This problem seems to be compounded when a save is made and they have not yet docked their houseboat - leaving it out in the water without a proper port for pathing Sims under the games control unlike the players. I usually end up adding new ones to whatever room my sims get frisky in. My current household has a ton around each bed in every bedroom, a bunch peppered around the living room, and several surrounding the outdoor bench in the backyard. I usually place one directly between the camera and the action, and then angle one on each side off that, to fill in sharp shadows. I don't feel like waiting a half hour for my game to load (boo!) to get some screenshots, but they are pretty similar to what you showed. Enjoy the results of some previous screenshots using this method. Here, there is a light panel just off the foot of the bed, and then one at a 45 degree angle to each side, for a total of three panels. I can't remember if I have one above them, too. Also, FYI, there are two different types of overhead panels. One of them provides artificial light, like seen here. The other is a "daylight" panel. It only works during the daytime, and it provides light with the same quality as outdoor light from the sun. I've used that before in a room that had "skylights" in it, but was pretty dim. Adding that made them give pretty good light during the daytime. 4
