I'll be honest with this: his setup is too messy, unrealistic and costly, and putting SSDs in RAID configuration isn't a wise move without a proper backup. Unless he intends to play the game with a huge-ass 60" TV hooked up or deciding to challenge the screenshot lords at Dead End Thrills, I'd say fucking nuts.

the weird thing to me is powering 4 gpu's (2 X R9-295X2) cards on a 650W PSU. along with everything else. unless it's somehow rated for it and has 4 dedicated PCI power connectors.

 

He could use R9 390s for better performance, and an i5 to go with, then a single 250gb SSD, a fat 2tb WD Black and a backup solution... Hell, he could also grab a Skylake or about anything above 128-bit that can potentially knock off bottlenecks.

 

But then from what he's aiming for, this purpose-built rig is more like a Evel Knievel gap-jumping stunt that can only be performed for one time.

He has no idea what he's doing.            

 

1. AMD isn't going to support that, at all, any version, either CPU or GPU. If he stuck to 4K@4K, he'd be fine.

 

Also 8K displays aren't a thing unless he plans on picking up a medical monitor at 50K a pop, so he's gonna have a giant bar in the center of his screen unless he gets three monitors, in which case, giant bars anyway.

 

2. The Ti can manage 4K@4K BARELY, you're gonna be hitting 5.7 gigs at 5 ugrids with a complete 4 K loadout, 8Kx4mapsxparallax@4K will require nothing less than a Titan X. That's a fact, not an opinion. Now the problem is, how many actual 8K textures are there. There sure as hell aren't many, and it's pretty likely not even ENB can juggle the textures quick enough to avoid Skyrim barfing its guts everywhere except an indoor scene. There is no AMD answer for this in the current line up.

 

3. RAID has been categorically shown to provide no benefit to gaming applications. Putting ANY SSDs in any striped array is pretty amazingly dumb, unless you work for pixar or deamworks and have access to custom archival software.

 

I have a 40" 4096x2160 artist's reference monitor powered by two TXs, and frankly for this gen, anything else is breaking the law of diminishing returns and running into absurdity.

it doesn't matter what textures he is using if his gpu can handle the vram they need

and bigger textures for everything is stupid, this isn't need for a lot of things

 

 

that rock is huge, with a 2k texture, it's crappy

if you set the uv map scale to 2, it's the same as resizing the texture to 4k, without the fps cost

still not enought, scale 4 (the same as replacing the 2k with a 8k texture)

that can be done on a lot of things

well.. this isn't a seamless texture, but it's still better than what is was

 

can't do it on the rock with words, but on the rest, no problem

I have a R9 295x2, and I disabled driver crossfire for incompatibility with Skyrim.. (my game "flashing")

so, crossfire is bad to use with this game (also with enb).

in my opinion, is better have a single GPU card with massive VRAM (however, the maximum number of MB used is limited to the value of a single card)...

...a good SSD and a minimum quad core multithread CPU.

I've never seen 3 psu in 1 computer LOL

 

 

 

With 32GB RAM he could just put entire skyrim into a ramdisk and skip the ssds

He'll have to simulate the motherboard on 2 PSUs by connecting 2 pins and attaching some load to 5V.

PSU -> laptop <-> desktop video card <- PSU works just fine
