Note XPMSE at the bottom of the image. Click on the green (or red) lightning bolt.

My XPMSE mod just has the white rules icon. I know what you're talking about with the green or red lightning bolts, but I can't get XPMSE to let me assign rules to it.

That just means that no other mods are trying to install the same files as XPMSE.

Try reinstalling and selecting these options:

XPMSEinstall.rar

Your best option at this stage is to uninstall all your mods and re-add them a few at a time, testing as you go. Use Alternate Start Live Another Life just to make things easier for yourself.

You could have look at this to see if you missed anything:

I was really hoping that would work. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and did every option like your guide, except the last one, nothing comes up about overwriting existing files with my mod list.

Also, my game crashes when fast traveling to or walking to Dawnstar. It was the only city I hadn't checked, since 7 of the other 8 were working.

Thanks for the help so far, I appreciate it quite a bit.

I checked out the conglomerate article - nothing sticks out to me, but half of it is over my head

I found my load order, this may help tell what mod conflicts I have

I know XPMSE is supposed to be the last one loaded, and every time I open skyrim I hit the "data files" option and manually move it down to the bottom before starting the game. And the I start FNIS. But LOOT won't let me manually move it, so I have to do that every time I open the game. Not that it's made a difference either way.

I've just found the easy way of getting to the plug-in list with Vortex

Vortex would tell you if there was a conflict - that's what the lightning bolt is about.

It doesn't have to be the last one loaded. It only has to load after anything else that is trying to use the same files (except for e.g. MNC).

You don't need the standalone LOOT as Vortex's 'autosort' is LOOT. Unless you turn off autosort it will always overrule the standalone LOOT. In order to manually order mods with Vortex, you have to drag that icon which is to the left of the lightning bolt.

At this point I would recommend you start from scratch and follow the Conglomerate guide. You only have about 30 mods installed at the minute (I've got more than 10 times that) so it isn't a massive blow. If nothing else you will be fairly confidant that your game is stable when you start loading it down with mods.

I suppose nuking from orbit is the last, best hope. I'll get started tomorrow.

I really appreciate the time you've spend helping some random dude on a niche issue.

No problem. Any questions about anything on the Conglomerate guide, just ask.

Just for the sake of closure, I've fixed the issue. Deleted and reinstalled skyrim and skse, re-downloaded the mods, and they're working just fine.

The additional hairstyles added by one of them aren't showing up at all; probably the ones from racemenu, and I'm stuck with vanilla hair. But maybe that was the problem the whole time, who knows. Im not going to risk it.

Thanks for the help guys, especially GreyCloud.

If you have a problem then fix it. Which hair mod is it and what is it not doing?
