Development Blog & Updates

This is the blog where new developments for Ivy are talked about, shown and discussed.

Have an idea for Ivy's new version? Come here to suggest it!

Interested in the latest developments? Come here to check it out!

Current Development Status:

Finished development.

Current development status:

- Working on finalizing 5.2. for release to testers. Will take weeks more.

- Preparing 6.0 with the VA, working on finding the perfect sound for Ivy.

- Working on the Multi Follower Mod that will be officially supported by Ivy.

Currently there are 2 known bugs & issues:

1) Sometimes Ivy incorrectly disables her teleporter, thinking that the BOS is in the vicinity, or disables it even after the player has made the BOS and enemy.

CAUSE: Unknown, cannot be reproduced.

WORKAROUND: No known work-around at this time, but it only happens VERY sporadically.

FIXED: This should be fixed in 5.2. Cannot be reproduced by myself or testers, but new safeguards should solve that in 5.2.

2) Sometimes Ivy 'hangs' in a talking scene with settlers, making her unresponsive.

CAUSE: Fast traveling when Ivy just started this scene, or is in the middle of it. It's sometimes hard to recognize because she could still be 'walking towards' her speaking partner. After fast travel, this partner is lost, locking her until she close enough to that speaking partner (e.g. the settler she wanted to speak to).

WORKAROUND 1: Find the QUESTID for quest name: _ivy_SpeaksWithNPC then reset that quest like this:

 - Type 'help _ivy_SpeaksWithNPC' in the console, press enter, then note down the Quest ID.

- Type 'ResetQuest <Quest ID>

WORKAROUND 2: Go back to the settler she was speaking with, backtracking the settlements you recently visited usually fixes the problem.

FIXED: This has been fixed in 5.2.

Great news - looking forward so much to 5.2.  The wait is giving me a perfect excuse to fiddle with my new game set up and try out different mods.  Modding heaven! ?

I’ll speak for myself, and I suppose now is as good a time as any.

My health required an extended absence, and while I’d rather not go into the details, the fact of the matter is, the absence was necessity.

So, the good news is, I am in fact alive and well. Better than I have been in ...well, maybe ever.

Unfortunately my absence required that Reginald move on without me, so I am no longer associated with this project.

He alone created the brilliance that is Ivy, and only he knows what is best for her. I am truly blessed for having been a part of her for as long as I did, and the lessons I learned as a result are beyond priceless. Ivy changed me more than I can ever express, and I will carry her with me in my heart forever.

I’m sure whatever Reginald has in store will be amazing. It always is.

As for me, who knows? The right project is out there for me, somewhere. The universe will show me the way, as she always has.

@ChicGeek First I'm so happy to hear you are ok, I think most people following the Ivy project, like myself, where really worried about you as you dropped off the radar so suddenly. As for you no longer being associated with this project, I hope you will reconsider that, as although it's Reginald's insane efforts that created Ivy, it's your incredible voice work gave Ivy her humanity. Personally I can't imagine Ivy without your voice, so much so I have not updated to 5.0 Ivy because I just don't want to loose your voice work with her. If you check the old blog pages (prior to Ivy 5.0 release) everyone, including Reginald, where hoping and praying you would return and rejoin the project (right up to the release), and from what I understand about FO4 mods it's not too late. No mater what you decide I am happy you are back and ok and I will always be grateful to you for your considerable work with Ivy 4.0.

Hey @Reginald_001

Reached level 200 with 212 mods, 400 hrs gameplay, so providing some late-game feedback:

COMBAT

- Ivy frequently passes directly in front of player while player is using automatic (HE) weapons. This did not happen with Ivy 4 and has now killed me MANY times on this playthrough.

- During combat Ivy sometimes return-teleports from HC to directly in front of player.

You can choose Ivy's Combat style in her configuration holotape. Different styles have different effects. You can also set her follow distance and teleport distances there.

