ukshadow Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 So yeah, there is a new game in the works that looks a lot like Skyrim in the way that it has a nordic/middle ages look to it. Just from the graphics alone it is more detailed than good ol' Skyrim, with the character models being more detailed. But it supposed to be "mature" themed. Really have to wonder what they mean by that. Thoughts? http://www.onlysp.com/world-exclusive-interview-soulkeeper-open-world-episodic-rpg/
Erundil Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Mature? We already kill and murder in Skyrim, so I guess "mature" would mean some nudity, probably sex. Either that or they gonna use some really twisted ideas for quests. Witcher trilogy is usually called "mature" and contains both of the above. Anyway this SoulKeeper thing doesn't really look all that amazing. It looks just as good as Skyrim with mods (HD textures, ENB, beautifiers...). Yes, it looks better than vanilla Skyrim, but it's a given since Skyrim is almost 4 years old.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 SkyIIrim But seriously, if this turns out to be a game you can heavily mod and say.... very stable, hardly broken, great storyline and interaction with the world, not to mention DRM-FREE!! I could totally see this game kissing Bethesda adios. I don't see how bethesda is going to continue to compete in the game industry with their clunky crapbyro engine. Putting a monetize system, breaking their game more than they actually fix it. And slapping a DRM stamp on it as if their games deserve that worthy to be exclusive through steam. They seem to think they are the only big fish in the pond. But somewhere out there there's always a bigger fish.
ratrace Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 But seriously, if this turns out to be a game you can heavily mod and say.... very stable, hardly broken, great storyline and interaction with the world, not to mention DRM-FREE!! I could totally see this game kissing Bethesda adios. I'm also waiting for a company that makes it impossible for Bethesda to continue their Gamebryo crap. Please, dear game developers, make your games open world and REALLY moddable. I'm not talking about new armors or maps, I'm talking about a game that lets you mod EVERYTHING in it, INCLUDING the player character. Leave it to the player whether he / she wants to play as a female or male, as a beautiful or ugly character, as a mage or warrior or thief or whatever inbetween. Or as something completely different. And for fucks sake, stop this "you're the hero to destroy ancient evil". Try to develop something more mature. Something that does not only appeal to players who want the world to evolve around them with themselves as the center of it. But I seriously doubt that this will happen any time soon.
Luminar Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 So you want an open world sims game? To be honest, a more highly modifiable Sims-esque game would be much more amenable to the type of mods hosted on loverslab than bethsoft's products. For instance, slavery mods in Skyrim run into problems in that they clash with the game design decisions Skyrim is built around. A Sims-esque game could provide a much more suitable environment for their mechanics, if it was sufficiently modifiable. As for the Soul Keeper, I'm really not feeling it. In the context of skyrim the art direction for the game feels completely uninspired. I can only hope their non-nordics are more colorful than what we're seeing in those images.
Suludi Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I think it looks nice but playing a prefabricated character is a huge turn-off for me. I want to create my own character with a name I choose.
Atreyu Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 And it does look like paying more for massive DLCs. Feels like Destiny would have more success.
dTd Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 This is why I could never get into The Witcher games. being forced to play Gerault <SP> left me bored after about an hour. I was like "I don't much like this guy, lets be someone else, oh you can't" so I uninstalled it.
Chaos63 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 It looks great. Skyrim is old and idiotically overplayed by now, a change would be most welcome.
Coopervane Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 This is why I could never get into The Witcher games. being forced to play Gerault <SP> left me bored after about an hour. I was like "I don't much like this guy, lets be someone else, oh you can't" so I uninstalled it. Same, except i didn't just get bored of Geralt, i quickly grew to hate him. His character just rubbed me the wrong way, and thus, the very idea of spending an entire RPG with him made me quit after an houer. Never touched any of the sequals either, they may be amazing games and all, but i'm just not interested if it means i gotta play them as Geralt. Why is it that so few RPG's actually are RPG's? It's right there in the title, RolePlaying-Game, that's supposed to be the point of it. When you give people an established char with an already decided personallity, class and look, and put them into a mostly linear storyline, then there's really no role-playing going on anymore. That's just an SP game with a progression system, not an RPG. This is why Bethesda is still around, and why people put up with them and their crappy Gamebryo engine and all the bugs. They are basically the only game in town if you want something that comes close to a real RPG in a 3d environment (else, the only other thing on offer is top-down isometric titles). I really can't think of any alternatives, all the rest will either stick you with a prefabbed char, or they will force you down an on-rails storyline, or both, none of them offer that freedom to play a char that you made, and as you want to play them, the way that Bethesda's games allow. TES and FO are far more about you making a char that you like, and then setting out into the big sandbox to forge your own adventure, and the game's plotline is just a distant goal for you to pursue later. I would love for there to be a viable competitor for Bethesda, it would mean that i got more games to play and that Bethesda might finally have to step up their game and provide us with something that isen't nearly broken. But sadly i've yet to see one, and Bethesda's titles are still the only game in town for this type of RPG.
dTd Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Bioware had it all with Neverwinter Nights One, local servers, persistant worlds, D&D rules, great online community, bets tool kit eva!! .... then they just dropped the whole thing and let Obsidian ruin it all with NWN2, and even worse ME series of crap hide and shoot gallery.

