landess Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I hope I'm the last person to find out about this and start using it. In case I'm wrong I wanted to share my experience. I recently started getting a stutter in my game - the type where everything freezes for several seconds, then runs for several seconds over and over.... grrrr. After doing the usual search and destroy with my browser I found a few things I hadn't come across before. One suggestion was to remove the important files from the documents location (after saving the entire folder somewhere safe) and deleting everything, then replacing those files and allow the game to fill in the blanks just like the Caches we all remove. I did this without incident, although I did place my screenshots and custom music back in as well. Another suggestion led me to Kuree's save cleaner V2. I figured this was an all in one application that basically did the same thing as using S3PE to clean SNAPS from your saves. While I knew about the issue with files being duplicated when traveling, I had no idea that the SIMS3 saved every change you ever made while in CAS/CASt. While the author mentioned they didn't understand why a Snap was made during this time, I realized it has to do with the 'undo' feature, but it never gets removed - wtf EA, seriously? Anyways.... I used it to clean each save file I had (back ups made of course) and was amazed at the amount of junk that was removed. An average of 75% file size reduction was seen. Small saves were much less - 68mb to 35mb or so, but my long played worlds where I switch households and kept playing were ridiculous. 800+mb saves were dropped to around 250, and the majority of them were around 350mb to 65/85mb. This was insane and eye opening. I admit I spend way more time dragging sims into CAS because the game is very indiscriminate about dressing sims and even if I properly used the blacklist feature, it still looks like their mom dressed them. In closing I just wanted to say if you haven't tried this yet and find your savefiles growing out of control, this may be your answer. Loss of some custom artwork/pictures are an issue, but the author has suggestions to keep them and get them back into the played household. The one thing I noticed was returning to CAS (I'm an addict, I know) sims3pack thumbnails remained, but the game had to reload all the .package file thumbnails. This must also be part of the bloat, but occasional cleaning will now be part of my mantra.
maksym.dickson Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Thank you. I remember this tool helped to reduce size of my save file after travelling to another Sims 3 town via Nraas Traveller. I didn't know that editing CAS could add more size to save file, I thought all custom styles go to: "userPresets.package" (resides in the same place where cache files, but shouldn't be deleted, otherwise all custom styles will be lost)
wapitawg Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 How does it compare to "Clear cache" function in CC Magic?
landess Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 I don't know enough about CC Magic to even make an uneducated guess. I did a search for using both but found nothing significant. The reason I brought this up was the info about hidden bloat due to using the CAS and CASt. Most are aware of the duplication of files after traveling using world adventures but the fact that EA does not scrub the temp files created to 'undo' things is simply crazy. Save cleaner will fix that as could be done manually using S3PE. I use CAS/CASt way too much and my savefiles reflected this. Noticeable especially after I used this application the very first time.
wapitawg Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 I found the answer to my question by myself. Turned out that CC Magic clears only cache that it creates itself, no save’s cache or anything like that. So it’s good to use save cleaner even with CC Magic (which I’d recommend to everybody). It shrinked my files by 51%, yay.
landess Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 Thanks for adding that info to this post: Sounds like CC Magic went the route of unobtrusive and I can applaud that. 51% is a decent reduction size, while mine were a bit more, every little bit helps.

How do I get get rid of the duplicate files after travelling? also, I tried to use the save cleaner and got stuck. There was no way I could see to load the save file into the program - or is that not how it works? any help would be awesome. My game is lagging something chronic.

The program should have it's files in the Sims 3 folder where all other folders and error files are kept. Just running the .exe brings up a dialog box with all the saves listed for you to choose. http://www.simlogical.com/ContentUploadsRemote/uploads/1532/ Make sure you have all the required files. I know this is a year late, but forgot to put notifications on....
merctime Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Hey, I keep getting some sort of script error with this program when I try and use it, although my Windows tells me I do have the net framework necessary for it... Or a newer one. I even tried to just install the .40 version that his site says is necessary, and have installed this as you show in your above picture. Now, I can create backup saves by navigating to my save folder, but when I hit continue upon using this program, I get a blank section when it opens instead of the graphics you show in your pic here, that state your save names etc. Maybe I'm just using it wrong? Here's what it looks like, even installed in my game folder inside documents: Maybe this is because I'm an Origin user??? Anyways, here's what my error messages show: And then this: Here's what the error says: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. Damn shame, I'd LOVE to get this program to work! Anyone have any insight to this?
landess Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 5 hours ago, merctime said: any insight to this? I guess it's always best to start at the beginning..... Is the program in the correct place? All the files should be here. Hopefully this is it because if they are in this location AND you used the same version as I - then the problem may lie outside my ability to troubleshoot. I could go over each variable, version/build/patch level of the game and affecting mods(?). File structures... I'm not sure at that point. Since you can see my files - also compare file sizes. There are many ways to troubleshoot, and little clues can help. Also: Since I don't use Origin or Steam for the Sims 3 - is your documents folder info in the same place as my address bar shows? The saves are in the same location, so it's not like the save cleaner has to look elsewhere. >>>>>>> rereading and checking your post: I never used the backup feature - I have NRaas saver plug-in, which gives me 4 rotating saves every 1/2 hour real time and I just clean the newest one after I quit the game. Never had a problem or a need to use an older save, but am glad to know they are there. Do you have selections in the window before you 'back-up'?

Have this save cleaner installed since long too and use it sometimes. Work well..... Have all CD version installed and is patched to ver 1.67. and it works on XP and win 7. Downloaded it from MTS I think. Remember dark, that I had also trouble with newer version. It did simply not work for me. Went back to the next lower version . This work very well. AND, I have this installed on a completely different location, even on a different hard drive in my PC. This cleaner looks instantly to the right place where the sims save files are located. In earlier screen shoots too I saw that you have this installed in the sims 3 folder and I always wondered why ! The only thing I see, sometimes there is no picture shown for the save file. But has no influence on the function. Just had a look, my Save_Cleaner.exe is dated at 14.06.2013 08:24. The headline says Save Cleaner V2 By Kuree, the same as in your screen shot above. So, something seems wrong here. Would recommend to go back to MTS to look if different versions still available there. Backup Save function I also never ever used and it was not necessary in all these years.