DIALOGUE
Ivy's commentary on the many visual bugs and plot problems with Fallout is starting to wear a bit thin. It is enough to have to put up with it in game as well as being reminded of it by Ivy. It would be nice if Ivy could also provide some useful gameplay tips and hints, e.g. "Did you know if you drop weapons on the ground in a settlement and scrap them it will increase that settlement's build limit? Swords into ploughshares man!", or "Did you know if you type KAH in console you will Kill Ass Holes?" or make your own Lore: "I'm related to the RobCo StealthBots that automatically refill all those vending machines and safes and keep all those candles lit for the last 200 years..." I'm sure you have many useful gameplay tips and experience and jokes Ivy could share with us instead of immersion-breaking 4th-wall comments on the game we already know is a bucket of bugs.

Interesting! I see it the exact other way around. Ivy giving gameplay tips would break the 4th wall, Ivy realizing that she might be part of a virtual environment does not. ;)

And if you listen closely, you'll often hear her say things such as 'I'll need to check my visual cortex', meaning that she doesn't so much doubt her environment as that she doubts her own perception of it.

MULTIPLE COMPANIONS
Using EBF and UCF to recruit one extra companion at a time. Problems with Ivy 5.0, specifically with Dogmeat and Curie. Backtracked 20 hours of gameplay to the save before recruiting Curie as extra companion, and all was well.
Tried again some time after updating to Ivy 5.1 and completing her quests. So far Piper, Curie, Hancock, MacCready, Valkyrie, Sarah Owens, Gabriel McBride & Brutus, have all worked perfectly - recruiting, quests and dismissal. No effect noticed on Ivy or general gameplay.

You will have missed quest integration with those mods and likely some special features built into Ivy that require the base-game scripting, which is overriden by UCF. I have not used EBF, but Ivy is NOT supported in any way with multiple companion mods. ;)

OTHER
Just a bit disappointed that there is no interaction or commentary for Magnolia. I'm pretty sure Magnolia is the only non-faction romanceable character in the game and i swear Ivy and Magnolia are making eyes at each other all the time. Wishful thinking?

She currently has 7000 lines of dialogue, together with her quests and DLC (Ivy's DLC is not yet released). I could physically make her interject with hundreds of other small little scenes, but the problem is that I've already overwritten way to much vanilla quests, causing a lot of her content to be lost when players use big overhaul mods. Ivy really was designed for the vanilla Fallout 4 experience.

I'd love to add even more content, but the VA is already looking at the monstrous task of recording so many lines and Ivy already is a very, very, big mod that features a lot of quest interaction. To make all the interaction spread out across all different types of factions and players, I needed to 'spread out' across all lines of possibilities. And eventually the Magnolia scene lost out in this balance between performance, memory usage and what I wanted Ivy to be.

All the very best to you, and thanks forever for your version of Ivy!

Because its 5.1 released, I tried

found some conflict on IVY and armor extended(4.6).

You can ignore it, it's a keyword for 1 line of dialogue for Ivy, which is an Easter Egg to begin with. It will not interfere with the use of AE.

I totally understand where you're coming from on the VA part but 5.0's additions make her worth the upgrade. Ivy's quest line is phenomenal. IMO she is hands down the best follower/quest mod available on any beth game. Yeah she doesn't have ChicGeek's voice anymore but there is a LOT of other aspects of Ivy that make the 5.0 update worth it.

I can't tell you how torn I am between keeping Ivy 4.0, with ChicGeek's voice, and upgrading to Ivy 5.0. I followed the development of Ivy 5.0 on the old blog page and from that it is clear the improvements and upgrades are insanely good. I also feel that in some ways its a disservice to Reginald's phenomenal work on Ivy 5.0 to not upgrade but for me Ivy has only ever had ChicGeek's voice and in a way upgrading feels as if I would be loosing Ivy as I know her. Like Ellie in 'The Last of Us', and other similarly realist NPCs, you can become attached to them and I fear FO4 won't feel the same without ChicGeek's Ivy.

