How do I check if an ENB is working as intended?

Hello guys, I know that probably this is a strange question for many of you but since I never used them I'm not familiar with the effects they should give while installed. Let me explain it better, I do feel that the ENBs i'm installing don't look as they should. Sometimes it's easy to tell because they do miss the DOF( the only ENB effect i can recognize) but other times they do look completely different from video showcases and screenshots. Is there a way to check if they are working correctly? Thanks in advance for help

All the recent ENB's flash up a message in the top left corner just after the beth logo

In-game if you do Shift + enter it opens the ENB configuration and you can see what is turned on/off, shift + f12 also toggles the stuff under "use effect"

Would help if you said which ENB version you are using (mine is the 0.305 one) and which ENB preset (there is a comparison of dif presets in this thread http://www.loverslab.com/topic/40485-enb-comparison-shots-20/) if you haven't installed one

Thanks for answers! Yes I do get a message in the top left corner of the screen when the game is initialized and I can deactivate/activate the ENB just fine using the ENB menu. I do use the 0.279 binary. The ENB I tested are: unbleak, somber 3, popuori, northern light and southern light

Some people on the steam forum suggested to erase every enb i have and just download the newest binary to check if disabling/enabling effects have any effect on the game, is that a good idea? Or maybe older ENBs are just not compatible with newer binaries, is that possible?

Should be fine to use the newer binaries and I suggest you do, old binaries wont be compatible with newer ENB's but newer binaries should always be compatible with old (still depends on the enb though, they usually say not compatible with x.x.x or so). Not to mention they'll have fixes, new features etc.

Are you trying to run all those at once or what? What are you trying to do, just test to see if ENB works?

If you find one that works, then there's a good chance any other one you try will work, unless you need to grab some extra mods for it. Just find one you like and stick with it, make changes to suit your taste and hardware. If you want to test to see if it's actually doing something, uncheck the "use effect" tick, press save then apply. Pretty sure you'll see a difference.

If it's fine to use newer binaries than I really don't get why some ENBs don't work at all. Let's do an example here; I'm trying to make a K enb work on my pc. Some effects are loaded into the game and in fact when I do uncheck the "use effect" button something is different but it doesn't look how it should; to confirm this theory I have, I can add that my framerate is stable at 60 fps too, which should be impossible considering my setup and the requirements of that ENB and lastly it looks like vanilla

It depends what the preset requires, if a preset says to use 0.272 (which isn't available anymore) using 0.292 or 0.305 should be okay but if you've found one that is asking to use 0.119 which has been kept available then you should use that one as the preset author would have a reason for using that one and the ENB author must have a reason for keeping the older ones available on his site

As they have been developed the lines we have to add/remove/change in enblocal.ini have also changed over time as well

Do older binaries work with newer preset as well? Anyways I tryed everything but poupori, northern light and southern light don't work at all when I use them, since most of the features are not functional somehow

Older binaries usually do not work with ENBs that have been made alongside newer binaries.

Ok I see, thanks for answer. Is there a reason then why these ENBs are not working then?

What card have you got?

970 g1

Check enblocal if the setting is wrong it will not allow you to use shift + enter. when you open skyrim.

I don't think that the setting is wrong, I can open the ENB menu with shift+enter just fine

There's a lot of problems with windows 10, that's why I'm staying on windows 7 for a while longer.

But unless you know that you get the same issue, it's always worth giving it a try, Just keep the old driver installer somewhere as a backup.

Sorry if I ask but where is the folder where they are stored and how do I make a clean install?

When you custom install a Nvidia driver it asks if you want to do a clean install. Little checkbox on the bottom left.

Older drivers aren't stored on your computron, you'll have to look on the Nvidia website, luckily they make it easy. Just put in the fields and look for the one you've got.

Just checked now. Somehow they miss the drivers I am using?
