Wicked Whims Powered Turing Machine View File ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE PROVEN THEIR ATHLETICISM BY RUNNING 18 CONSECUTIVE LAPS AROUND THE SUN ARE PERMITTED BEYOND THIS POINT: Did you know that Wicked Whims is Turing-complete? This file contains a Turing machine that is powered by Wicked Whims that you can run. This particular Turing machine reads two bits of input and performs a logical NOR on them before halting, but if you feed it an input string less than two bits long, then it will loop forever. While I have previously proven WW to be Turing-complete with four animations, the Turing machine has reduced that number to 1. Here's the transition function (A is the starting state): The wall and floor material are chosen to convey information about what each part of the lot contributes to the Turing machine: Every sim plays a part in the Turing machine. There is 1 sim to act as the head and 1 sim per symbol in the tape alphabet per cell (in this case, I only built two cells since this particular Turing machine never uses more than two cells of memory). Furthermore, every door is locked to allow only certain sims to access it; if I wanted a door usable by all sims, I would not have a wall in the first place. The appearance of the door communicates exactly who can use it: I included a paper that goes into detail about how the Turing machine works, but here's a quick summary: When sims have WW sex ona bed, they can enter from the side of the bed, but they are placed at the foot of the bed when they are finished. If the foot of the bed is separated from the side of the bed (such as with a wall), then the bed becomes a one-way gate that sims pass through by having sex. By disabling all solo animations, sims additionally need a partner to pass through. The lot consists of a modular cell-based design. An infinitely large lot would have the cell design repeating infinitely in both directions along a single horizontal axis. Each cell has a register and a reserve. Each cell has one symbol sim per symbol in the tape alphabet with one of these being in the register. The symbols in the registers of the cells spell out the contents of the TM tape. The cell's remaining symbols go in the reserve. The head enters the register via one of the large rooms with a computer. The symbols can freely move between these rooms, but the head cannot. The room he is in corresponds to the current state of the machine. Attached to each of these rooms is one bedroom per symbol. The head can access all these bedrooms, but each symbol only has access to one. Eventually the head will have sex with the symbol in the register, which will read the symbol. At the exit to the downstairs bedroom is a ladder up to a small exit room. The head exits into another upstairs bedroom while the symbol can exit into the main hallway of the reserve. The register is now empty, and the head is in a room corresponding to being in a certain state and having read a certain symbol. The symbol to write back in this situation can enter the bedroom as well and have sex with the head. At the exit of this bedroom, the symbol can make her way downstairs and into the large rooms of the register if she wishes, but the head must go down into an underground network of hallways known as the spaghetti layer. These hallways will take the head to a neighboring cell and let him exit into one of the large rooms. Which cell he goes to as well as which room he can enter is determined by the direction of head movement as well as the state to transition to. The computers manipulate the head by giving him a reason to go to various locations.
