Kaos Wulf Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 It was already available during that whole paid mod debacle, so I'm resentful that it only just got released. But, I think it was just an Alpha at the time. Am I installing it? Already doing a complete reinstall on my new rig, so I might as well.
swmas Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 With the new menu maybe I'll actually start crafting in Skyrim.
Suludi Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'm going to wait until SKSE 1.7.3 is out of Beta state.
Setekh Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'm going to wait until SKSE 1.7.3 is out of Beta state. 1.7.3 is fully functional, there no reason not to use it, the beta tag doesn't mean anything with SKSE.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I am installing the new version with the latest SKSE beta since I just did a fresh install.
Guest Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'm going to wait until SKSE 1.7.3 is out of Beta state. I am using SKSE 1.7.3 from the very first day, and it is way more stable than any other previous versions. Because there are a couple of important new feature inside (and a big fix for the long arrays management), more and more mods are requiring it.

NNS10 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 With SkyUI 5.0, the armor slots mod is going to need an update. http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/1219-skyui-show-armor-slots/ With the new menu maybe I'll actually start crafting in Skyrim. From what I've seen and read, the new crafting menu is worse than the original. It ditches the material categories and just uses something like the inventory screen for crafting. Pretty terrible idea, as now the crafting recipes just get dumped into giant lists. Not being able to browse by material is a pretty big loss. To make it even harder to navigate, grayed out recipes (ones you're missing crafting materials for) are at the bottom of the list. So if you're browsing or searching for something, you'll have to jump around the list between the white and gray recipes, all while also sifting through items of other materials (since the removal of material category ends up combining everything into a giant list). Example screenshot from the mod page: http://static-3.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/3863-1-1436880173.jpg

One of the reasons having a bunch of outfit mods installed doesen't break the crafting menu's is precisely because of the material catagories, they are segmented off so it doesen't become this huge list of junk you get lost in (and even then, with some mods like the Tera armors and such, it's still a lot of crafting recipe's to sift through in each catagory, it can get confusing enough as is). Throwing it all togeather? Ouch.. that would look like less of a menu and more a traffic-jam Segmenting weapons and armours off from eachother is a good idea, it's further sorting, but getting rid of the material catagories.. not so keen on that idea..

The fact that they eliminated the material categories is a plus because you don't have to select each material to find what your newly installed armor mod is in and afterwards you have to remember it or do it again. All the advantages of the inventory screen applies here. Everything is very easy to find but if somehow you have problems, use the search function to instantly find it

Better is an opinion, it's not a fact. the new menus have their good parts and bad. there is a huge draw back to the new listing. say you just unlocked a new smithing perk that added new stuff. while normally you would just go open the new catagory to find those items, you now have to sort thru 2 list, and possibly guess what items they were. hopefully, they continue to work and refine the list and make it so it appeals to more people.

When someone says something on a post obviously they express their own opinion. Not everybody will like it no matter what. I mean there is SkyUI Away. It's pretty obvious what items you get to make after unlocking new perks. Even if it's not, is really easy to just browse the menu to see what you can make.

(like the armors from, DeserterX i think, that requires having a book to add the recipes to teh list)

Like it'll sort all the Ebony together and all the Iron.. etc..?? So it's then kind of functionally the same thing? Sure i suppose they are still all on "one page" instead of each material on it's own page.. but you can certainly /sort/ the list by Mat/Material.. or weapon type.. value.. etc? Along with sorting alphabetically? Plus.. at the very tippy top (above the icons) is a "search/filter" window where you can type in exactly what you're looking for. So... if you install a new mod that adds an armour called "Random Glowing Armour", you can just type the name of it there and immediately find it as well. ^.^ Dunno. i like it heaps better, but i suppose to each their own!

Like it'll sort all the Ebony together and all the Iron.. etc..?? So it's then kind of functionally the same thing? That's why I pointed out the White vs Gray ordering. Even if you "sort" by material, you still have to go up and down the list because the Grays are separated at the bottom. And when you have a crap ton of custom armor/weapon mods, that gets really annoying. Sure i suppose they are still all on "one page" instead of each material on it's own page.. but you can certainly /sort/ the list by Mat/Material.. or weapon type.. value.. etc? The way I play, I normally browse the armors since I may not have decided on what I want to craft yet. Again, way too many custom armor/weapon mods. Lots of choices. I just go through the lists to figure out what I want. If they added the ability to filter by material type, that would be perfect and make everyone happy.
Jeffrey Lane Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 If they added the ability to filter by material type, that would be perfect and make everyone happy. you can, its up at the top, click the Option icon and turn it on.
NNS10 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 If they added the ability to filter by material type, that would be perfect and make everyone happy. you can, its up at the top, click the Option icon and turn it on. That only allows adding the Material column and sorting by it. That's different from filtering on the Material column. The filter only works on the Name column.
yatol Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 We people that do more than clicking in video games think that the new interface is far superior. it's because i don't feel like wasting my time with crafting i didn't kept that "superior" interface my gear is done, now my forge it's just crafting some leather or ingots from time to time to get some potion of holdings from the astronach forge i spam click and let the recipes take care of the rest, the faster it's done the better now i use alchemy, but i just craft the potions sold by merchants with those ingredients autoharvest pick up for me the mod that replace alchemy by crafting new ingredients to craft new potions, well... that was still too much clicks for my taste (and it only reduce the mess alchemy do in your inventory, it don't fix it) and while i was at it, bye bye the click spamming on food, now i cook healing potion with food
Rayblue Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Personally I find the crafting menu here better than vanilla -- I just have to find what I need without having to preview the item (there were some mods that caused a CTD whenever I preview it).
