I need some pointers to get started if you please

I'm in need of some pointers to get going as there are a lot of things I don't understand about the Skyrim adult mods.

First thing, are the adult mods for Sexlab found in the Sexlab forum, or are this forum specifically for the development of the framework itself?

Second, I only have the vanilla Skyrim, not any of the expansions. Will that be a problem?

Third, can anyone point me in the direction of a list of the adult mods available containing information on what exactly they add? I've been searching around, but have yet to find the information I'm looking for. That probably says more about my ability to find things than the availability of the information.

Lastly, what adult mods are considered essential. As in, not necessary for the mods to work, but rather considered universally compatible and adding stuff that are not necessarily restricted to a certain taste.

Probably gonna get slammed for this, but I'll take the risk. Anyways, thanks in advance if you reply to help :)

EDIT: Another thing I'm wondering is wether or not I can use the Nexus mod manager to install these mods. The guide posted tells me how to manually do it, partially, but some of the mods discourage me from doing it manually and recommend a mod manager.

So what manager is recommended for this? I thought the Nexus manager only dealt with mods on the Nexus, that it was built into the site or something. Probably a misunderstanding on my part.

it can be.

that depends on what your into

Well, for starters I'm absolutely not into beastiality. I do quite enjoy bondage stuff though.

Do any of the adult mods on here feature more clothing options, or is this forum only for sex positions?

Plenty.  Click the "Downloads" button top-right and browse around, you'll find lots of clothes.

And if you like bondage, I highly recommend Deviously Cursed Loot.   ;)  This will then require the following (copy/pasted from the DCL page):

SkyUI: http://www.nexusmods...rim/mods/3863/?

SexLab: http://www.loverslab...pdated-oct-3rd/

SexLab Aroused Redux: http://www.loverslab...-aroused-redux/

ZaZ Animations (http://www.loverslab...ack-2014-11-02/

HDT Physics Extensions: http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/53996/?

Devious Devices Assets version 3.0 or higher: http://www.loverslab...devices-assets/

Devious Devices Integration version 3.3 or higher: http://www.loverslab...ation-12092014/

Devious Devices Expansion version 2.0 or higher: http://www.loverslab...expansion-v116/

Fus Ro D'oh: http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/14884/?

FNIS version 6.3 or higher: http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/11811/? You need to run FNIS for Users after installing this mod!!!

XPMS Skeleton: http://www.loverslab...leton-extended/

Racemenu: http://www.nexusmods...m/mods/29624/?(if you really don't want it, you can also install just NiOverride, but you need one or the other)

CBBE/UUNP Bodyslide compatible body (either CBBE or UUNP): http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/49015/? (I HIGHLY recommend UUNP instead of CBBE, it's a much better looking body with more sliders and a greater level of outfit support.)

Thanks for replies and recommendations. I still wonder though, if some of these mods will impair me from playing the game and progress through the story. I already played the vanilla game when it came out, and I'm considering purchasing the expansions as well, but I'd rather not the mods prevent me from experiencing them because a random peasant forces me into BDSM gear or something.

By the way, how many animation packs can the game handle? I read that you can only pick a handful, though many of the animation packs don't have previews.

DCL is customizable, as is the difficulty of escaping devious devices.  I can say with certainty that you will, with experimentation, be able to find a balance that works for you.

As for animations, FNIS by default supports 8,000 if I remember correctly.  There's also a version on its download page that allows for 12,000 (though it comes at the cost of an increased chance of crashing when loading a save), and another version that supports even more animations (20,000 of them), but with an even further increased risk of crashing.

A slightly out of date listing of pretty much every mod that uses the Sexlab Framework:

http://www.loverslab.com/topic/19588-sexlab-index/

Broken down into broad categories though many of the mods span multiple categories and for details on each mod you need only click the link to the mod.

One item missing from the recommendations above is a male body replacer, there are two really good options and a lot of older less flexible options. Shape Atlas for Men is one option and is the most flexible as far as body shapes but since the author tends to be an ass it's harder to get a hold of a copy and harder for people to provide extensions. The other is Schlongs Of Skyrim which is available here (or in an out of date version from the Nexus) http://www.loverslab.com/topic/23944-sos-schlongs-of-skyrim/

On the female side, the only option worth mentioning is the Bodyslide mod which is required by Devious Devices bondage mods anyway (in the list of requirements posted already). I also vote for the UUNP body but do not be fooled, lots of people like the CBBE version better. Which one you like really depends on what looks more sexy to you. Either way there are a massive number of presets you can pick from and totally ignore all the customization sliders it provides or you can take a preset you like and tweak it a bit to match exactly what you'd like to see in your naked ladies.

