Some of the bans are reasonable (asking for help to pirate, stolen mods etc) but there were two i saw banned for just the name, and many just by simple request. Many of the users also didn't get a single warning before getting perma-banned.

You can't mod, you can't patch it and you certainly can't get the DLC when they come out because you'd have to wait for it to be pirated. Then comes the possibility of a file being corrupted in downloading and you have to repeat the whole thing just to play the game. $60 (or way less thanks to Steam Sales) is a small price for a game will full support for everything.

If it was, you get the normal, advertised game. If it was a pirate, it changed every single enemy in the game into actual pirates with insane amounts of health. If the pirates were actually defeated, the game then blocked you from accessing the other half of the game.

The dumb pirate will ask: Why mod doesn't work, I have pirated version? The smart one will go, take a look, read you need updates and most likely download it. How will you know he is a pirate? You wont. You say that almost proudly. At any rate, pirating is dumb. I used to pirate things as an "extended demo" type stuff. After playing the games for a while I decided whether to buy them or not. Eventually I got tired of doing that because of malware and decided to legitimately buy shit or play actual demos. My PC hasn't been happier since, and I don't feel guilty or paranoid about viruses anymore.