I was like "I don't much like this guy, lets be someone else, oh you can't" so I uninstalled it. tl;dr What are you talking about, the guy is practically a blank page complete with amnesia, learning new things about the world alongside the player. If there's any actual character going on, it's pretty much left to the player entirely to decide what it is through choices and dialogue. Also, comparing a game with a voiced character and a fixed story with a game that has a mute customizable PC and an entirely optional main quest is like comparing apples and watermellons.
...0... Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Looks like Skyrim vanilla just little better characters looking avarage. Bit dull colors and not much new. Do we need a game similar to Skyrim for myself NO. TW3 is very different from Skyrim also Open World but alot better story thats why i like it. All games trying to copy Skyrim prolly fail unless super easy and good to mod and much improved Nude models physics then it´s for PC maybe succes.

First up: Who's comparing? My whole post was specifically about how they are different. That was the entire point of it, so what are you banging on about? Saying "Coffee is different to Herbal-Tea" is a valid statement, because thay are infact different. Second up: No, Geralt is not a blank slate. He has an established gender, he has an established look and voice, an established class, and he has an established personallity. He's voiceacted and projects his character through every line of dialog and every cutscene, thus establishing his personallity, character traits and very identity. He may not have a memory of things or a backstory to drag around, but he's not a blank slate, he is an established character. You get some branching options that lets you influence his opinion of things around him, but you cannot change who or what he fundamentally is at his core, and was written to be. Geralt is always going to be Geralt. He may like faction XYZ in one game and hate them in another based on gameplay choices you made on that save, but he's still Geralt, and he allways will be. The fundamentals of his personallity do not change, only his opinions of events can.

Corpus Vile Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Afraid that "mature" implies that it will be just another bland, grey, politically correct western RPG with some "morally ambiguous choices" and similar stuff thrown in. I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man... in truth, I have no idea what to think of it. Perhaps it will be great. Oh, wait. [...] What episodes let us do is actually gather feedback from our players, who may decide how characters should live their lives, or die [...]Nevermind, I expect it will suck.
Chaos63 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 zip zap Everybody is comparing Bethesda and Projekt Red around here for some reason, seeing as you talked about both in a single post I figured you were too. If I'm wrong, don't take offense. It's just annoying seeing people who don't understand the difference between one rpg style from another, and still talk about it like their word is divine law.
trpd Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I personally feel no love for open world in my cRPG. Rather then creating world around the story the fit the story into the world, make me go thtough as many areas as they can. RPG for me is about story, people and places that i care for , seeing how my presence impacts them, changing their fate. I'm not interested in playing savior of all and doing quests just for reward is short of grind, and i despise grind in my cRPG. I never felt anything in Skyrim, i can make myself a whoever, do whatever - none f cares. There is none i care for, no ideals just a boring fight for power.I feel like nameless mercenary, henchmen and anything i do is a mare checkmark on a list. TW3 suffers from it too, bigger part of the story just focues on pushing me around through various areas. Most time i go to places because there is a question mark not because i feel it is important for me and my story. There is lots of saving the world too that i couldn't care less about. Luckly i have background,i know who i play, i already have people i care about. Also the expressions, voice acting and cutscenes do work greatly to intoduce me to new people and have me care about their story. But i often lack the ability to truly change the world, like i would like to be able to stop witchhunt in Novigrad and make it true free city , guess a lone blade can't do much about fanatism sorry for ranting
SquallPT Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I am starting to think that people don't like Witcher because you can't be a girl with a skimpy outfit. Oh Gamer you got it so right
bjornk Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Could TW3 fanboys stick to their circlejerk thread please?
Chaos63 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Could TW3 fanboys stick to their circlejerk thread please? Wasn't a "fanboy" that brought it up, pal. If it makes you uncomfortable getting your ass handed to you every time you spit on the series, maybe you should stop doing it. Yet another thread gets derailed over stupid shit.
bjornk Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 If you aren't a fanboy, you shouldn't get offended by my post. As I said, take your shit to your circlejerk thread. These fucking idiots don't want anyone to criticize their beloved game in their circlejerk thread, yet they pop up in every other game's thread to shit on it. Fuck your double standards.
Guest Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Very interested in open worlds, I clicked on the link, I've read few things and then I spotted the image on the background (between a paragraph and another) and I really thought "how they got my screenshots of few days ago, when I was fighting in Raven Rock?". Thank you for the link, it seems interesting ... unrelated note... bjornk, that elf is very nice, is it from skyrim?
trpd Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 A.J. that is BDO i belive. Anyway, Bjonk i don't recall anyone calling anyone names before your comment. Do you understand the differance between expressing opinions and spiting on others that like the game?