Downloaded Bodyslide and Outfit studio, but I can't for the life of me find the UUNP download. Perhaps I misunderstood something and I have actually downloaded  everything I need, but I'd rather ask a question too much than risk messing everything up.

I've decided to try to make it work without the DLC. So speaking of taking a risk messing things up, I suppose I'm a bit of a hypocrite when money's involved. I just want to make sure it's worth the investment getting back into the game again.

EDIT: SKSE is now available on Steam, so I assume I won't have to follow that step in the installation process?

UUNP is an option within Bodyslide selected when you install it.

Could use some additional help though. Sorry for double posting.

The thing I'm wondering is wether or not I can use the Nexus mod manager to install these mods.

Mods can be installed manually if you know what you are doing, Mod Managers make it simpler by "knowing what they are doing" for you.

There are three mod managers, the most often used is Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) because it's provided by and integrates very well with the Nexus mods web site.

The least known and used Mod Manager (as a Mod Manager) is Wrye Bash but it is highly recommended that everyone download and use it to create a "Bashed Patch".

The third and best (IMO) Mod Manager is called "Mod Organizer", it does something the other managers don't do. It keeps the mod files completely separate from the game files and allows you to not only control which mod "wins" when there is a file conflict (same file updated by two or more mods) but also allows you to quickly change the winner and of course detects all those conflicts so you can easily see them. That comes at an increase in complexity (two lists of mods instead of one, left hand list is file level control while the right hand list is the game data level).

Regardless of which you chose (even manual installation) there are a lot of videos available on the web to guide you on how to work with them.

An additional tool you should also have in your arsenal is TES5EDIT which can be used to find and deal with game data level conflicts between mods as well as perform some basic mod cleaning which some mods (including the DLCs from Bethesda) need to have performed. Again there are tutorial videos on how to use TES5EDIT for that basic cleaning as well as for more complex siutations.

Okay, thanks for your reply. I'm going with Organizer then. So far it seems to be working fine with installing most mods, but for some reason it hits a snag with FNIS where it doesn't recognize it as a mod file. I'm googling it at the moment, but haven't been successful in finding a solution thus far.

What you need to do is right-click and choose "set as data" on the "data" folder on the popup. See screenshot for example with FNIS.

Also remember that when using MO, you need to add any tool you want to use (like fnis, save cleaner, tes5edit, bodyslide etc) as an executable and run them from within MO.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that if you're using classic skyrim, you'll want to be using version 1.x of MO.

Also, doesn't '1.x' mean any version between 1.0 and 1.9?

On the Nexus, the latest version is 1.3.11. I'm guessing that since you are telling me that, this version wouldn't work, so it's obvious that I've misunderstood something. I just don't know what.

Version 1.3.11 is the latest (therefore correct) version of MO for use with the older 32 bit version of Skyrim.

As a general rule of thumb, if the mod doesn't come with a menu driven installer I always choose the "Manual Install" option so I can make absolutely sure that MO knows the correct folder to use for DATA.

By 1.x I meant any version starting with a 1, as opposed to the ones starting with a 2 (for FO4 and skyrim special edition)

And in most cases, a version 1.4 (or 1.9) would be seen as more recent than 1.3.11.

Oh, I wasn't aware there were versions higher than 1.3 available. That explains that.

Although I've been made aware in my other topic in Tech support (decided to start a topic there right after updating this one. Thought about letting this one die as It technically doesn't belong here, but there were replies before I could fix that) that I'd have to invest money in programs in order to use these mods without the DLCs, so I suppose I'd rather invest in the DLCs at some point.

I'm also considering waiting for Vortex to get released as the Mod Organizer is apparently very slow, but for the time being I'm just reading around to find out if there is an ETA on it.

I gotta compliment the community here though. Often when I ask for help similarly I get told to 'Use the search function' or similarly. I did that, but sometimes I don't know the right questions to ask, or I don't understand the answers. Everyone here has been extremely helpful, and I highly appreciate that.

There shouldn't be anything you would need to spend money on (other than the dlc), so I'm not sure where that comes from.

As for Vortex, I don't think there's any known date for when that would become available, so I wouldn't wait for that.

