DoctaSax Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Â - A system of giving up children or choosing children for adoption. Is there a system in-game I can pirate for that or do I need to make one from scratch? Would a modified slavery system of some kind work? Â Â Can't really point to anything in particular that I know you can simply hook into. Sexout Slavery might have some stuff you can use. From the documentation in that thread's op' date=' it looks geared toward enslaving the player, but you want to look at the code a bit, get some ideas. The same goes for anything else in terms of slavery, or other mods that are big on AI. But I do think you'll have to put your own thing together. Â At the very least, you'd have to set up a sandbox package for the kids. Which also handles eating and sleeping, iirc, although if you want to make life there look a bit more organized you could set up separate eating & sleeping packages so they all do it at the same time. Maybe if you care about their education you plunk in some school desks & have them sit at them during certain times of the day with a "use item at" package. Also make something separate for the directors - a patrol package maybe, showing they're keeping an eye on things rather than just lounging around, definitely a separate sleeping package that steers them to beds of their own Lots of exciting stuff you can do with sandbox & patrol packages once you've got the basics set up & are at leisure to add some atmos, maybe with a few idle markers - I can already imagine the directors walking about, stopping occasionally to berate the kids: "no running with scissors!" Â One of the biggest challenges will be handling the change for when you drop 'em off, or adopt somebody, which means changing between the sandbox & the follow package with AddScriptPackage. The command works well, but I wouldn't rely on it for running the transitions between the regular packages (sb, eat, sleep) of your entire population. Â Your best bet would be spawning some generic kids from a levelled list with sandbox, eat, sleep & whatever else already added to them in the geck. The kid you drop off by addscriptpackaging the sandbox package might stand out a bit because he/she doesn't have the others, but it's only natural the new kid stands out. Besides, you will have to make some kids disappear after a certain cut-off point to avoid overcrowding and lag, so I would suggest your own to disappear first. Â As to adopting one, it's a toss-up between adding a follow package, perhaps the same Halstrom uses when you get a kid the old-fashioned way, using the vanilla companion stuff, or a companion system mod. Can't really advise you there - maybe have a look at how Loogie adds Sunny Smiles as a companion. Â This may sound like a lot of work - and it is at first when you're still trying to get your bearings - but if you take it one step at a time, it could be very rewarding work seeing the place come to life.
Guest user29 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 As for actually giving up the kids up for adoption you're probably going to have to write some scrips that first check for the kids, then if there is a kid, remove it. My brain is currently working on it as well because I need a way to remove bighorners from the players followers and give them to the farmer. KainsChylde Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Holy Weeping Creeping Christ that's a lot of functions.
Halstrom Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 One thing you may hit a wall with, I'm not sure if there's anyway for the system to pic one CaucasianMale Offspring from any others of the same type etc.

Will it differentiate between "male Caucasian child" and Bobby Kainspawn? (First name that came to mind)

(First name that came to mind) That may work ok, I believe there is a way to change names of NPC's via script, There's a mod called BabyDeathClawNV or similar on Nexus that allocates different names to offspring, I've been meaning to hack it and make it work for Sexout Offspring one day.
KainsChylde Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Honestly this is all way ahead of where I am just yet. I'm still learning how to make npcs and align them with factions. Â It seems that the "easy" stuff is getting harder daily.

Ah, but you said it yourself, the "hard stuff" you did a month ago is now easy, you're still learning and like all of us will keep learning, to stop learning is to give up & die
KainsChylde Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Life can be a pain sometimes. Due to IRL issues too long and personal to get into, this idea is on indefinite hold. If anyone wants to pick up what little I've got in the OP and run with it you're more than welcome. Between my limited knowledge of GECK and my limited time to learn more, I just can't go any farther with this. Sorry guys.
KainsChylde Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 So life has settled and I'm picking this idea up again. Found a nice out-of-the way location that I'm gonna shift to, and Hal has added some stuff to Pregnancy that will facilitate the concept. May start a new thread depending how much this mutates.

Can we come back and visit or unwanted pregnancies as they mature?
KainsChylde Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 That's still up in the air. I still have a lot to learn before this becomes anything other than an idea. Â My ultimate goal will be a fully functioning orphanage where kids can be left, picked up, grow and learn, etc. Well, as fully functional as the game allows anyway. But for now, a proof-of-concept would be a good start.
Halstrom Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Uploading the Babies now in SCR & DataPack Update (I couldn't work out how to access the BSA files so extracted them). Â They are just Misc Inventory items with the world Model, theyshould turn into Pregnancy kids after around 50 days dependant on the Growthspeed setting in MCM, then the kids turn into adults as usual. Â I'll set up Pregnancy to use them just with Caucasian first as a test.
KainsChylde Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Establishing a location for now. The old one has been abandoned for a nice new place I found while exploring in-game. It is a similar building to the original though, and I'm stuck between a couple of interiors to use for the main floor of the main building. I'm leaning toward option 2 if for no other reason than I don't have to add bathrooms from scratch. What do you guys think?
TheLordofMist Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 I like option 2 as well... moreso because I think the front desk, door, and stairs up to the next floor all being in the same room is quite convenient. Also, it does have the bathrooms already there for you, and I too find bathroom-building to be a bit of a pain. Â [edit:] Looking back, now, I see that both options have the consolidated 'front room' design. I still like Option 2 more, though, what with having slightly more space.
KainsChylde Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Good point on the extra space. Looks like I've found a keeper.
drgonzo915 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 This looks and sounds great. I am of absolutely no technical assistance. None, zero, zip, nada. But if needed I will download the GECK and curse at it if someone feels it will help.
