problem in vanilla skyrim has been solved by Bethesda, but others solutions come from UN-Official patch's and some problems of stability are solved with SKSE, ENB, Crash Fixes... Then, is better play modded skyrim for the problems solved. But have a moded Skyrim allow you add more things to the game and this additions can have her own problems and some can add instability to your game. At last point, nothing in this life is perfect. Have a computer that work perfect in all situations is very complex, and have a perfect game is, if not a panacea, is too near. As you say, you computer slow down with time, and the same happend in all programs and games. Then, not search the perfection because simply not exist.

Of course I also know about strange bugs, that's one thing why I love playing at the pc - you can at least help yourself (some times) via console if some bug blocks whole quest etc.. Your words about the game changes the way you play it just point out what I was thinking about when you said the game must be stable at any time if it is once. And I did not open this topic because I'm searching for a perfect game but for a stable one. That's why I chose this word in the title ? Of course you can't reach perfection in the real world and searching for it may be a waste of time (even though some religions etc. may disagree ?). But if you try to get as near as possible to perfection, you get the best result possibel. A scary and dark way of thinking, if you think at every step you make "I can't reach perfection, so why even try?" With that thinking we would all still be fishes. "We will never be perfect land-walkers, let's better stay here." *philosopher-mode off* ? (Don't get me wrong,GenioMaestro, I know what you wanted to say. But the way you say it sounds like "Hey, lets build a car. Well, we can't make perfect breaks, that stop at a point. So we better don't add breaks at all.")

And for get a stable skyrim in pc you must have the recomended utilitys and patch's. Must put some configurations as said the recomended guides, but some specific parameters are machine dependant, for that the utilities and the game have a big lot of parameters, because in SOME machines must be diferents. That not mean that all things in the game work perfect, but at least the big mayority. In some times i get strange frame drops, spell's that not make the effect, dialog that must appear and not are here. But i think my game is stable because is very very strange for me get a CTD or a freeze.
