Think tank: universal structure of a radiant prostitution quest system

TLDR: Prostitution mods need a versatile and big collection of radiant quests to be entertaining while still repetetive by name. A structure can help to keep that pile maintainable.

 

Mod in mind: Radiant Prostitution (RP), spin-offs like Radiant Prostitution/Gigolo (RPG) , Night Mistress Mansion and similar

Modders: Feel free to use this train of thought in your mods

Limitations: I ask everybody to use this only in mods, that will be hosted here on LL and free to play. I refuse to take part or support any pay-to-play mods!

 

The structure is formed along the quest stages but it is only a frame for the plot of the real story.

The real story is the important par and still needs to be told! The structure is not about any particular story at all and does not replace any of them. It's just one possible engine under the hood.

 

So you have a plot in mind?

But the plot does not need some of the proposed stages or they don't make sense in the intended story: Skip them!

 

The master of the ceremony speaks / Prelude / the foyer

  • 000 - technical stage - use this for reset and initializing purposes
  • 0xx - blank, maybe background stuff , but strctly no journal entry yet

Act 1 - Exposition

  • 100 - talk to the quest giver
  • 110 - I got a letter with details -> read it
  • 120 - letter is read, the journal and various tasks unfold
  • 1xx - minor stuff - story preperation type
  • 200 - obtain knowledge, gather background - read, talk, observe, meet
  • 210 - if possible - Hey you, modmaker! I'm talking to you : We need drama! Tell it! Here!
  • 2xx - if needed
  • 300 - obtain items - preperation is everything - buy, steal, craft, fetch
  • 3xx - if needed

Act 2 - Complications

  • 400 - reach the place of action - the main actor (player) enters
  • 410 - talk to the counter part - the client, a sponsor, the host, a steward, a shady voyeur,  a majordomo, ...
  • 420 - feel the consequences of knowledge or the lack of it
  • 430 - feel the consequences of equipment or the lack of it
  • 450 - appetiser - introduce yourself - someone gets a first taste
  • 4xx - if needed
  • 500 - the main course - do the dirty act
  • 5xx - whatever is needed
  • 600 - dessert - only accessible if all is going well, all preperations were successful, etc..
  • 6xx - whatever is needed

Act 3 - Conclusion

  • 700 - quest failed stage - do the final story telling stuff here
  • 710 - talk to the counter part to close the bracket
  • 7xx - if needed
  • 790 - talk to the quest giver to close the story
  • 800 - quest completed stage - do the final story telling stuff here
  • 810 - talk to the counter part to close the bracket
  • 8xx - if needed
  • 890 - talk to the quest giver to close the story

The audience leaves the theater, the cleaning staff tidies up

  • 9xx - if needed -  technical stuff only
  • 980 - technical stage - for failed quests - only technical stuff in here
  • 990 - technical stage - for completed quests - only technical stuff in here

:smile: This is just supposed to serve as an imaginary framework.

As long as you have only one or two quests to maintain - no need for that

But if you have many of those, it will sooner or later be diffcult, time-consuming and error-provoking to support them.

In RP/G we had 9 of those, 10 with the last 3.6 version and Caden is going to start the moon rocket with a big pile of them soon-ish.  :smiley:

As good as that is from the story-perspective - I fear for the effort it takes to maintain that ... IF they don't share a common structure

 

It's just a proposal  but I'm very happy if you think about picking up one thought or the other.

My intention is it to make your (maintenance+support) work easier

Yea I like it, A lot of the coming quest are not repeatable in RPG, but even so, if someone has a quest in their head, can could put it in this framework for any modder to pull from would be great, thanks worik
