JayJay187 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 In time I think so, hell I mean, with the recent work from some creators/developers, I think it's up there already. Let alone in a couple more months time.
Khlas Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Will it finally surpass sims 3? Definitely not. Sims 4 is still garbage to be honest.
Afro68 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 This thread will be purely subjective with fanboys and fangirls each saying why Sims 3 is better and why Sims 4 is better. For me I'll take Sims 4 for the simple fact that it takes full advantage of my hardware and so far not laggy at all. I'm not butt hurt by the fact of no open world. I'm not a hardcore Sims player based on the fact it doesn't get installed until there is kink, that's how I view the Sims games. It falls into the category of no sex mods no hdd space on Ninja Ninja but that's just me and how I view things when it comes to Sims games. I loved the kink in Sims 2 but it was time to move on, I loved the kink in Sims 3 but for me it was time to move on. I truly hope when you started this thread you weren't trolling the Sims players for a flame war between Sims 3 and Sims 4. I don't think there's ever a surpass, people play what they like playing for whatever reason. I've liked 2, 3 and so far 4. To some Sims 4 is the worst thing EA ever made to others they truly like it. Just respect why people prefer one over the other and don't start the bullshit when some people say they like one over the other. Now I have some Division Dark Zone to get to....

Lol its not a troll thread. Just interested in opinions now that we're getting somewhere in as u say "kink". I know a lot of ppl weren't even looking at 4 at all cause of the lack of anything like we're starting to get now. Personally I think 4 has good potential to be up there with 3 and 2. Ea really just needs to release more solid expansions. Heard city life or something is next. They need to get more innovative imo. Some of the shit is too predictable at this point. Get together was a good EP hopefully the next 1 is up to that standard or better. Oh and I feel you on the optimization of sims 3 aka none. If you have lots of cc you're well and truly fucked. Kinky world seemed to fuck my world up bad too. To be able to run it I had to remove kinky, use passion which imo is really good and keep cc to a minimum. Plus a small world and a bunch of NRAAS mods and it doesn't lag now. It's a lot of work tho.
Eksclusiv Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I dunno. It's still a matter of taste if you are honest. I pity those who feel the urge to make certain things worse/look bad just for the purposes of showing how good/great other things are. But whatever. My opinion: After Get Together Sims 4 has finally become way better than Sims 3 with all its EPs and 5-6 years of mod development combined. And it can only get much better at this point which is great! A bright future is ahead of us! Especially with the new EP coming (still hoping for City Life). Edit: And even if Sims 3 ran 100% smoothly on my glorified toaster with all the content released to this day I would still consider it as the inferior gaming experience.
Santr Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Animations are only the tip of the development iceberg, compared to coding and bug-stomping all the interaction/situation stuff, which is the real meat of these mods. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't dream of trying to downplay the animators' work (which has been top notch) and I welcome that we're finally moving on to S4, but I suspect it's still going to be a while before we get something akin to Kinky World.
EsperMagicite Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 to toxic of a thread to create. there are people with thousands of hours and modding into sims 3 who fear change and having to do it again. they of course will bash it. Then you have the Sims 4 players who are starting to get neat mods finally, they will feel it will surpass it. they are games people will like what they like. Personally I enjoy Sims 4 as my pc runs it smoothly on HQ mode, Sims 3 was studdery and jerky on my PC and took ages to load up, even with minimal mods.

The forum software most likely really needs to be upgraded but people get out the pitchforks and torches because that means change. I feel bad for Ashal and his crew as it doesn't work each time they try but it needs to be done. I guess I'm a different breed as though I'm not someone who makes mods but I think there isn't anyone who comes here that had a more modded Sims 3 than me and I changed to Sims 4.
Fleurra Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 OKW which is the main TS3 mod for Loverslab users hasn't got an update for a year now and is patreon exclusive at this point while WickedWoohoo is continuously getting updated. At this pace TS4 will definitely surpass TS3 modding.
mungo10 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Will it finally surpass sims 3? if the modder and entertainers continue as hitherto certainly in a few months finally away from the ruckel sims3
Swiftstep Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 The SIms 3 adult mods I've seen so far (and I didn't pay that much attention, I must confess) looked stable and well done, but not as shiny as Skyrim mods. Now that Sims 4 is out, and possibly with an active modding scene, I think it's gonna hit the scene like a punch in the nuts. It creates a wonderful "comic look" (I humbly call it that), with great animations and settings. So, in time, I guess the games will have a relation to each other like Oblivion and Skyrim have right now: both are being supported, but the masses will tend to the prettier one. And as for the Sims 4 and actually getting the game: the price on amazon is constantly changing... saturday it was at 35 bucks, yesteray and 50, now and 45... god damn it. Cheapest way seems to be an Origin purchase.
Khlas Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Even from a sex mod community perspective, the lack of some bones/tongues and such things is awful.

I don't know if it will surpass OKW but WW is currently also basically patreon exclusive right now as even tho it's being updated, only patreon sponsors have access to said updates. A lot of people are excited about the mod but a lot of people are also wary about the direction it's headed, in any event, it will be a while before sims 4 modding surpasses sims 3 modding, should it even ever do so.

