bjornk Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Someone managed to squeeze a short history of the development of OpenGL and Direct3D in his post. Good read, if you have the time. http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/60544/why-do-game-developers-prefer-windows Sad part is, it made me feel old as remember all of them.

The funny thing is that it's actually WAAAAAY easier to program for OpenGL than it is for DirectCrap. It's more powerful, faster, and has far less overhead. The only reason DX is more popular is because it's Microsoft's child and they don't want any other graphics system taking root on their systems, so they push for developers to use DX instead. Good article and read though.
Vykroft Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Nice history lecture, thank for sharing it. When he mentioned GLQuake a little tear fell from my left eye...
Xpyke Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 This was a cool read, didn't know half of it, thanks for sharing.
pinky6225 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Interesting read, i had most of graphics mentioned in the post but at the time my understanding was more "ooh new shiny must be better" and i would have been at a age when parents picked up the bills
ZEROBR Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I liked, 3DFX Glide API, honestly never liked M$DX. I'm hoping those VULKAN be better in the future.