Well, one of the replies said "Pick out the mods you want, get yourself a copy of LOOT, add it to MO's tool list, run it, and then buy whatever it says you need."

http://www.loverslab.com/topic/85383-mod-manager-organizer/

(EDIT: There was just a new reply. Turns out that was a misunderstanding, and they referred to the DLC and not other programs)

Also, if I go with Mod Organizer, and switch to Vortex once it comes out, is there any knowledge about wether or not we'd be able to continue on our previous save, or will the different managers make the saves incompatible?

Probably too early to tell, but you all know more about this than I do.

Saves should be fine as long as you use the same mods, in the same order.

There's a Mod Organizer 2 project (MO2) which was started by Tannin but handed off when he hired on with Nexus to build the replacement for Nexus Mod Mangler.

He's already stated that it won't do the nice keep all the mods separate thing that is the best feature of Mod Organizer so I have little interest in it. MO2 is 64 bit and therefore useful for Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 but not so good with Skyrim LE but since there's nothing really wrong with MO 1.3.11 for Skyrim LE that's ok. MO is a little slower starting up but not significantly so and once into the game there is no performance penalty. Since Vortex will be doing LESS than MO has to do they are making that claim but until they have a released product all such claims are just marketing flatulence.

For MO: notice that it's harder to get started, that's the price you pay for easier error handling in the long run. I also recommend it, though, and the first link in my sig is an (old, should still be fine) collection of tutorials how to get started with MO and adult mods and their requirements.

For your other questions:

Not all, but a lot of mods require the DLCs... i really can't remember which do, possibly my recommendations won't work without them.

The download section in general may indeed be a bit confusing, in http://www.loverslab.com/forum/51-downloads-sexlab-framework/ are a lot of useful adult mods and in http://www.loverslab.com/forum/37-downloads-skyrim-adult-sex-mods/ too. I think it's meant as one section requires Sexlab, the general adult section doesn't. Not really sure if every modder kept this order, i recommend to check both. ;)

- matchmaker. Adds a spell to start sex. Very unimmersive, but very good for testing if things work.

- Apropos. Adds comments during sex and includes a wear & tear system.

- Get Stripped! Again!. It's what i'd consider a "basic quest mod". Shouldn't conflict with anything, it's funny, one playthrough is rather short but it has a lot of different endings. High replay value.

If you don't want to be bound in the middle of a dungeon i'd rather not use cursed loot... it has a lot of options and other features, but personally i hesitate to disable the core functions of a mod even if it allows to do that. ;)

For female characters i'd rather use Captured Dreams or Shout like a Virgin, both are meant to be played in a longer playthrough. Which is something i would not recommend if you start with adult mods, though.

Essentially the point is that Skyrim bakes all kind of stuff into your save, a new game is often the easiest way to fix them. Be it a mod you tried and don't like (anymore), broken scripts which can happen especially without experience how much/which mod combinations your system can run, etc.

So what i'd recommend is: install a bunch of mods, everything that sounds like you might want it. Well, maybe not too much at once, but don't be too hesitating. Start a new game with them, try them, see if they work in general and in this combination. Sort out what you don't like, maybe replace it with a similar mod and try again with a new game. Once you found a combination you like, play a little longer. Most likely you've encountered several problems at this point, but don't give up here, read here if there are known solutions to those problems.

And then when you finally have a combination you'd like to play & you know how to run this combi stable, you can plan a longer playthrough. Imho it's less frustrating if you have to drop a save that was meant for testing only in the first place. ;)

I am going to expand a little on something Nazzzgul666 said

install several mods that sound like something you would enjoy playing:

is prostitution your thing?? player only?? npc only?? both?? player pimping npcs??? npcs pimping player???

is slavery something you want to see in your game?? player as slave??? player as slave owner??? both???

is pregnancy something you want in game??? with children (from the pregnancy)?? other things from being pregnant???

anti death mod?? bad stuff in place of death?? just able to mostly continue with minor stuff happening when you lose a fight??

do you want mods that let you have a follower with you all the time?? some of the time? almost never??

is lactation a particular thing you want to see in game ?? player leaking milk??  npcs leaking milk??

there are mods that can do any of those things (most are right here on LL, and some more are available on nexus for some of those things).

make a list for 4-6 different things you want to see in game ..and install 1-2 mods for each thing on the list so that you can try them out and find which is the best fit

for your personal playstyle (and system capabilities).