Sometimes between the stages of an AAF staged animation Ivy will unequip every single clothing item still worn (necklace and earrings usually) and re-equip her "Ivy's Sexy Dress" for the rest of the animation. When this happens, after the animation the necklace and earrings are not reequipped. Sometimes none of the original clothing/armor is reequipped and she remains in her Sexy Dress.  This doesn't happen with any other characters during AAF scenes or i would be asking this question on the AAF threads, and i was wondering if there was anything different with Ivy's clothing compared to other NPCs or companions?

Nope, nothing is different.

Reginald,

Absolutely in love with Ivy.  I will see if I can get a respectable screen to put on here, but I am using "Christine" preset from Nexus with red hair of medium length and Illusive Man cyber eyes.... She has a Nate tattoo from Misfit's Tattoos. I had her in a variety of clothing but currently is in a vault suit as I am running family planning and a host of very personal interaction mods from LL on here and she is the mother of my child!  I set it to keep morphs after birth so her chest is rather larger at the moment... :)

So for a bit she is in the non curve hiding but slightly less skin vault suit.

Questions/suggestions:

(Apologize if repeats, I thought I searched though)

1: Is there a way to have her recognize and comment appropriately on an AFF "interaction" (cough cough)

2: I am running her through Nuka World, and it would be nice to add lines about the Disciples there being either completely unrelated or an offshoot of her gang.

3: Similar to Atom Cats, Brotherhood, Institute etc and power armor in general, could or should she make additional comments about raiders while in Nuka World??  So far she has not for me.

She has been so much better this play through (last was 4. something with Chic Geek voicing) and her adorable self consciousness is great.  The entire process of how you deal with her "issues" and other things has been a vast improvement.  Thank you so much for her!

Indarello says that reverting to their default outfit is a common vanilla game problem with companions. So it's not Ivy's fault, sorry to bother you with that.  (But i was hoping she was better than them! ? )

Hah! :)

There's quite a few fixes in Ivy to overcome vanilla bugs, but in script it's difficult to see what she's wearing, and even more difficult to know what the player wants her to wear. In the end it's a simple matter of re-equiping her again. Though I've never encountered that bug before. It might be related to any mod which dresses/undresses her automatically for certain scenes, like CWSS or AAF.

Yes. But someone (not me) needs to make an AAF plugin for Ivy to do that. There's more than enough erotic lines to re-use for her during those scenes as well!

I am working on a big DLC addon for NukaWorld for Ivy, she will be 100% aware of the place, know about its history and will remark on quest progress, factions etc..etc.. she will also be an active part of the main Nuka World DLC quest.

1 - No not at this time, Ivy is for BASE game and adding these lines would force players to use other mods

2/3 - Nuka world is in the Works as we type, Yes the Disciples are an off shoot/splinter of "The Disciples of Mercy"

Looking forward to the Screen shots, We have a Channel dedicated to that on Ivy's Discord (Link in my signature)

For those of us who can't/won't log onto discord, which of Reginald_001's LoversLab threads is the best to post Ivy screenshots on?

the above is my G Rated newest incarnation of Ivy.   She was originally supposed to a clone of the woman the creator loved but was rejected.  She is not meant to look like a sexy pinup model, but a gorgeous institute researcher clone in a partial synth body.  She has Android Eyes but otherwise looks totally human.. imperfections and all.   and she is gorgeous in my humble opinion.  The base preset is Madison. My Christine incarnation with bright red hair, as well as Platinum Blonde look too perfect... so I opted for this one. Her body is the Fable Sunborn preset, modified to have larger breasts and booty. She has a belly button piercing and a couple tattoos.... Showing those is PG-13 to R rated so I opted to keep it clean.

Hope it meets with your all's collective approval...… She is a sexy sex-bot, but also deadly in Sirius armor and using her gun, a large sword and a prototype gauss.

absolutely a joy to play with. Oh, and yes that is Dogmeat in the background, as a White Wolf.  Terrific mod also.

Thanks so much
