The game could be buggy on the mini-game for you, but just in case, are you waiting for the feather to suddenly drop or flatten? You have to wait until that happens before "hooking it up" to then reel in a fish.

I managed to catch a small fish after reading the mini-game instruction again. BTW, does any npc mention or reference silentwood to the heroine after leaving the village?

Not that I know of at this time, but the Final Version of the mod will almost certainly link any pregnancy to possible fathers in Silentwood