We can quit with the patreon gripes. It's going to be addressed. http://www.loverslab.com/topic/65995-perhaps-its-time-for-ll-to-implement-some-patreon-policies/?p=1650659

I understand your point and what you're trying to say, I'm also not trying to put this mod up there with OKW in that sense just yet. But the fact remains that at this point in time the mod is more or less patreon exclusive. I know what the mod author claims, I've also seen that thread and it honestly doesn't do much to pacify my thoughts that this mod is def going the way OKW went and it's starting out early. The author can claim it's all for "bug purposes" or however he wants to word it, but the mod is basically in alpha and it will have bugs, period. The most updated version has bugs, guaranteed. Full blown games, not mods, that have taken years of professional development with multiple teams and extensive testing have been released with bugs. Thus anybody with a working brain should understand that this mod made by an ametuer/nonprofessional (not trying to diminish the talent/skill just pointing out the differences in resources) that has only been released for a month, if that, will have bugs. You should download the mod knowing it has bugs. To say that the reason for not releasing an update is because of bugs just doesn't cut it. I've counted 5 or so updates since the initial release, none have been public. Honestly, he could released on older update once he made a newer one, such as the public being an update or two behind patreon, but he didn't go that route. So yes, while I understand what you're saying and that the "issue will be addressed." I remain unconvinced. Actions speak louder than words and the authors current actions are not community friendly, thus we'll see what happens. Even if all concerns turn out to be unwarranted, it's still hard to say whether sims 4 modding will surpass sims 3 modding as a lot of people still genuinely do not like sims 4. Sex isn't going to change that. Maybe it the new ep is the metropolis one, and it adds sims 3 style gameplay, A.K.A an open world, people might begin to change their minds. But the success of sims 4 modding falls heavily on the success of the game in general, which isn't doing all that well right now.

It probably won't get to that point as the LL higher ups are already discussing how patreon should be handled and we don't don't need to keep bringing it up unless you want to voice your concerns to Ashal in a pm on how you feel it should be handled to give the Admins on LL input. but that wasn't what this thread is about and for me I'm willing to give Turbo the benefit of the doubt since we're barely a month or so into this and people seem to be jumping on him for what has happened with OKW which isn't fair either. But you're entitled to your thoughts and we'll agree to disagree....
Eksclusiv Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 When it comes to modding IMO both extreme views have its legit points: Buy to play vs. free to play. However, a good compromise would be to introduce an Early Access model for donators just as Turbodriver did with WickedWoohoo. As a resulut the modder would still have enough resources they can spend on their work (more resources --> higher productivity --> faster/better updates) and those who can't afford the mod (sorry, but this is just ridiculous and only applies to a few people if at all since (pc) gaming has always been an EXPENSIVE hobby) would still get it for free at a certain point in time. Everybody wins. Edit: And 2-3 months before free release is a good time period. Of course KinkyWorld is a negative example and very questionable but since I don't care for Sims 3 anymore I don't care what he is doing with his project. If I still was playing the game of course I would have become a patreon.
haisims Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 maybe it's offtopic and maybe it's a silly question, if so I'm sorry. I like the woohoo-animations on loverslab very much - in fact they were the reason I joined here - but they look sometimes a bit artificial and repetitive. I can imagine that it's a lot of work to generate animations manually. So I wondered wether anyone tried to do more realistic animations via a camera or kinect and a motion capture software and integrate them in Sims?

Please keep in mind that this mod is a month old and the majority of the animations have just been released within the past week or two. Considering the newness of the mod and subsequent animations, things have been moving along quite well and the mod as well as animations will only improve in time. Be patient.

I can imagine that it's a lot of work to generate animations manually. So I wondered wether anyone tried to do more realistic animations via a camera or kinect and a motion capture software and integrate them in Sims? I am afraid it won't work as you would expect. In Sims 4 the rig (at least right now) is not very flexible + quite limited (it's nearly impossible to work with supporting/helping bones or integrate them at all as far as I know) and therefore every frame needs to be hand-crafted by the creator. I dunno, I, myself enjoy short and very intimate animations and that's where I am aiming at when I create them. They might be 'repetetive' but I guess that's how I play my game. I love to jump into tab mode and enjoy how my sims share these little, sometimes romantic moments I create for 2-4 seconds over and over again.
haisims Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Please don't misunderstand me, I didn't want to complain - as I already said I'm very impressed by the animations and do enjoy them very much and am looking forward to the developments in the future. :-) This mocap was just an idea that struck my mind. But your post, eksclusiv, answers my question. Without the restrictions I would have experimented a bit with mocap maybe as I do not have any experience with animation... Just thought the idea being fascinating. ;-)

If you look back at when XTC released his mod for Sims 3 and those animations compared to when Kicker released his mod and the animations that followed to KW and Passion followed by the animations(namely Mike24, Amra72 and Lady666 or L666) there was a big jump in how they looked.
