That's a flex if I've ever seen one.  Imagine: Someone who's so into improving themselves for them that they intentionally throw something in the picture that a lot of people will hate on.  That's a big 'fuck you!' to all the potential haters - and you get to figure out who's actually impressed of your accomplishments/dedication, and who is just going to zero in on your off the wall interest.  Weed out the junk level humanity really quickly.  Good move.

Life's too short to worry about what other people think of your harmless interests.
